Wade Phillips about to sign 2-year contract extension

While maybe a average/good coach he has under achieved with that team.
He's just the defensive coordinator and we all know who pulls the strings.

I will give them credit for moving fast. Some teams like the Bills/Browns take forever to make a decision.

Re: Boys to extend Wade Phillips

I'd be surprised if Jason Garrett doesn't look at HC jobs now

Re: Boys to extend Wade Phillips

Signing that nitwit to an extension is the epitome of getting just what you deserve.

Re: Boys to extend Wade Phillips

An extension? Seriously? Wow...Jerry's really lost it. He runs Jimmy Johnson out of town but extends Wade Phillips?

come on Jerry, we need a DC now.. damn !

He couldn't put his hand behind Jimmy and make him move around........

Wade on the other hand is exactly what he likes....."Yes Sir, May I have another" !!

No surprise except to see that people are surprised.

Re: Boys to extend Wade Phillips

Ha! For anyone displeased with having BB, just look at what the options are for some other playoff caliber teams.

Re: Boys to extend Wade Phillips

3 years
-2 NFC East Titles
-Regular Season: 33-15 (.681)
-Playoffs: 1-2

If you look strictly at the numbers, he doesn't deserved to be fired.

Their last division title was in 1998, he's won two. He got the franchises first playoff win in 13 years.

I hope he does, this is BS Wade would be an intriguing D coordinator candidate:mad:. screw you Jerry!

I just went to the Boys forum and most are not happy with this. I really believe he is a good defensive coach but just not a HC.

Re: Boys to extend Wade Phillips

terrible call by jerry. not a high quality coach. sure, he did win a good amount of regular season games. but even then still not enough given the talent he has with that team. and one postseason win? not enough to go on considering they just got blitzed again.

Good point. Sorry, forgot we were talking about Bizarro World here :p

Well, if you look at the situation, I can see why Jerry did this. Cowher has already said he will wait until next season before he considers re-entering the coaching ranks. Who else is a potential candidate? What if there is no football in 2011 or longer?

Jones is cash strapped because of his new stadium. There is a lot of uncertainty of what will happen the next two years. Other than Cowher, the coaching pool isn't great. Jerry could fire Wade and either throw $10 million plus a year at Cowher (if he would even come if Jerry gave him a deal of a lifetime) and hope there is no lock out or fire Wade and either get another retread like Wade to replace Wade or gamble on a hotshot young coordinator.

My guess is he talked to Cowher and Cowher told him to call him next year. I think Jerry will gamble another year on Wade and check out the coaching crop next offseason.

Smart move by Jones.

We lost today b/c quite simply, the Vikings were the better team and kicked our teeth in. Make no mistake - the Vikings, especially playing in a Dome, are a GREAT team.

We still have a few pieces to fill - we need more DEPTH on the OL(i.e. when Flozell Adams went down, our entire OL fell to pieces) - hopefully, LT and maybe G can be addressed in the first round. And hopefully Nick Folk will be back at full strength next year(i.e. Folk had surgury and missed much of TC, and could never get in rhythm this year).

Otherwise, Wade has done an outstanding job here, and our locker room is FINALLY quieted down after the storm that was TO/Pacman/Tank.

That's funny - b/c over the last month, everyone was PRAISING Wade for the outstanding job he's done to help get us over the "Dec doldrums" hump.

Personally, I like Wade, and am satisfied with him.

Yeah, who do these people think Jerry's going to find to replace him this year? Perry Fewell? Like that's an upgrade.

Apparently every NFL coach has to win the Super Bowl every season. Ridiculous expectations. If the Cowboys had a few breaks go their way earlier in the game we may have been talking about a different result.

So, you're satisfied with mediocrity?

Jerry is low on $ on wade is fairly cheap compared to some others out there.

I would think, if Jerry feels he needs to make a change, he would hire Jason Garrett. He thinks the world of Garrett and he has been the coach-in-waiting for some time.

A couple years ago Garrett turned down the chance to interview with Baltimore and another team, and Jones got him to stay by making him the highest paid assistant in the NFL. The thought in the press at the time was that it was understood Garrett would get the Dallas job at some point in the future.
