Has this board really sunk that low? We're attributing an injury and two losses thusfar to a curse? The obvious response to this thread is "Well, duh" but a majority of people honestly believe in this.

We have the Super Bowl Losers Curse.......

Since 2000, people have honestly believed that there's been a Super Bowl's loser curse. A curse can't be a "curse" unless it's something that consistently happens every year.

The Seattle Seahawks lost the Super Bowl in 2005 and followed up the loss in 2006 with their third straight division title and a playoff win against the Dallas Cowboys.

Where was the curse? Did the curse take a year off, perhaps on vacation? I didn't realize curses could be inconsistent.

There are no such things as curses in sports. Unless the Red Sox and Rays have some magical voodoo powers.

Maybe not a curse. But 9 out of 10 years is a trend.

Well we lost the Super Bowl and have been cursed with a QB that has only thrown for 3 TDs in 5 games and is barely over 900 yards passing - so take it for what its worth

Curses? Voo-Doo? Everyone on here has gone wacko.

Has it occurred to anyone that this just might be an off season for us?

I know no one wants to think about it but it also seems to me that more than half the people on this site have given up on the Patriots Organization as a whole.

IMO, we need to stand behind our team no matter what. Does anyone feel that way any more?

I can think of several teams that have lost a Super Bowl and then came back to win the following year. You would have thought that people today are a bit more enlightened than to believe that events happen due to curses, karma, and lucky t-shirts, but apparently that is not so.

well said, curses suck.

If Hasselbach and his center doesn't have a sloppy exchange from center in the NFCDG against the Bears, they would have drove for the winning FG, would have played New Orleans in the NFCCG, and probably would have advanced to their second straight SB.

As for Super Bowl "curses"? I agree it's a myth...

1) What hurt the Bears last year was Grossman getting another 9th life. Look at them this year-they finally solved their QB problems(Orton is playing well).

2) In '01, 9/11 all but put a dent in the Giants season-otherwise, they had a very good team.

3) Those '02 Raiders haven't done squat since they went to that Super Bowl, largely b/c of Al Davis.

4) The Panthers lost their entire OL in '04 to FA, but they were a win away from going back to the playoffs at the end. If they had made it, who knows? The NFC favorite Eagles were without Owens, and they would have matched up well with them.

5) And less not forget the '00 Titans were the best team in football until they went 1 and done in the playoffs, largely b/c of their kicker.

Pt being that curses and bad coaching/FO moves/catastrophic events are not correlated at all.

What about lucky pants?

I didn't see any red one's on the outside of Brady's game pants when he got hit.

It's not a curse. It is a small sample.

Stop double-cursing us! Quick, someone run over a black cat.

Agreed. It's a trend, yes, but a "curse"? I think it has more to do with free agency and the overall parity in the league these daze. This only started happening in the last 8-9 years. The worst was in 1999, when both SB teams were decimated by injuries and got nowhere near the playoffs.

Also don't forget that one of THE most important players on this squad was lost for the season in Week 1. It's not like the Pats are at full strength here.

While there is no curse. There are multiple factors that makes repeating quite difficult and doing well following a SB lose. Some that are not very applicable to the Patriots some that are very much so.

1) Shorter off-season means players have less time to heal. Result in more starting the season on PUP or having an injury that is not fully healed that gets re-injured in the season and/or missing much of training camp.

2) Shorter off-season means less time to prepare for the draft. Could result in not choosing the best player or choosing players in positions you don't have as pressing of a need and missing filling an important hole.

3) You draft late. Number 31 or 32.

4) Higher demand for you FA by other teams, means losing them or needing to spend more cap space.

5) Teams will often mortgage future for the SB run year. E.g. using a the 2nd 4th & 7th round draft picks to get two vet WRs. Resulting in less young quality players in the following year.

6) SB loser often will be less motivated during the off-season. And distracted with other things such as phantom Rams walk-thru tapes. Preventing the coaching staff to be as focused as need be leading up to the draft and training camp. Particularly true if the loser was a heavy favorite. This can also affect how players spend their off-season, in the gym or with their girlfriend.

7) Assistant coaches often get job offers to go else where.

8) Other teams spend there off season focusing on how to beat you. You are the game circled on everybodys calendar and the one studied most in off-season film study.

It is not a curse but there are real reasons for the trend.

Your being waaay to ANALytical here. There is one easy explaination for the poor performance the year following a SB loss. The losing players are just so upset on not realizing their LIFELONG dream ......of being in the Disneyworld parade!

Just wondering... but why did you decide to bump this?

Why the hell bump this?..at least I bumped a relative issue

Well, since this was bumped (I guess just so the word anal could be bolded?)...

Cardinals won their second straight division title and then a playoff game, they weren't cursed.

Ok - my bad (although it was somehow already bumped). I was up on page 1 perusing for topics of interest and I thought of a quick retort for a cheap laugh. We can all go back now instead to the same 30 threads about how sucky our OC is. :D
