We need young offensive players!

We always need playmakers on both sides of the ball. However, the fact remains that the offense will not be maintained and get better if we contiune to draft 7 defensive players and 1 offensive player as we have in the 1st three rounds over the past three years.

The offense needs a starting quality guard or two, two wide receivers, a starting quality running back or two, a starting quality tight end, a developmental quarterback, and a developmental OT. The offensive cupboard is bare.

The defensive needs a few spots filled but this offense is going to crumble fast if improvements aren't made. Outside of Moss and Welker we don't have any respectable WRs. Edelman is decent but not a deep threat and running 5 yard slants only goes so far.

We have 3 RB's over 30 and Maroney and none of them are really fast.
I know our OL is built more for passsing than a running game but how many big runs did we get this year.
I would say RB is a big need after OG on offense.

I like Mardy Gillyard out of Cincy in the 2nd maybe Joe McKnight our of SC in the third as long as we keep Morris as the power back.

Regardless of what happens with Neal, we need to draft at least a RG as well as, possibly, a wide receiver.

I'd focus on interior OL and WR on offense. RB and TE were mostly never a strength in the SB years aside from Dillon. Maybe a low round pick or a bargain FA like Michael Bush if he would sign cheap. He can be our Antowain of this decade!

We need more offensive playmakers, but if your DeSean Jackson sentence was meant as a jab at Randy Moss, you are uninformed. Jackson does not receive the same type of coverage from opposing defenses as Randy Moss does. Further, Jackson had 14 yards against this Cowboys on Saturday, 47 yards the week before that also against the Cowboys, and 33 yards the week before than against Denver. 8 of DeSean's 16 games featured 3 catches or less this year. He's an excellent player, and I'd love to have him, but he's not Randy Moss.

I am undecided on Gillyard, is he simply a great college player, or will he be a big time NFL player? He likely won't wow anyone with size/speed numbers at the combine. There's a number of very good receivers in the NFL who didn't wow in shorts and t shirts either, but recent success stories like Jackson, Harvin (and to a lesser extent Mike Wallace and Johnny Knox) all were very fast.

Yeah, I'd expect running back to be a need. I really doubt that Faulk is not coming back next year. However, I suspect any one of Maroney, Taylor, or Morris may not be back. However, I think we'll pick up another RB through free agency or trade. The draft will most likely be spent on the line.

I agree that we should draft ONE defensive player early: a 3-4 DL. The early draft is the place to find such players, and we need to replace Green and Seymour. We have Brace and Pryor, but we need one more.
I completely Agree with this, a RDE needs to be the #1 priority. But on the O side I think you have gone a little overboard

The offense needs a srarting quality guard or two, -Neal is a FA, possibly retire, they resign Mankins, a second round OG could fill that spot well.

Two wide receivers, -still don't know what they have in Tate, a 2nd/3rd rounder could fill that hole also.

a starting quality running back or two, -I doubt it is going to be two RB. I could see Marony being let go Morris Faulk & Taylor staying and a youngster being drafted. AND bringing in a real FB. One of the best piece players was Heath Evans, letting him go was a mistake.

a developmental OT. With four experienced OTs signed I doubt it would be much more than a late round PS type guy.

We have lots of young defensive players.

We do need a corner and an impact OLB or two. Well, then we need to find them in free agency.

I suspect the center play will greatly improve greatly with improved guard play.

Need to keep Mankins too. Hopefully OG/C is addressed with a day 1 pick. We've done well with OL on day 1 - Light, Mankins, Vollmer. Other day 1's I hope are DE,LB,WR. That is my ideal draft, late rounds are a bonus whatever comes of it.

The offensive line is not an issue whatsoever. They allowed 16 sacks the entire season and were ranked 5th for run blocking and 2nd in pass protection according to Football Outsiders. Sebastian Vollmer is ready to step in right now and play either T position and if there is one thing that Belichick has proven without a doubt, its that you can take any physically capable person that is willing to learn and work hard and turn them into a very productive NFL lineman (Stephen Neal and Dan Koppen come to mind). Should Neal retire this offseason, Mark Levoir and Dan Connolly showed they belong in the NFL.

Brian Hoyer isn't a "developmental quarterback" or because he was an undrafted free agent he can't possibly turn into a decent back up QB.

The running game doesn't so much as need quality as it does quantity. RBs take a beating, break down much faster than other position players, and tend to make a lot when they are good. If we can find 2 guys who can survive 16 games and hold onto the football, the running game will take care of itself.

The use of the TE depends entirely on the system that is being run on offense. Historically the Patriots have used bigger TEs who they can use in pass protection and in my opinion have been misusing Ben Watson his entire career. He was drafted because his size and speed should create mismatches on defense in that he's too big for DBs and too fast for LBs but they never seem to run him in the slot.

The only thing that I kind of agree with you is the need for WRs. Edelman showed enough that he should be penciled in as the #3 depending on how Welker progresses in his recovery. But with much bigger needs on defense it would be foolish to spend a high draft pick on a WR.

Mankins is a RFA. We will tender him. He might hold out, but is likely to play for 2010.
Neal is ready to retire or collapse whichever comes first.
We need TWO guards, one to start this year and one to start next.
We could do with only one, but he would need to be expected to start.

I'm fine with the OT's for 2010, but Light will be gone in 2011, and a developmental OT would hurt. This is especially a good idea if he also plays OG.

The offensive line is not an issue whatsoever.
