I think talent needs to be upgraded at several positions. I think Belichick's scheme will work just fine with better talent. Obviously the talent wasn't there. I expect the Pats to be agressive to improve the talent on the defense this offseason.

If Patricia is closer to McDaniels than O'Brien in terms how fast he gets up to speed next season, this team could have an 180 turaround on defense quickly.
Saban and Belichick still run similar schemes. Saban has a ton more talent (relative to the competition) and is a lot more aggressive in blitzing. I, too, would like to see more of that but we need to actually get there when we blitz. The number of times we sent 5 or 6 this year and got nowhere close to the QB :(

As I just posted in another thread:

With a far worse group of talent this season, the Patriots still managed to be in the top 10 in scoring defense this season. It was a triumph of coaching and scheme over lack of talent, which is why the defense couldn't get it done against the better offenses, when the coaching just wasn't sufficient to cover for the absence of quality players. Cripes, how do people explain why the re-insertion of Sanders into the starting role made the defense look so much better despite all the claims that he's not a good player? "Bend but don't break" is just fine.

I agree that when the Pats blitzed, they failed and left defenders in coverage alone on an island far too often. That is why I say talent is more important than scheme right now.

Absolutely. I understand the "fan for life" thing but I don't buy it for myself. If you had an owner running the team into the ground would you lay out $40 for parking and $80+ for tickets every week ? I know I wouldn't.

Yeah, I would.

Yeah, I would.

So would I (just not every week as I am still in college and don't have the kind of money to do that). Go figure...

I forgot to mention, I'd also be taking Kontra with me.
