Seems a lot of folks on this board are all of the sudden very impressed with the Jets this season. Some even see them being the new kings of the AFC East over the next decade.

Before we address that, who do you think had the better team this season?

Me? The Patriots, easily. The Jets were at best an 8-8 team this season. Now when I say the Jets are at best an 8-8 team I'm not using the ol' "Well if this play went differently then they would of loss that game!" fans always love to use.

Rather, just clearly seeing like everyone else did that the last two teams they played did not try to win the game. There is absolutely no chance in hell the Colts lose to the Jets had they not pulled their starters, none. The Jets at that point would have been 7-8 and eliminated from playoff contention. Had the Bengals play their starters the following week, it certainly could have been competitive, as they are two very comparable teams (though the Jets obviously played better Wild Card weekend) and even giving that win to the Jets still would only put them at 8-8.

I certainly do not see the Jets beating the Chargers this week.

I wonder how this poll is gonna turn out.

The Jets have been a better team since at least Sunday.

Earlier in the season, the Pats were better.

Honestly the Pats were the better team overall but over in the long run, the Jets are the better team for late season success. They know how to run the ball, stop the run and they have a shutdown corner. We have none of those things and thats why were looking forward to next season and they are still playing. I knew that they had a better chance to advance last week when they steamrolled the Bengals. I hope they get smacked by San Diego but it will be close.

It's easy to be better late in the season when your team has only played two legitimate football games since December 20th.

Also the reason their defense wouldn't have been able to maintain that "#1" in the league title had the Colts not yanked the NFL MVP for Curtis Painter and the Bengals even tried, the Cowboys would have surpassed them, with the Ravens also having a shot.

We can sit here and make up every excuse to why the Jets defense is overrated but the fact of the matter is they are the team thats built to win in the playoffs. The Ravens are the same way. Those two teams are playing and we arnt. Its time to move on. Start getting your free agents and draft prospects together.

I do think the Jets defense is overrated, very. As I mentioned in another thread...

Jets @ Dolphins
Thirteen play 70 yard game winning TD drive (0:06 remaining)

Jaguars @ Jets
Twelve play 83 yard game winning FG drive (0:00 remaining)

Falcons @ Jets
Eleven play 73 yard game winning TD drive (1:38 remaining)

Against non-playoff teams, at that.

There is no dominating defense in the NFL this season, the Jets just happen to be the statistical leaders. They are not a team whose defense can singly handily win them games this post-season and the Chargers will make that very clear.

Without Welker, I think they are better than us and would beat us right now regardless of where the game is. Our offense would do nothing against them all day, it would be like week 2 maybe worse with Moss and Brady banged up right now. With Welker we are better.

If they were to play this week, the Jets would be favored, regardless of where they played. The Jets would be able to run the ball and stop Randy Moss, just like the Ravens did. And believe me, it hurts to admit this.

OTOH, I don't buy into the BS about the Jets being better for the next decade. Sounds a little like what they were saying about Miami after last year. The Jets team was built to sell Woody Johnson's PSLs. Ryan's schtick will get old fairly quickly, and they really only drafted two players last year, Sanchez and Greene. In April, the Jets will make their second round pick only after the Patriots have already picked four players. They'll only be able to sign one significant free agent (and probably none if they win on Sunday). The Patriots can expect significant jumps from some of the 9-10 guys who were rookies this year, and they may be able to get some help at LB from McKenzie or Crable.

Because of Welker, probably so. However I thought the Bengals were a fraud and we played by far the tougher team. If the Jets go to SD and win - then I'll be impressed. Not until then.

Jets, on paper, early in the season, and now late in the season. They have a running game, a stud OL, decent WRs, a good TE, a front-seven that generates pressure, a shutdown CB, and a pair of good safeties.

Rhodes and Leonhard are pedestrian, at best.

I have to believe that their front seven is coached up significantly, so props to Ryan for that. Other than Scott and Harris, there's really no one there that impresses me that much. Pace and Thomas are nothing special. Ellis is pretty good, but other than that I have no idea who they start on the DL, and Jenkins is inconsistent when he's healthy, which is pretty much never.

the unpopular choice is the jets, for the simple reason

they are playing next week, we are not...

right now they have the better defense and running game...

We still have the better coach and qb by far..

But for this season its the jets...

Leonard is a good hitter but is very suspect in coverage, and Rhodes is the most overrated safety in the NFL... by far. Our safeties are better. Their corners are better, though that's only because of Revis. Their front seven is better. Their offensive line is better, which is what makes their running game look better. Honestly, I don't think Greene or Jones would have much success running behind our line. That's why I would honestly take our running backs over their's. I would also take our WR's and TE's over their's and Brady over Sanchez. Overall, I would say that the Jets have a talented team, but that we're better. The ace in the hole for us is Brady and Belichick.

You mean the QB that has thrown 12 INTs in his last nine playoff games, and the coach that has gone 5-4 in his last nine playoff games? :)

Sadly I'm going with the Jets because they have improved a great deal under Rexy and their defense is better than ours with our offense only being better on paper right now.

Would you rather have Sanchez?

Good points but every defense has some bad games, they have a nice test this week :D
