I was reading the Colts board( yes) to see what they were saying about their game this week and read this..

If we lose this Sunday to the Jest where does this loss rank...

They were mentioning SB3 which was
NEW YORK JETS AND BALTIMORE COLTS......there was no team from Indianapolis playing that day or year.


Where the heck does Indy fit in on this? Are you telling me people in Indy were all Colts fans back then!

Well they stole their name, uniforms, and records from Baltimore so of course they are going claim all of their history. It's funny too, because after the Hall of Fame refused to label Johnny Unitas as a member of the "Baltimore Colts" he took all of his stuff and gave it to the City of Baltimore. That guy was a class act till the end. What happen to Baltimore should never happen to such a passionate fan base again. I fear for Bills fans.

So the people of Indy were rooting for the Colts in SB3 because they knew that in 13 years they would leave Baltimore and move to Indy?

There aren't any Colts fans living in Baltimore. They are Ravens fans, AND, they hate the Colts more than any other team, including the Steelers. If there are any Baltimorons on the Indy Colts site, its to talk trash, not to talk up the Colts.

But the poster's point is valid.

For those of us who remember it, the Jets victory over the Colts in that SB was shocking. I watched the game with friends in a living room in the NY suburbs and if you think there was surprise and elation in Boston when Adam's kick sailed through the uprights in the Superdome in 2002, it didn't compare to the reaction to that win!

It is also true that the Colts Franchise that plays in Indy is the same franchise that played in Miami in SB III. The horseshoe Logo is stylized now but remains almost the same and the blue is similar to the trademark color of the Baltimore team, but a few shades lighter.

So, I guess what this thread is saying is that there are Colts' fans with long memories who would liken a Jets victory over the Colts this Sunday to that victory long ago. It's a fair point, if overstated IMHO.

The one poster (here) was probably correct...the poster on the Colts site is probably a long time Colt fan that perhaps still resides in Baltimore. They might have a closer connection to the Jets loss than to say, the Pittsburgh loss. The JETS is the connecting factor here.

No., No, Indy did not steal anything from Baltimore. not the name, uniforms or records. These thing belonged to the owner (a private citizen). And that citizen moved to another city and took what was rightfully his with him. So if I move west and take my computer, I am stealing it? Logic????

I certainly won't tell you that Indy fans were Colts fans in 1969.
But uniforms look identical to me.
Peyton Manning is taller than Earl Morrall, but he still has the blue horseshoe on his white helmet.
But the bottom line is that the Colts were 6 touchdown favorites in Super Bowl 3, and the Jets aren't 6 touchdown underdogs on Sunday.
