What is ridiculous is that a comment such as 'Curran is hearing' what the organization plans to do is taken seriously.
There is absolutely no way that anyone in the organization would be sharing inside plans with Curran or anyone who he could hear it from.
For years, fans have taken this supposed 'inside info' from Foxborough serioulsy and it has always turned out to be speculation.
Curran is probably 'hearing' it from his reporter buddies who are speculating what they think will happen, with no basis.

This information could be right or wrong as it is just an uninformed guess, but the fact that Curran spewed it makes it no more likely to happen.

They are well below the projected cap (assuming there might be one) and their actual payroll is way lower than it has been in years. I actually expect the opposite and the Pats to be agressive since there will be few teams that will be agressive.

Although few, if any, media people have any insight to what the Pats will do. I tend to agree with Mike Lombardi that since the Pats have one of the lowest actual payrolls in the league that they will be one of the players in free agency.

Seriously, Tom Curran is showing why he is a sports writer with the Patriot Place argument. It doesn't make sense. Ordway and DeOssie (both actual business owners) on The Big Show has already blown the Patriots Place argument out of the water. I am surprised Curran is still running with it.

Maybe he got the info from one of Brady's doctors or the hospital where he had the surgery. Or better yet, maybe it was the sales clerk at Aeropostale (I hear she is, "wicked shahp.").

I do not believe there has been even a single personnel decision since 2000 made for sentimental reasons.

I do believe that many owners will spend less in 2010. There is no salary minimum. Uncertainly about 2011 will reduce the number of long-term contracts. They will not pay for many benefits to current players such as pension and 401K's.

That being said, Kraft is in better shaps than most. First, TV money will still be paid. Kraft has many sources of income other than direct monies from the team. He also will not have to pay revenue sharing monies to other teams.

Curran is just speculating. Why shouldn't he do so? There isn't much else to do with reagrd to the patriots at the moment.

In the end, the question may be whether to pay Moss $6M or pay another receiver $6M as part of a deal that is part of a longer term deal, with contingencies for a 2011 lockout or strike.

For me, the question is whether Moss is part of the 2011-2014 patriots.

Your reasoning is laughable.

LeKevin Smith was the 206th player picked. He played in 08, had 13 tackles and 9 QB pressures

It's not like BB was waiting for a #1 pick with a big salary to finally break through and produce.

Brown maybe. But BB had him inactive for most of 07. Not like he ran him out there instead of Welker and Gaffney.

The number of players re-signed is a function of both the players and the front office.

We will see who is right in the month after March 4th, when we see how much the patriots are willing to spend in free agency.

For example, if Bodden is re-signed for $7M a year, we find out that the patriots and Bodden find this acceptable. If on March 7th, we sign someone else instead of the same contract, then we find out that the patriots are willing to spend monies in free agency. It is only if the patriots sign O'Neal and Webster type replacements fro Bodden do we know that the patriots are not willing to spend (at least on the corner position).

We will find out in a couple of months whether Tom Curran or Mike

After the 03 season there was some scuttle of the Pats unloading Law b/c he was squawking and using that cap room to swap him and get Bailey. No idea if BB and at the time, Joe Gibbs talked. Obviously Gibbs dealt him to Denver instead.

Moss reminds me a lot of the Dillon situation. We extended him on the heels of a SB season for the ages. Then he was done. Bill and much of the fanbase wasn't sure at first he might not yet rebound from injury, but Maroney was signed in year two of his extension because he didn't. After another season where he functioned again at a very different level than in his first SB season, they cut him even though it meant taking a nearly $6M cap hit spread over 2007-08. They then went in another whole direction trading for Welker, signing Stallworth and on draft day trading for Moss. Dillon was gone before they knew they could land Moss. They apparently felt that Welker, Caldwell and Stallworth was going to be a sufficient approach with Morris and Maroney hopefully back at full health. We will never know if that would have worked since Moss essentially replaced Caldwell and Gaffney essentially replaced Stallworth mid season. 2008 results were skewed because Brady went down. 2009 results were mixed at best but also skewed slightly since Welker missed 2 games early and was lost in week 17, Gaffney wasn't retained and 2 potential veteran replacements washed out and that left an offense trying to operate with 1 deep threat shut down by double coverage or tough defenses, 2 conversion from QB projects, and 2 career ST'ers. Since you can't predict injuries or performance as players age or rehab from injury, I think they need to spread the risk by locating, signing, developing 2-3 viable options to complement Edleman, possibly Tate and hopefully Welker. They need to upgrade the OL but also adapt the passing game to one it can block for consistently.

But it was extend. Not gonna happen. Not sure he will be back, although if Bill hasn't figured it out yet that's on him...the ROI just isn't there when the HC and QB and other team leaders including two guys who would have been better suited to the second captaincy on the team have to expend extra energy and effort and focus on keeping him involved and engaged... This OL can't front what everyone here wants this offense to be simply by adding another deep threat unless at minimum that other deep threat is seriously competitive with Moss for attempts and he consistently catches more than 59% of the throws he's targeted for and that guy will want the same comp and consideration as Moss and that ain't gonna fly...

Dillon took his coin after the 2004 season...He put up Moss like #'s as a RB that season. Then it was gone... He was decent thereafter, ditto Moss although his dropoff is certainly related to but also perhaps overly credited to Cassel. This year was a little better, but it wasn't nearly enough - and that was with Brady. Some here would prefer to overly credit that to Brady this season. I just don't see it that way...based on years of watching Brady deal with all manner of obstacles.
