Apologies if there is already a Schofield thread somewhere...

I haven't been paying too much attention to Schofield since I didn't see him projecting well to OLB or even situational 4-3 rush end for the Pats. However, a thought occurred today. Schofield is around 6'2", 245lbs. Played as an undersized DE but was very productive in sacks and tackles for loss for a major program in a major conference. Showed up big in big games. Fast, high-motor guy. Projected to be a 3rd-4th round pick.

Remind you of anyone?

Sounds a lot like Bruschi coming out of Arizona.

Don't know about Schofield's smarts (major consideration) but could the Pats take Schofield to start out as a ST/situational guy but eventually become an inside guy that can move all over the field and do everything? I haven't wrapped my mind around this concept yet but I have to admit I find the possibility interesting. Anyone have a better read on Schofield?

I've seen him in person a couple of times -- great motor. He had trouble getting off blocks in the games I saw though.

Could be a project though.

Wisconsin senior defensive end O’Brien Schofield has accepted an invitation to play in the 85th East-West Shrine Game. The Game will be held Jan. 23, 2010, in Orlando, Fla., kicking off at 2 p.m. (CT). Schofield joins an elite list of football greats, such as John Elway, Tom Brady, Brett Favre, and 62 NFL Hall of Famers that has played in the East-West Shrine Game, America’s longest-running college all-star football game. “The East-West Shrine Game has always fielded players among college football’s best,” said East-West Shrine Game Executive Director Jack Hart. “With all 32 NFL teams represented by GMs, coaches and scouts during game week, our players have the terrific opportunity to showcase their talents and get their first glimpse of life in the NFL … ‘Just Like on Sunday.’” A semifinalist for the Bednarik Award, which is given to the best defensive player in the country, Schofield is currently second in the NCAA with 18.5 tackles for loss and is tied for second in the Big Ten with 7.5 sacks. On the season, he has 44 tackles, two forced fumbles, one fumble recovery and one pass defended. The participation of Schofield marks the seventh year in a row that the University of Wisconsin will be represented at the event. Andy Kemp, DeAndre Levy and Matt Shaughnessy were all selected last season. - Wisconsin football via NFL Draft Scout
