If you watch Gerhart run, he runs straight up and down. Not one NFL back is succesful running straight up and down. He doesn't have great speed, and he isnt a good cutter. Why not stick with Morris. No way do the Pats spend a second round pick on this guy let alone the first of the seconds. Hes not even slated to go in the second yet. Hes not playing QB, ILB, or Saftey so I really dont care about wonderlic scores. PAC-10 defenses were soft as ussual this year and even softer with SC's decline. The Pats have Zero home run threats out of the backfield and Toby Gerhart is the furthest thing for a homerun threat. CJ Spiller could be the perfect back to complement Morris/Maroney and he would eventually replace an aging Faulk. CJ had 36 catches for 503 yards and 4 tds to Gerharts 11 for 157 for 0 tds. CJ is a good blocker as is Gerhart but is Gerhart really the guy you want on the field on third down. Dwyer actually has legit speed and good hands but GT's offense doesnt showcase that. Both would be values in the second round but they most likely wont make it to the second because of the superior talent. Gerhart is a third round talent right now who might end up being a second round pick because a team might reach on him. LeGarrette Blount would be a steal if he goes after the second. He would have likely been a second round talent before the incident with Boise State. I personally think he has some character issues but he may be worth the risk. Hes a better back than Gerhart and hes the type of Back your looking for along with Dwyer and a few other backs. Gerhart will most likely end up being a fullback somewhere.
Beg to differ with you on Gerhert. Note:
"Big hard running back who has surprisingly good jump cut ability. Bulls through the line and will not be brought down by arm tackles. Has surprising speed and was able to hit the home run several times on long runs. Trucks over the safeties and corners who try to tackle him. Able to catch the ball smoothly when given a chance." Projected 4.48 40. Wants to do a 4.5. Some have predicted he will wind up being the best RB in the Draft. We don't have a third rounder. Will he last until 4th???Nyet!
The big negative on Dwyer is acceleration. Once he is going, fine. A better choice than Dwyer is Ryan Mathews, Fresno State
"Height: 5-11. Weight: 220.
Projected 40 Time: 4.45.
Projected Round (2010): 3-4.
(1,316 yards, 7.4 YPC, 11 TDs in eight games). You may shrug off the fact that he plays in the WAC, but in three games against Wisconsin, Cincinnati and Boise State, Mathews has rushed for 486 yards and four touchdowns on 76 carries."
He is a match to Maroney is the only issue that scares me. Maroneys real problem is lack of vision, not speed or cuts. If he has vision, fine.
See above about "trucks". Dillon "trucked". And yes I want Gerhert on the field on third down (again see the Maroney' "look out" block). After Faulk our RB's do not block that well. I also say he catches fairly well. Would you take Alstot to most of the backs you mentioned? He is a faster, more nimble Alstot.
I want HEART and TOUGH. I don't know about your other choices.
We need a player like Bettis or Dillon who can close out a game. 3rd and 4 to go, I don't want to have to throw 90% of the time. Let's get a back who can eat the clock.
