Re: ARTICLE: The demise of the Patriots and the NBA's San Antonio Spurs twin dynastie

Look, if people really think this team is done and it's over, no more titles, why watch? do you want to keep crying or what? That was last week, I'm sick of this "dynasty over" talk. I've said it too many times, I'll say it here. The Patriots will never be an after thought with BB and #12 here, they will always, someway, be in the mix. That means every offseason, they're a few additions away from being great again. We saw an average Pats team that LIMPED to the AFC title game, come back the next year and while walking, annihilating opponents in their way.

I'm not expecting us to win it all every year but next year will probably be uncapped. That means this team has no excuse, with the age of Brady (soon to be 33) to go all out. They are a few additions away from being absolutely scary again. I refuse to say their runs are over until their nucleus walks away, I think you would be a fool to say otherwise.

Jesus..if 10-6, division winner, and a playoff birth is a demise I wonder what the rest of the fans of the other 24 non-playoff teams are thinking.

I used to watch when we had no shot at a title and I'll more than likely continue to watch even if the Pats once again have no shot.

Lol, I didn't mean to come across like that. It's almost annoying, as if people are just in awe of the media's new Patriot slogan "the Death of a Dyasty" Every day now for the rest of the off season we'll hear this writer, now that writer's input on why they think the Patriots suck these days. It's almost like..If you're that miserable why watch football? I'm just going to enjoy the last few years we get of Brady, and whenever BB goes. I think wasting our time being doomsayers while BB and Brady are here is something we'll look back on when WE'RE hiring the likes of Chain Gailey and laugh at ourselves.

Several Patriots media personalities like Reiss have stated that its clear that the Patriots will NOT go nutso in the FA market,Not to mention that a good portion of the better players will not be available due to RFA under 6 year situations.

Reiss has said its more than likely the team is to dwell on keeping thier money players under long time contracts like Brady,Wilfork,Mankins,Gostkowski,Faulk ect: and Reiss has said that as long as these guys are locked up and the Pats go with a good amount of picks in the draft its a good offseason.

If you expect this team to pick up players like Kampman,Peppers and all kinds of 'FA goodies' out there you will probably be wrong.

I myself expect the team to look at FA as they always have by picking up some veteran players who may still have value such as a Jason Taylor or Deion Branch who will help but not cost a fortune to sign - I am hoping we do not go nuts and overboard for the senior citizen players again though.

Demise is a strong word. Both teams have legitimate shots at titles if they make a move or two.

Spurs added Jefferson in the offseason. Duncan is still a top 10 player in the league. Their depth is decent. They do need another big man and some D on the perimeter though. They always play well at the end of the year.

Pats certainly need to add some attitude and some impact players, but if they do they are again a SB contender.

The Pats have an attitude but just not a winning one.

The Spurs have just won 10 of thier last 12 so maybe the Pats can win 10 of 12 to start the 2010 campaign...we can only hope :)

Geesh

A few mega problems:

Youth on defense means rebuilding. By definition you can't rebuild without any bumps.

ACL's are two year projects.

After the Jax win, "punditry" deemed the Pats as legit threats. Ya might want to realize how vital Welker was to the offense. That's where the "demise" went.

If you want to look for demise, look at how old the Steeler defense has become.

We had a swagger on defense but lost it after the Saints game. That was a humbling experience for the young D corp. I think we'll be fine- this coming fall we have a squad that's more mentally tough than this year's as a result of three tough games, the Indy, Saints, and then the Ravens playoff game.

I feel like we lost it a bit after the Indy game. And no, not because they were insulted by BB, but you can't finish off a game seemingly unable to make a single big play and come out of it feeling great, I don't care who you played.

That's the biggest byproduct of youth in sports. It's not about overall results, as young players are generally just as good and often more athletic than their veteran counterparts. The problem with youth is that when things start to go south, it is 100% new territory. A few special minds will play better through adversity, but I bet most young players take a while to bounce back from something like that.

Hopefully, this whole team will be mentally tougher next year, whether through leadership additions or just mroe experience in general.

A few smart moves in the offseason and this team is kicking ass again. A few dumb moves in the offseason and the window comes closer to closing. It all depends on what happens in both free agency and on draft day.

Don't shoot the messenger,I didn't write them

Look at your thread starting history, you seem to only care about the negative doomsday articles.

Find me a positive article he can link to. Right or wrong, the media is saturated by these articles. Everyone is jumping on the "Pats are done" bandwagon.

Well, to be fair there are actually a good number of those as well. However, I get the jist of what you're saying.

The more I think about it, this is the most important draft in the BB era. They get 2-4 impact starters on either side of the ball and augment that w/ a couple FAs that work out, they are back.

I thought that they can maybe go the single/double route in the draft as they had been and get a 3-4 FAs but they really need the kids who are fast, tough smart and will grow up with the organization's philosophy branded into their DNA.
