This morning on Mike & Mike someone said that Tedy Bruschi said that if Pete Carroll had been granted one more year in New England, he could've turned it around.

I like Pete, and I supported him when a lot of other Pats fans were calling for his head. But I thought the general consensus was that by the end of the '99 season, most of the players had given up on him. I especially remember the game at Philadelphia, everyone said the players didn't seem to give a darn.

Plus there's his record - 10-6, 9-7, 8-8... So am I missing something?

Listening to Mike & Mike in the Morning kills braincells. No, I do not think that Carroll could have turned it around. Not as long as Bledsoe was the quarterback.

why torture yourself like this?

what possible good can come from wondering about Pete the Cleaner's mythical fourth season?

he took a playoff team and ran it into the ground...Booby Grier missed on 29 out of 31 draft picks during that span...I'm just sorry it took Kraft so long to smell the garbage.

Pete Carroll is a pure and simple college coach, he will be out of the nfl in another 3 years... after a 10-6 9-7 and a 7-9 season... Pete Caroll would not have done well here and by the way he did not...

With Bledsoe, NO WAY. What gets me with Bledsoe is he never even tried to get better in the offseason. He ran off to the sticks only to go fishing and didn't give a crap about improving ANYTHING he didn't do well.

On top of that the players had ZERO respect for the guy. I will never forget when Good Ole' Pete called a play near the goaline only to have Meggett wave the players back against his wishes then went on to score the TD on the play they liked better LMAO. Right then and there I knew he was done.

1) As I've said before, when you live in this state BSPN Radio is your only sports option unless you like listening to news about the Packers 24/7.

2) If anyone else had said it, I wouldn't have given it much credence... but Tedy?! Why would Tedy say that? He of all people should have seen the difference in going from Parcells to Carroll to Belichick.

Yeah, he did turn it around: from SB to .500.

Anyone else remember the Dave Meggett "screw you Pete" wave the subs back play?

..or with Greer around...

Good lord, the talent void was terrible in BB first year here. Can't you remember all the JAG's that were brought in just to fill holes?

Think back to the game where Carroll was frantically calling for timeout on the sidelines and all his players - even Bledsoe - looked right at him and ignored him. He accepted that insubordination and it was the end. I supported him right up until then.

Carroll's success as a head coach has more to do with recruiting success than anything else, and beyond any assertions of indescretions in his methodology in that realm, the fact that he was inviting the nation's best players to come and play for a laid back coach in a laid back state, at a laid back college with beautiful California girls and the high hopes of... well, getting laid...

... and it's not tough to understand why the nation's best players were inclined to come and play at USC. Don't get me wrong - it's not like he still couldn't botch that up, but he had a helluva head start over other teams given the caliber of playing he was using.

Those "recruiting" techniques, nor style of leadership are going to work in the NFL.

Sorry Seattle. He wouldn't have turned it around here and I doubt he will there.

Pete Carrol will be coaching at Notre Dame by 2013. I don't despise the guy, but I just don't think he's cut out for the NFL unless he's a DC.

That's part of the thing - back in those days I didn't have Sunday Ticket so there were a lot of Pats games I didn't see, so I don't recall stuff like this y'all are talking about. Especially by '99, they weren't doing as well so CBS wasn't showing them nationally as much anymore.

But I'm with you, Joe - I don't see the Seattle gig working out any better for him than NE. (I don't really count his season with NYJ because it was only one season.) Apparently he was saying he was only interested in coaching a team where he would have total control, and in fairness Vince Lombardi probably couldn't build a good team with Bobby Grier picking the players. But if his coaching style is so badly suited for the pros, is it going to make a difference if he's buying the groceries?

With Pete Carroll's killer instinct of course the Pats would turn around. You know when most coaches get the ball with over a minute left in the half when they are down by a TD try to get at least 3 points with a field goal, Carroll bravely gambles and takes a knee and say "We will just get those points in the second half." Any cowardly coach can try to get points when given a chance, it takes a brave coach to purposely try to leave points on the field in the first half to get them in the second.

Sarcasm aside. I consider Pete Carroll a lite version of Herm Edwards. He is basically Herm Edwards without the talent. I think both guys would or did make a great college coach, but are/were NFL lightweights.

I am personally jacked and pumped for the Seahawks fans to find out about Carroll first hand.

This team was never going to turnaround with Carroll whether he had Bobby Grier sinking his chances or not.

Carroll relies on the "Rah Rah" style of coaching, which works well on young players that will be around for 4 years or less. That's why he has had success at the college level. Doesn't work so well in the pros, with vets set in their ways, particularly if he's not winning. Expect a similar trajectory with the Seahawks. Maybe one good year, with a decline following.

Not in our lifetimes.

Some here forget that Carroll had the team going backwards ... not forwards.

1997 > 10-6

1998 > 9-7

1999 > 8-8

FOXBORO, Mass. (AP) -- Pete Carroll, who took over a Super Bowl team in New England after replacing Bill Parcells, was fired Monday after three seasons as Patriots coach. There was no immediate word on a successor.

The team that went to the 1997 Super Bowl under Parcells declined in each of Carroll's seasons, bottoming out with an 8-8 last-place record when it beat Baltimore 20-3 Sunday after losing six of its previous seven games.

"This is a business of accountability, and two years ago we won the division.

Last year we barely made the playoffs and this year we're 8-8,"

Kraft said. "We need a momentum change."

No way.

That's not saying he couldn't with a fresh start and control somewhere else, but that team was headed to the bottom.

I should have said that organization. It was Krafts leap of faith to give BB control that saved the team.

I guess Tedy has started drinking in the morning.
