Syracuse:
Sources tell us that Head Coach Doug Marrone has narrowed his finalist for his new Offensive Coordinator to: New Orleans Saints Quarterbacks coach
Joe Lombardi, New England Patriots Quarterbacks coach Bill O’Brien, Pittsburgh Running Backs coach David Walker and Connecticut Running Backs
coach Terry Richardson. Orange coach Doug Marrone fired offensive coordinator Rob Spence after last season.

Interesting. I still don't know what to make of O'Brien as an OC, but the guy was in the college game for 12 years before coming here. If the story is true, maybe its a quality of life change that he may be looking to make. Who knows. Seems like going from a pro OC gig to a college OC gig is a step down. No?

Obrien is our QB coach and acting OC, much as josh was in 2005 when charlie left.

Perhaps Belichick should name Casserio OC making Obrein's situation clear to one and all.

Agreed. FWIW the Pats "officially" named JMcD their OC on Jan 20th, 2006. If history is a guide BB should be in the middle of or at the end of the process in coming to some kind of conclusion regarding the guy's future.

Patriots name Josh McDaniels offensive coordinator

Any chance BB could reach out to Brian Billick to be our new OC??????

That would be great. A guy with 1 year as a coaching assistant in 2002 and 1 year as a position coach in 2007 who apparently wasted 7 years in personnel understudying Pioli...

BB will almost definitly promote from within. Besides Caserio, who are candidates?

I'll just listen. I haven't been right about coaches since Charlie and Romeo left.

If memory serves, Reiss was pretty accurate with the McDaniels, Mangini and subsequent Pees bumps.

I think he is touting Patricia as the "DC In Waiting" and assumes that O'Brien is here to stay.

I'll chip in for his ticket. Actually, I'm fine keeping him as QB coach, but not having any OC responsibilities.

Tom Brady indicated that his accuracy was off earlier this season because his throwing mechanics were not right. I think Tom's accuracy remained off throughout the season. Assuming it is just the mechanics, I would have thought good QB's coach would have fixed this problem.

Tom's got a well established relationship with a throwing mechanics coach out in California. It wouldn't surprise me at all if Tom rarely talks to Patriots QB coaches about mechanics.

I thought Brady's accuracy got better as the year went on. And even if not, his mechanics were likely WAY off due to subconscious compensations made for his rebuilt knee. Not always something that a QB coach can fix easily.

Oh sweet Jeezus, let him go.....pick O'Brien....PLEASE!

" Terminate with extreme prejudice"

Even though I wasn't a big fan of O'Brien's play calling last season, I hope he isn't leaving. I think an offseason of work put in under Belichick will do him justice. He reminds me much of McKid in 2005, though McDaniels obviously didn't call the same draw play to Faulk 25 times a game. Bottom line, if O'Brien leaves then we're likely looking at the same struggles in the playcalling department next year as his replacement will most likely be a rookie as well.

Word is the chemistry with O'brien and Brady is not the best

.. for that reason alone perhaps it's best he moves on.

Also ... I think O'Shea should get the gig ... he has lots of potential.
