Not even going to bother reading it. Pretty stupid premise though. Boston's had a hell of a lot to cheer about w/ 3 teams winning 6 championships in a relatively short amount of time. Regression to the norm isn't really such a thing to dread since it's very inevitable.

Also, there's really no reason that the Red Sox won't win enough games to get to the post season this year, and there's nothing solid that indicates the Patriots are going to be worse in 2010 than they were this year, so all I see is just more writers jumping on the 'end of a dynasty' bandwagon who won't admit they were wrong if the Patriots or any other Boston team pulls off another championship.

They made a very solid move signing John Lackey. He is a spitfire and a competitor that we always had trouble playing against, especially in the playoffs. That gives us 3 very solid pitchers in the rotation, with Clay and Dice the only question marks. I also like Beltre at 3b, but our SS is still unsolved.

Pats- Brady, BB, lots of young players, cap space and picks...possible top 5er in 2011. Still going, definitely improving.

Sox- great pitching, good lineup, good mgr, great ML system. Getting better.

Celtics- yes, on the downswing. But, that may include 1-2 more rings.

Bruins- I am not much of a hockey guy, but they seem to have a good young team. The Kessel deal will help them re-load as well.

But Breer is smart. The "sky is falling" attitude seems to be selling this week.

Boston's doing just fine. The Sox will probably be better than last year. If not for an insane run by the Yankees, they would have taken the AL East.

Depending on the moves the Pats make, you're looking at a good shot at the AFC East again next year. I've said it before, but the only other SB dynasty to have the kind of continued success (measured by wins and PO appearances) the Pats have had is the 49ers. The 70s Steelers and 90s Cowboys both fell off a lot quicker. All things must come to an end, but the Pats aren't done yet.

If this offseason, BB breaks out a ****tail napkin reading "I resign as HC of the NEP", Brady decides to hang em up and enjoy the good life, and Randy says he's had enough then I'll start talking about this "end of an era" crap. Until then, jog on...

I'd disagree that the Celts are on the downswing. If anything their short and long-term future is about as bright as its been in nearly 30 years.

You have Rondo locked up, who is - without question, IMO - the best player on the team at this point. He is one of the best PGs in the league. For all the talk about him reaping the benefits of playing with Pierce, KG, Allen - if Rondo were on some scrub team with no chance of winning every night, he'd probably handle the ball even more and put up 25 points a night, and still get about the same assist #s. This guy is a freak athletically, and when he shows up defensively, he's as good as anybody. His effort has been higher on the defensive end this year, and its showed.

Then you got Perk, who is an absolute beast on both ends of the court. Perk has slowly acquired the offensive skills to carry a frontcourt, but hasn't been asked to use them much - until this year. His FG% is insane. He's a smart player and knows how to work down low on both ends. He's as good a defender as they have on the team and a very good rebounder.

The two centerpieces of the Celts going forward are Perk & Rondo, and that's a great foundation. Not to mention that they still have Pierce, Allen, KG for some length of time, and even as they lose those guys, that will just leave empty space on the payroll to pick up marquee free agents, who - for the first time in a long time - may find Boston an alluring place to play basketball.

That was longwinded, but I do feel the Celts are going to be a good for a while. Just as I think both the Patriots and Red Sox will as well.

Especially the Pats - look, Brady will be good until he's 40 and the team will contend as long as Belichick is here. I know the Pat-haters wouldn't like to admit that, but it's true. We're not going anywhere. This was a down year and we'll improve.

Celts- Ainge staggered the big 3 contracts. Rondo is locked up. Perk is coming into his own. Ainge knows what he is doing. Good shot at a title this year. Maybe not so much next year with the team as currently constituted, but Ainge has proven himself to be a pretty good GM who now has the cache and confidence bestowed by mgt to take risks. Celts are in the best spot since 1986.

Bruins- Fine shape. Young players are locked up. Penty of draft pricks. Good young goaltender in Rask. I like how the young Jacobs is very emotional about this team. Chirarelli is doing a fine job. I'm good with what the Bs are doing.

Pats- May take a year or so to get back to 01-04 levels, but with BB, strong ownership and Brady still a top QB, I'm fine with this team.

Sox- This year may be a bridge year, but they have lots of cash coming off the books next year. Have good young pitching both in the rotation and the pen and minor leagues. I am concerned about their lineup though. Need to acquire or develop 2 mashers. They simply have not done that to replace the Manny/Ortiz combo.

IMO- Breer is praying on the hysteria. Plenty to be optomistic about.

This "end of an era" crap is really just ridiculous. "No one will have sympathy for us nor should they, blah blah blah". Who cares, we don't need sympathy from other fans, sympathy is for losers. There is really nothing to suggest that any hard times are about to come. The Pats still won 10 games, the Sox are still in great shape going into 2010, the Celtics are a powerhouse (health is becoming a problem though), and the Bruins (which I don't follow) are looking good.

You forgot Rasheed Wallace. While he is a powder keg waiting to blow every time he plays, he still can step it up in the playoffs and is a consistent performance. Deadly high release that's unblockable, great range, great in the post. His downside is fouling out, but he should be able to take some heat off Garnett, as long as he doesn't get too tight over the refs. I think he can be that X factor for them, come playoffs.
