The 2009 Colts and the 2009 Patriots

After again watching the colts, I am now convinced that almost our total need is to find playmakers on defense.

COMPARING THE OFFENSES
1) The colts are in no way a running team. Their running backs and running game are no better than ours.
2) Were Collie and Garcon great? Naah! They were better coached. The playcalling and the communication between OC, QB and the receivers is really a level above anything we have. I have no doubt that the colts and their OC would have done fine plugging in Edelman, Aiken, Galloway or Lewis or Nunn for that matter.

PREPARING FOR 2010
We need to re-sign Mankins and we need OG to replace Neal, and perhaps a second offensive lineman. We need to bring in 2-3 WR's in free agency and perhaps in the 6th or the 7th. And we need a TE and pehaps a FB in free agency. This isn't a major use of resources.

The rest needs to go to the defense.

not everything is the refs .They have the same offense for as long as manning has been there and they are very precise in the route running and passing game as anyone . Wayne is probably the best route runner in the league. Not every play is the refs. Their o line protects better because manning throws the ball quickly .Plus that no huddle drains your defense. Compared to the pats our OC has changed.Playcalling changes, players change every yr on offense.

It comes down to this. The Colts of 2009 are better than the Patriots of 2009 plain and simply. Everything they have done, they have done better and deserve to be where they are.

There are a lot of other issues between the two teams this year. What is frustrating to me is that if you remember all the pre-season predictions, this was supposed to be a down year for the Colts. New head coach, no Marvin Harrison. And now they are going to the AFC Championship game after beating the team that dominated the Patriots.

The Colts simply played big in big time situations against good teams, and the Patriots didn't. The Patriots could not get their offense in rhythm in the second half, and the Colts were able to win come from behind games regularly.

To me it seems that it has to do with roster management and player development. Sure everyone knows what a great talent Reggie Wayne is... but Pierre Garcon? Austin Collie? And look at all of the rookies/undrafted free agents that contributed in the Ravens game.

How the Patriots ended up with Aiken and Slater at WR in a playoff game is unacceptable. Granted Welker's injury depleted the roster. Just very frustrating to see the Colts continue to roll while the Patriots regressed in a lot of areas this year.

with all due respect, the colts offense this year was run by Manning who had a far superior year than Brady.

Remember that snow game against Tennessee when Brady looked so good? He was so late on a couple of throws - it was just that the defenders were that bad. That was his best game.

A lot of ducks from Brady this year, missed reads and over throws for a lot of the season.

The other difference is that this year's oline was not good. Brady took way way too many hits.

Obviously I am in the Brady camp on the career debate, but in the 2009 debate, Manning is the pick.

Well you cannot depend on players drafted in the 6th and 7th round to contribute. If we add 1-2 WR's in FA that we are pretty certain will contribute then its worth taking a shot on a WR in the 6th or 7th round, but you cannot depend on these players to make immediate contributions

Aiken wasn't able to do that. Between Collie and Edelman, it's a wash. Honestly, if we were comparing those two one on one with each other, I would take Edelman. But, as a whole, Garcon and Collie are better than Aiken and Edelman.

Take a look at the common opponent breakdown. Brady > Manning in 2009 any way you slice it. Fact is Manning gets to play frequently against CRAP pass defenses. Brady had to play against the most difficult pass defense schedule of the last 17 years.

I agree that Garcon is a better reciever than Aiken. The point I am attempting to make is that Garcon is better primarily because of better coaching, better playcalling and better schemes.
