My theory on negative posters is that they're like mushrooms, feed 'em $h1t keep them in the dark.

You want a smoke? You don't smoke, do ya? What are you? One of those fitness freaks? Go **** yourself.

i think that poll needs to be put up after FA and the draft.

but if i had to guess i say they would be better.

Kontra must be deep into a 3 day bender because that was a mush of drivel.

As far as your opinions......
You are entitled to them as am I.

Time will tell whether the Koolaid Drinkers or the Others will be right.
I for one hope that I'm dead wrong.
But what I saw as far as talent and coaching this year dipicts a serious downward trend.

IMHO

Maybe it would have done you some good to have some *questions* from time to time, you know? "Am I an assh0le? Are my posts a mess? Is my wife a money-grubbing whore?" I mean, those are questions, right? "Have I ever been good to my fellow Pats fans or am I just now pretending to be?

Jesus wept
It was a twilight zone moment
Thought for a minute it was the 4th quarter of the Ravens game again

Whoa, whoa, whoa. Let's say you have no idea and leave it at that, okay? No idea. Zip. None. If you had an idea of what we do, we would not be good at what we do, now would we? We would be maverick4. Are you calling me maverick4?

Hahaaaa! Well played, sir. :lol2:

I think we need to beef up the coaching staff and the player personnel staff, have a killer draft, and then pick up a key free agent or two a la Rodney or Corey. Then we'll talk.

Meanwhile, I can't believe I am about to say this, but the Jets might be the division winner next year and be tough to beat for the next few years. Look what they're doing in the playoffs with a rookie QB. Sanchez will certainly improve (he already has) and they have a great D and very good running game. Either they or the Colts will be in the Super Bowl - nightmare scenario. Go Saints - they're the only team left standing that I would not hate to see win it.

We have coaches to hire, an entire FA period and the draft. How could anyone possibly make an educated guess at this point?

Agreed. There's way too much work to be done before you can see what direction this team is heading. Dead wood needs to get cut new coaches need to be hired, and new players need to be acquired. Plus the Pats need to retain their own key free agents.

I want to see Bodden, Wilfork, and Mankins resigned/extended.

Is Gostkowski an RFA or UDFA? I'd like to resign him long term while we still can. If Gostkowski hits a few game winning FGs in the playoffs his asking price would jump up. He hasn't really done that yet which means we can probably get him for reasonable money.

Pretty hard to say at this point. Kinda depends on how they do in the draft, free agency, coaching replacements, etc. etc.

Looking ahead to the projected schedule for next year...... .500 would be respectable

The Pats could go 9-7 and win the AFC East next year or go 11-5 and have repeat of 2008. Alot of how the Pats do next year willd depend on what the Jets and Dolphins do. The AFC East is gonna be a battle for the next few years alot due to the fact that the Jets/Dolphins have closed the gap on the Pats from what it was during the 2003 to 2007.

Plus all the teams in the AFC East have to play the NFC North and AFC North next season which has 5 of those 8 teams with winning records and the Pats have to play [SD/IND], where as the Jets have[Den/Hou] and Mia has [Oak/Ten] next season.

It's January 22nd, there's absolutely no way to answer this question right now.

Looking ahead to the projected schedule for next year

Things change pretty quickly...

Patriots 2009 SOS (pre-season) .590
Patriots 2009 SOS (post-season) .422

As a fan you have to be optimistic before the season starts. If you start out the season thinking your team is going to suck why even follow them?

I think we will be better because we should be getting better at every position. The positions we need new players in will be improved by free agency and the draft, young players will get better and the good players will play at a similar level. So we have to be better.

That being said if we can't sign Wilfork to an extension then we will be worse, a lot worse.

Barring injuries, there is little doubt that the Pats will be better than the 2009 season. They have tons of money to spend and tons of high draft picks. How much better and what their record will be is up in the air though.

Even though the Jets will be handicapped in free agency and do not
have very many draft picks, they will improve their team at the wide
receiver position.

If the Patriots do not re-sign most of their key free agents, sign
the free agent or two you mention above, and use all their draft
picks wisely, they will fall way behind the Jets.

I don't think the Patriots will do much about the coaching staff.
To them cheaper and smaller are better. I can see them operating
with nobody with the title of defensive coordinator. This way
Patricia or Pepper Johnson could call the plays but not get
coordinator's salary.

Same with the front office. I wonder if they are the only team
in the NFL that use the person in charge of setting up the
draft board to help out the offensive coaching staff.

I just noticed the bottom of your post. Maybe the Patriot's could

use half a dozen or so cavemen to toughen up their defense.
