I only caught the tail end of it on 98.5, but Bert Breer was on Damon Amendolara's show and he said that Nick Caserio could be the next OC. He is only speculating, but he did give some decent evidence:

- Caserio was in the press box every game with Ernie Adams every game assisting the coaching staff. I know from sitting in the club seats a few times that Pioli did it (sitting in the press box with Ernie Adams) too when he was here, but I don't think it was a common occurance. Caserio was also spotted assisting coaching at some practices.

-Caserio does have a decent amount of offensive experience serving as WR coach and offensive coaching assistant.

-Breer also said that Caserio is said to be more like McDaniels than O'Brien is.

- Breer said that he feels that Brady and O'Brien never really clicked and Brady will have some say in who is his OC and will have difficult time endorsing someone he can't get in tune with.

I am not betting on it at this point, but it might make some sense. Caserio's star seems to be rising faster than O'Brien's. He seems to be a brighter guy. If he is like McDaniels, he might be a far better signal caller.

if he doesnt like his OC, and that OC hasnt proven anything....that OC is gone

Caserio seems to have a good football mind.

Are you saying that we should blame Brady for the choosing our 2009 singal caller?

I wouldn't mind seeing Nick in that role. The only problem is that it would leave the personnel department even more empty, unless Nick can somehow handle both duties. Someone has to manage the department as a whole, and someone has to manage both the pro personnel and college scouting operations.

That's the bare minimum: three directors (player personnel, college scouting, pro personnel) The Pats, over the past 3-4 seasons, have operated right at or just above that bare minimum. Before that, they had assistant directors for most of those positions. In 2009, they were just above it: Nick was player personnel, Jon Robinson was college scouting, and Jason Licht was pro personnel, assisted by Bob Quinn. However, the Pats operated with less area scouts in 2009 than they have in the past. Bob Quinn, a former national scout, very well may have assisted in that area.

So if Caserio somehow becomes the OC, then I think you see Licht get promoted to Player Personnel director; he's already gone full-circle in his career, going from Pats pro personnel director to Eagles VP of player personnel to Pats pro personnel director. He would seem to have the qualifications. Then you would continue to have Jon Robinson manage the college scouting department and Quinn the pro personnel department. That's doable, but you're taking a quality mind out of that mix in Caserio.

That's the part that kind of worries me as well about this.

Agreed. That's the only bad part. However, if Brady is more comfortable with Caserio, then the move would be worth it, IMO.

I heard Breer on there tonight. He said quite a few interesting things, and he gave a spirited defense of Pees.

While we continue to think that Brady's sensititivities are so important in choosing an OC, should we consider that the time of spread offense we have and the choice of focusing on Moss and Welker just might be Brady's choices.

I suspect that if you want a more balanced offense, then Brady shouldn't be the one picking the OC.

Of course, belichick may have little choice in the matter.

How in hell do you know so much?

Do you see any chance of Floyd Reese taking on a larger FO role with the Pats then he has had? It might be one way of keeping him from taking the Seattle GM job if it is offered. He certainly has a lot of experience, and has had a reasonable amount of success in the past. He could team up with Licht, Robinson and Quinn.

Certainly Reese playing Scott Pioli's role and Caserio as OC would be a much stronger set of personalities to balance BB than what we essentially had this season.

Maybe our HOF QB should take better care of the ball, and not be concerned about his feelings toward the OC. It wasnt the OC throwing INTs at the worst possible moments.

brady is like manning, the OC realy means noting with the colts and pats brady, likes to throw from shotgun and he likes to throw to he's big name WR's welker, more so

and they don't have the RB's to have a balanced offense right now Fred Taylor, should retire. Kevin Faulk, may retire. Sammy Morris , will be 33. BenJarvus Green-Ellis, is just a ST player and maybe a FB. Laurence Maroney, they wont give him the ball and i think they will trade him on draft day for a 3rd round pick.

My thoughts also, Reese is a proven commodity.. not sure now is the time to shake up the front office... from what is written here, Caserio may be fine as the OC..

I'd rather hire a respected offensive coordinator than try to find someone based on Brady's approval. Let's face it, we've become a team who's offense is run by a defensive expert HC and a quarterback who had his greatest success as a consistent cautious game manager.

That's not a dirty word, it's usually used to describe QBs who win Super Bowls rather than put up gaudy numbers. Remember how much pride we took in Brady never putting the ball up for grabs? Lol now. Brady now wants to throw long all the time and put up the numbers. If he picks a coach to enable that philosophy, we'll be just where we started.

If all of that is accurate, it's time Crafty Bob put a few more people out in the field where they are NEEDED!!
Stop pinching pennies when folks are spending $50 to park, and you sellout every game!!

No thanks on Caserio, we need a real OC (you know who has done it before), not a personal guy. And we have plenty of RBs to get the job done if our OL new how to run block. See it helps to actually run the ball to get used to run blocking rather in defensive pass protection mode all game.

I agree here.

The half time adjustments this season stunk and the play calling was predictable and unimaginative. Galloway not panning out hurt the offense.

The problem is finding an OC from the outside that BB can trust.
