Pees had one idea with regard to how to put pressure on the quarterback and the offense. Thomas took a different view and has been a vocal PITA and generally opposed his bosses because he was frustrated.

As a great writer once sang: Whose side are you on?

I'm not sure what each side thought about the pass rush. I know Adalius thought he should be used as a rush linebacker for most of his patriots career but was moved inside due to need. I think he would have made a great pass rusher if that's what he was able to do. At this point though I feel that he has lost a step and is less effective getting to the qb.

If you could elaborate on the two positions that would help me out.

AD needs to rush. Still. I hope we keep him since Pees is gone.

I'm on Belichick's side. He knows what is best.

That being said, Adalius looked good when he bullrushed, but too often he lacked the physical ability to get around the tackles, so this is an impossible question. I'm convinced that the Patriots would have been even weaker on defense had Adalius been let loose to pass rush, and that's because I don't think Adalius has the ability to put pressure on the QB consistently.

Thomas was brought in as a $5M+ a year premier passrusher. He was injured. He was asked to play inside and he did so, and did fine, given that he was playing out of position.

This pass year, the great idea was to use Thomas to set the edge, not to use Woods much, and to rely on Burgess and Banta-Cain for our passrush.

Thomas thought that he should be the #1 passrusher as he was being paid to do. He did well when called upon to pass the pressure, as another poster has documented.

Who said he was brought in to be a pass rusher? He was brought in because he has the talent and ability to do many things well.

Again, he's being paid to play LB for the Patriots and "do his job". He's not being paid to be strictly a pass rusher. There's more to playing OLB than pass rush. This defense has and will always be based on stopping the run first and foremost.

I never saw him rush the passer in anything other than bullrush. He has no moves really. For a high priced LB, that's a glaring weakness.

I think Pees didn't rush him because he knows he's not good.

He would have been good at ILB but for whatever reason didn't do that either.

Good riddance.

If we had ADT on our roster when we had no pass rush and he's sooo capable of it, I guess BB is an idiot than for not using him?

I'm not buying it, Thomas is another Raven that just didn't work out for us.

AD said Pees was the bright spot in his otherwise disappointing season. Where do we get from that Pees misuse of a player Bill signed in FA to do a variety of things and be an impact player...? I must have missed Pees and Thomas expressing their views on the passrush.

This thread came out of left field, the entire premise is news to me.

The whole drama with Adalius probably started (for you haters out there, this means I don't know!!) when Belichick benched Adalius for his half-hearted effort earlier in the season.

I don't blame Belichick since I think Adalius did not exert maximum effort when he played. He did dog it quite a bit. I can't remember which game, but one RB made a total fool of Adalius on one play, literally made Adalius look like he was a half-whit. Adalius came roaring back on the next play and was quite beastly as he sacked the QB. It shouldn't be too hard to remember this sequence since Adalius had so few sacks, and this was one of them. That sequence basically showed you everything you needed to know about him. He was good when he put out the effort.

Yeah, I heard Adalius Thomas complain about a lot of things, but not that Pees was using him incorrectly.

Once again we get a thread to bloviate about something we don't have enough information to evaluate. Nothing but nothing gets done on this team without going through Bill. In the game plan, meetings all week developing / working / and practicing the plan and game day itself. Any discussion otherwise is wild speculation ... especially trying to say Pees vs Thomas - that's just inane.

Me too...but I hope the OP is a nod to Billy Bragg. That would make me happy.

We ***** about Moss non stop when he doesn't show up for a game. If we held Adalius to those actual ALL PRO standards (like ya know, hes being paid to do) he'd be run out of here after last season.

Again,

ADT hopefully you leave this team asap. We need to get motors that never stop, not motors that turn on when they want. That completely goes against everything Bill built here previously.

It is news to you that Thomas thinks he's been misused? It's news to you that Thomas was brought in to be a passrusher? And who might be misusing Thomas other than the DC?

Can you get me the press release where BB states his intentions for Adalius when he signed him?

Just use google and find lots of articles about Thomas.

If you want only BVelichick's official staements, I suggest going only to patriots.com.

I can't find anything about BB telling us why he signed Adalius Thomas...

Same here.

In regards to AD, I wouldn't shed a tear over seeing him leave. He did rush the passer on quite a few occasions this season and got stoned. The guy finished the season with a shade over 30 tackles and 3 sacks. Sorry, that's not cutting it. Especially given what he's getting paid.
