Good things that happen if the Jets beat the Colts

C'mon Man! Stop hating! You forgot one scenario that is highly likely. The Colts blowout the Jets in the Stadium, then beat the winner of the Saints/Vikes, (which will probably be the Saints) and get applauded for winning the Super Bowl, and beating the teams that beat the Patriots. (Ravens- post season, Saints, Jets- regular season) I like that scenario the best of all. It is not the Colts fault that the Patriots, Pittsburgh, and the Chargers did not show up this year in the post season. I think that the Colts are a longshot to win against the NFC anyway this year but if they pull it out they will deserve it.

Great point. For the players they have to re-sign after 2010, Mangold is up and Revis can void his contract after next year as well (which he is almost certain to do). Can you imagine the contract that Revis is going to ask for? It will make the $29M guaranteed to Asomugha look like chump change.

Plus, they have to start planning financially to build their defense around Gholston. :p

Here is how this is going to play out:

1) Jets lose to the Colts with Revis getting called for pass interference 7 times. Tubby declares the Jets the Super Bowl favorites for next year and makes disappointment in 2010 almost a certainty.

2) Vikings lose to the Saints with Favre throwing a killer interception late...which Favre doesn't see because he has his "pants on the ground" after getting whacked. Favre cries a little in the post-game presser and starts the "return or retire" clock running. Reggie Bush (the only jerk-wad on the Saints) tears his achilles, ACL, MCL and larynx on the same play and is unable to participate in or talk about the Super Bowl.

3) The Colts lose to the Saints in a blowout and we all get to see the apex Manning face against a backdrop of fireworks and confetti.

So to sum up...The city of New Orleans gets a needed boost, Goober gets a gut punch, Favre teases another city but inevitably tears out their heart yet again, and the Jets set themselves up for a biblical letdown in 2010. Sounds about right to me.

That's be a pretty acceptable way of it all unfolding. But I'm not sure I want to see the Colts put a second AFC championship onto their resume. While, as fans, losing a Super Bowl is unbearable and heart-breaking, winning your conference is still a huge achievement.

Given the vengeful pleasure I sometimes allow myself, seeing the losing team practically shoved off the field, it would be so sweet combined with a Manning Face that I think my head might explode into footballs and candy :D

The only silver lining I see would be the Jets absolutely waxing the dolt's in their own house, after only making the playoffs because polian & Co. couldn't deal with the 19-0 attempt. That being said, with the way this post-season has gone as far as what I would like to see... Colts manhandle the Green Gluttons and play the Vikes in the Superbowl. That would be worst case scenario as far as I'm concerned, so that is what I expect from this post-season.

Not true at all

# The first four years are worth a total of $16 million.
# The deal voids after four years if Revis hits 35% playing time in the first year or 45% in any of the next three years.
# If it voids, the Jets have the option of buying back the fifth and sixth years. The fifth year would cost $5 million. The sixth year would cost $9 million or $11 million or $13 million or $15 million, depending on a complicated points system.
# If it voids after the fourth year, the Jets can’t use the franchise or transition tag on him. The only way they could prevent him from becoming a free agent is to exercise the buy backs.

I'm sure Mr. Revis would come back and play for $5mio. That is exactly how it would turn out. No chance he just doesnt come to camp without a new, shiny fat contract? Sits for a bit a la Mr. Branch. I think there is a great chance that happens....whatever the case, Mr. Revis is going to get paid and the Jets are going to have to make that happen.

I don't like either team and cna't root for either but I do believe
The football gods will get the Colts and their fans will go crazy :)

One good thing that's already happened under the rules for an uncapped year is that as a result of being in the final four, none of these teams can sign ANY free agents, with the only exception being they can sign one or more to replace any free agent(s) lost, and the salary(ies) of the one(s) they sign have to be comparable to that of the one(s) they lost. I think the only FA on the Jets that they could lose would be Braylon Edwards, and I don't see anyone giving him a huge deal. Combine that with the fact that the Jets are minus a couple of draft picks and will be picking no higher than 29th in each round, and it warms my heart a little. They could win ten or more next year, but they could also lose ten or more.

Revis will ask for a new contract. He isnt even in the top 10 at his position.
I will give you benefit of the doubt and say your final sentence is a typo. Yes he will ask for a new deal but thats 3 yrs away and we will have plenty of cap room then. At that point were not paying big deals to Gholston, Faneca, Rhodes, Jones and several others. The Jets are fine cap wise

The Jets will beat the Colts...maybe, if Stover misses 2 field goals within the 40.

I approve of everything except the career ending injury to Bush. How about a minor high ankle sprain? With no Bush on the sideline, the cameras have no reason to show us KK a couple times a game.

Nice way to put it.

I am actually coming around to like the idea of rooting for the Jets against the Colts. Never thought I'd be committing this heresy, but I am tired of Manning's ball-washing.

I just don't see the Jets doing anything against the Saints in the superbowl. The Saints are too disciplined and have too many weapons. It would take a monumental choke- but I just don't see that happening. Brees is the type of player that embraces pressure and rises to the occasion.

I do not think I could watch Favre Vs Manning - you want to talk about the ultimate "super ball washing bowl" - that'd be it.

If the Green Beans beat Indy, it will forever haunt the Dolts for having literally spawned their own demise by letting them into the playoffs. All Indy had to do was beat them a few weeks ago and Jersey would've been eliminated en route to a perfect season. It will forever tarnish Polian's legacy and wreck Manning's quest for a second ring. I want the Beans to beat Indy and then get slaughtered in the Super Bowl by New Orleans. To me, that's the best of all possible outcomes.

Yup - I am getting lathered up over this game and that exact scenario................

Revis can void his deal after next year (which he is sure to do) and the Jets have the option of buying back the final 2 years for $5M in 2011 and at least $9M in 2012 (assuming both figures are guaranteed). The 2012 figure can go as high as $15M depending on incentives...no idea what those incentives are.

So Revis isn't going anywhere, but he is going to make from $14M-$20M guaranteed in 2011-2012. Still less than what he would make on the open market, but add that to what it will take to extend Harris and Mangold and all the other mega-salaries they already have...well lets just say they are interested in whether or not a cap exists.

I love it , lets hope it plays out..

everything you stated I posted earlier. You do realize you are taking about a scenario roughly 2-3 yrs from now? Bythat time the salaries of Kris Jenkins, Alan Faneca, Thomas Jones, Kerry Rhodes, Vernon Gholston, Lito Sheppard and maybe even a guy like Calvin Pace will be long gone. I have 0 fear that the core guys (Revis, Brick, Mangold, Harris etc.) will get there's and be locked up. We are fine cap wise going forward. With a possible uncapped year if possible I would think about extending them all to frontloaded deals now

youre a little too concerned with things that arent important
