What RB would you like IF we took one early?

I am not sure we take one in the first 2 rounds but we can if we want.
Be nice to have CJ Spiller who can break it any time but I kinda like a more power runner like Toby Gerhart.

Pass Rush is more important but we all know BB and IF someone drops to us he make take him.

Who's your guy if we went this route?

I agree that drafting pass rushers is probably more important, but CJ Spiller would be great pick up if they decide to take RB. He can be used on kick-off/punt returns, 3rd down back and 3rd/4th receiver in the two back formation. Based on what he has shown in college, he seems to fill multiple needs on the Patriots roster.

CJ Spiller as an all-purpose threat. Jonathan Dwyer as a workhorse.

Best from California.. but because of injury can be had in 2nd round

Ryan Matthews as a workhorse, Dexter McCluster as an all-purpose threat. Although your way works too.

we dont need to draft a running back early, especially not the first or second.

Mayos is more NFL ready but yours is more cost efficient.

CJ Spiller as home run threat and all purpose guy. Jonathan Dwyer as power guy/workhorse. I seem to agree with MayoClinic on a lot draft things :p

As someone else mentioned, Jahvid Best is also an option at RB, somewhat between Spiller and McCluster in terms of where he will probably go in the draft.

Where do you think McKnight is going?

Ryan Matthews is solid, but I think Dwyer is definitely the best all around back in the draft. Great combo of size, power, and speed. I remember watching him annihilate a LB on the U and also out run the secondary of Florida St.

He reminds me of a young Larry Johnson with better breakaway speed and quickness. I love the way he runs and the emotion he plays with. LJ was one of my favorite players growing up, so obviously I'm a fan of Dwyer.

If the Simmons thing has any truth to it, this is the "stud" RB I would think he is talking about.

Matthews is looking like a mid-round pick right? Maybe 3rd? If Pat Hill gives the recommendation, I'm sure BB will pull the trigger. Being a Fresno St. fan, I've watched Matthews singlehandedly keep the Bulldogs in games with HUGE runs. Just look at the Boise St. game - YouTube - Ryan Mathews, RB, Fresno State (2009) ...starts at 30seconds.

Good size (5'11" 220) with very nice breakaway speed. Really hits the hole.

BTW... that 3rd TD run against Boise, that's Kyle Wilson Matthews beats to the endzone. Some have Wilson ranked as a top 5 CB in the draft.

Jahvid Best i guess
but i would rather wait next year and hopefully use the raiders pick on a guy like Mark Ingram

Ingram is a beast but there is no gaurntee in football, Ingram could (God forbid) tear an ACL or have a terrible season. You have to draft for now.

I'm through drafting rb's. We are not very good at it apparently. I'd rather take my chances on drafting a smashmouth guard and Center to make the committee formidable.

But if we had to take one early I'd probably go with Toby Gerhart in the 3rd round with a trade down with our final 2nd round pick. Maybe it aquires a 2nd next year? Anyhow, that's as early as I take one and I think he will be there early in the third even though naysayers will claim he is going in the 2nd. I'll take my chances because that's how high of a priority I think RB is to this team right now.

If we want to have a better running game, we need a top OF, a FB and a TE or two (with Watson leaving). These are much more important than getting an improvement from our four running backs.

And just BTW, I don't want to emphasize the running game. I would much prefer that we get another receiver or two, and an OC, and have a better passing game.

Because our runningbacks have a really good health record? (Taylor, Morris, Maroney). Dude these guys are the poster childs for glass factories around the nation! And none of them counts as a real powerback for the 3rd and short/goal line situations either.

Interior OL is a priority as well, but there's nothing really special in that runningback stable right now. There's no workhorse back to count on to carry you in the playoffs or grind out the clock in the 4th Q of a must win game.

i completely understand but right now we dont have the offensive line to run the ball on a consistent basis which is why i said best who can do more than just run the ball
im not saying bet it all on ingram but just keep it as a little thought in the back of your mind that the next emmit smith might be in the draft next year:D

I agree.

I'd like them to take care of the pass rush and ILB issues first. Maybe take a flyer in the 5th round and go for Joique Bell. He's a D2 RB but should be a good pick up for a late round pick.

Just curious as to why you want more passing. I like more balance and that RB that break a long run which we really don't have.
