If the Patriots want a power back with skills, target Stewart.
5'10"....235 lbs....22 yrs old...2 yrs pro...1st round ,13th pick
1131 yds...5.1 ave...10 TDs rushing....18 catches...139 yds...1TD
Had a monster year end as a starter rushing for 440 yds in final three games against Vikings, Giants, Saints
Stewart has been Deangelo Williams back up for two years and superb sub. No coincidence that the Panthers starting winning when Stewart was the feature back. I see a young Cory Dillon...down hill runner, breaks tackles, hungry...a beast.
Would Carolina be willing to part with Stewart? A team with no passing game needed 2 big backs this past year...but with incentive?...who knows.
I'd start with #42 pick and Maroney, but would be willing to add picks. This guy could be the answer for years to come

I see no reason why Carolina would want to trade Stewart. Why acquire Maroney when they can simply keep their own player. They've too much of a good thing going with Williams and Stewart--having two running backs is the trend.

Williams is a free agent in 2011 and Stewart in 2013.

I think Belichick would prefer to draft another running back.

Sorry to burst your bubble, but why the heck would Carolina do that?

Instead of Stewart why not go all out and get Adrian Peterson?
Edit: before some idiot quotes me, ^ that was a joke.

why stop at adrian peterson chris johnson would be a much better fit

F it, Barry still has a few years left in him.

Yeah Carolina wouldn't do this.

Best case is he becomes available when his rookie contract is up, I assume he has at least 2 more years on that, and I don't think we should wait that long if Maroney isn't the guy of the future!

Yeah, come back Barry, you're not that old.

I think they should offer Matt Slater, Terrence Wheatley, and their third 2nd rounder for Darrelle Revis. He and Stewart would be good additions. Joe Thomas would upgrade the o-line. Get r done.

On a more serious note, Marion Barber seems to be looking like he needs a new home. Felix Jones is making a bigger and bigger impact in the running game, while Barber is constantly banged up. Obviously, this is a guy that you hope has something in the tank and could shake the injury bug when you sign him. I'm thinking of good ol' Antowain Smith when I think of Barber.

Could we offer Brady, Vince, Logan and all our Draft picks for Herschel Walker?

This board has schizophrenia. Half the people want a power running game, while the other half see the offensive scheme and realize we have Brady.

There need to be two types of threads in these offseason/draft discussion. The power running people need to start each thread with the letters PR, so, "PR: What RB do we take in the draft?" The spread offense people need to start each thread with SO, like so: "SO: So, how many WRs do we need to draft?"

Put me down with the SO people simply because Belichick and Brady are here. This is the team that won two Super Bowls with Antowain Smith!!!! A power runner sure, but he was on the order of Sammy Morris or Fred Taylor. In fact, in those years, the Patriots threw the ball like crazy to a diversified offense of 4 different WRs.

It's obvious to me how this offense is going to go, and power running is not it.

Our O-line is NOT built for a power running game. As long as Koppen mans the middle, our hopes for a power running game are nil. And as long as Light mans the LT position, our hopes for a power running game to the left are doubly nil.

Really we need an innovative OC that can devise a spread offense to spread out the defense and a power running back that can make one tackler miss. Currently we lack the OC and we lack the power running back to make any of this happen.

i was thinking about this earlier and would love to see maroney and barber back together

Dallas definitely has three starting quality running backs in Barber, Jones and Choice. My preference would be Choice as he can run inside and outside, pass block, and is a good receiver as well. I'm not sure Dallas would trade him though because he's the healthiest of the three. But maybe they could replace him later in the draft if they were to acquire a 2nd rounder for him.

Dallas just extended Barber I think, so that may have cap consequences (depending on the CBA) to trade this year. I think Barber wouldn't be worth what he may cost.

Playing for the Cowboys? I think that would be a tremendous. Let's get Jerry on the phone.

There we go! Maroney and a our 2nd for Choice and Dallas' 3rd.

Hes in MMA now lol He actually has a contract with Strikeforce.

How about Maroney straight up for a crate of wrapping tape and a used jock strap; we can give the used jockstrap to Thomas as a going away present.

Barry "dances" too much. I'd rather get Jim Brown.

But seriously, LenDale White could be available (new CBA contract pending). I can see him more here as a Dillion type. We drafted Maroney to fill the Dillon void and he is not the same type of back. White is. He wants out of Tenn. and won't start ahead of Johnson. He is 26. He had 1,100 years two years ago with 20 receptions.

Draft? Crappy years for RB's unless your into scat backs.

Quire frankly after Spiller (not a BB style RB as he is more of a Texans Slaton type, nor does he have Chris Johnson 4.29 speed), there is Toby Gerhert who I would take with my first round two pick. There is NADA after that in RB's worth a high choice. Gerhart starts in 2010 if the Pats draft him IMO. He runs, blocks, catches is smart and has a great looking girl friend.
