Old scouting report, Ray Edwards 2006 NFL Draft Prospect

I had this guy pegged as a potential free agent to replace Jarvis Green and potentially stand up in some situations. The jerk had to go and get three sacks and drive up his value. For all the hype of Peppers, etc. I think it is more likely the Pats go after a middle tier player with upside.

Sidebar - After watching Jared Allen yesterday it is hard to overpay for an impact defender, he has changed their whole team.

I think he'll be an RFA, and his performance yesterday should make Minny more inclined to keep him with a higher tender.

This just proves my point when it comes to the cap if you want someone you can go get them. So I don't believe in the cap hell philosophy which gets used by the Krafts. After watching football this weekend it just cemented my theory that football is set up for passing teams and defenses that can harass the qb. You have to be able to draft these guys and make FA acquisitions IMO the Pats missed the boat here.

honestly he seems like the hollywood type, not that he has a ad attitude but i think he will go to a city like NY or somewhere in cali

Too much of a 4-3 DE. He doesn't really fit into a 3-4, not even close to being big enough for End and doesnb't fit at OLB either.

Isn't he the same size as Jarvis Green but with more upside? He would mostly play in passing downs as a pass rusher with some limited coverage responsibility (the flat), basically the same as big Willie.

Will he have a bigger impact then Michael Matthews? According to you guys, the greatest free agent pickup of alltime.

Jarvis is listed at 285.

Jarvis is listed at 285.

Jarvis Green is useless, he can't play 3-4 end because he is too light and has lost his quick twitch and can't get to the passer anymore but I digress.

Edwards (my binkie for this week) is listed at 6'5, 268. Basically the same size as Vrabel and McGinest. He is young, trending up and my binkie. Too bad he is a RFA, can't see him walking.

I don't think anyone can regard Ray Edwards as a second tier player after this season. He'll be the top choice in free agency to teams seeking a starting worthy defensive end. His price tag will be high. I would target either him or Will Smith if I'm Belichick. I say, Peppers is third behind both of them.
