OT: Jets fan arrested @ San Diego, NY fans outraged

YouTube: Jets Fans arrested at Chargers

The video cuts between the chanting and the arrest, so not sure what happened in between.

However, Jets fans are saying (as well as some guy in the crowd) he didn't do anything and was arrested for chanting.

Thoughts about this?

i don't think they should have arrested. them but it's all so not a good thing to go to the other teams house and push in there face cause your team won. when there are all redy 40,000 drunk. fans that are pissed off as it is cause there team lost i think that cop saved him from realy geting hurt.

I'm the one that posted the video and this is what down. This guy was chanting Jets for about 10 minutes straight. This is the first part of the video Obnoxious yes, but definately not breaking the law. Then this lady in a wheelchair says for him to come down to her and smacks him in the face and tells him to shut the f*** up. I didn't get this on tape (wish i did cause it was funny). He walked back up to his wife/gf. Apparently survellance called the cops to the area. When they walked up I believe she pointed her finger at him. They just knew there was some disturbance and they were checking in on it. The cops walked over to him and he was still chanting Jets. It didn't seem like they were into fact finding. The next thing you know he gets pulled which is the second part of the video. I thought it was messed up and over the line.

An obviously drunk obnoxious jets fan. While i don't think he did anything criminaly wrong, he shouldn't have been arrested, but since hes a jets fan.....have a nice day. Just listening to jets jets jets is to much.

Odd video. There is missing part. But the point is if the cops or staff come to you - follow directions.

The "Attica, Attica" chant was pretty good.

You see a SD person give info to the girlfriend as she leaves. I assume to back up their story. But again, even if you didn't do anything, don't get carried out.

Got to hand it to the Chargers fans sticking up for him like that.

Something like this happened to me at Buffalo-Patriots game, when some jagoff Bills fan was in my face for 3 quarters, and when he finally laid a hand on me, I sent him flying few rows. The cops showed up to throw me out, but all the Bills fans behind me stuck up for me, and the stadium police let me go.

It was mid 3rd quarter and the Jets were behind.

I don't disagree with you that he should have STFU anyway.

my initial reaction was that's bs, but seeing a jet fan getting arrested makes me feel as if the world is back on it's axis after that debacle in foxboro.

If law enforcement approaches you and you are drunk and you don't comply with what they want, they take you down. They figure they have enough just by you being drunk in public. If you are drunk and you fully cooperate with law enforcement's requests, chances are nothing happens. He didn't and we saw the result.

I've been to games in both San Diego and the Meadowlands and can tell you firsthand that Jets and Chargers fans are the two worst fan bases I've experienced. Putting them together is a bad combination. But when I was at Qualcomm for the Pats game in 2008, I was shocked at the lack of security amidst all the fighting going on. This seems like overkill. What I want to know is whether security visited this guy and asked him to tone it down BEFORE the cops intervened.

So, how do you jump to a conclusion like, he was drunk??!!!

It doesn't really matter.

The cop's job is NOT to take their cue from security.

Cops have a job to do. They aren't their to be enforcers for untrained security people. If a security guy says to a cop, "We have a problem in the 8th row," the cop's job is not to say, "I'll take care of it," it's to ask, "What's the problem?"

Now, security may have every right to ask a fan to leave the stadium, but that's a private matter. Cops are not enforcers, or at least they are not supposed to be enforcers.

here is how I would have handled this particular situation...

Let the cops hancuff me but before I leave locate a couple of even keel fans as witnesses to back up my story and what I was doing.

Let me tell my story and have the witnesses back me up and explain the full details of the story.

I have no problem cheering for your team, that is not a crime as far as I know. But when you do it to a provoking level, and someone gets provoked, then a situation is going to follow so don't be surprised and all innocent if something happens. This is just common sense.

The dude that gets all defiant after the Jets fan left is another tool. Just explain the situation to him outside the environment of the arrest, like in another part of the stadium. Instead he gets all "you can't arest an innocent man".

Go tell the cop what happened, you have people to back it up, the cop says feel free to cheer your team, not to provoke people by turning around and being kind of an idiot about it. There is a common sense line that is different for different people.

Why people let things get all out of whack is beyond me....

So, how do you jump to a conclusion like, he was drunk??!!!

All signs point to that. The foolish "Jets Jets Jets" chanting in an opposing stadium. But more so being extremely non-compliant when several police/security approached him. Did you see how much he was struggling with the police? He was so non-compliant they had to literally carry him out. Who starts resisting to that level when they are approached by law enforcement other than someone who is under the influence? If you are sober you have to know you can't win that battle. It's irrational to resist under those circumstances. Irrational behavior usually means someone is under the influence. A sober person might resist verbally, its the drunk person gets into a physical struggle with police.

Also the video was not complete. There was a segment missing. There's more to this story than what was seen on the video.
