The 2000 championship run is over.. the last 3 years have been really crappy way to end the football season.. 2005, they just ran out of gas, but from 06-09 this team has ended the football season leaving us with a bitter taste in our mouths..

06- the fall against the colts
07 sb 42 and the whole spygate thing
08 - the year without brady, and the year with out a 11-5 playoffs
09 - failure to show up in jan for a home playoff game..

Did i expect this team to win the SB, No ,but I did expect them to show up and compete... So I will pose this poll to the fans out there, who has been the biggest reason or cause of the 2000's to end with out 1 more super bowl win..

I changed the title for the simple reason, Im not whining or complaining this team had a lot of opportunites the last 3 years to win 2 super bowls.. The team will be competive along with Belichick and Brady, but alot of people have to be naive to think that alot of changes need to be made to take advantage of Tom Brady in his prime...

I think the Patriots went away from being a defensively minded team to focusing on offense and hasn't been the same since.

Re: Who was the biggest cause of the end of the dynasty??

I like where you're going with this, Sean, because it probably is time for all of us to start realizing we're not the 2003/2004 powerhouse anymore...

Starting with the 2006 AFC Championship Game vs. the Colts, the varnish has been coming off. The 16-0 2007 season only lulled into a sense of false security and delayed what was coming.

Incidentally, I wuold still say if the 2004 Patriots played the 2007 Patriots, the 2004 team would win, because they were tougher and more gritty.

All that said, we should also accept that this just happens.

You cannot be great forever.

Every so-called "dynastic" team hits the skids and then, hopefully, rebuilds for another era of greatness.

The 60's Packers; the 70's Steelers, Dolphins & Cowboys; the 80's Niners & Raiders; the 90's Cowboys & Bills, the 2000's Patriots....all had their moments in the sun and all had to hit a rebuilding period. It will happen to the 2000's Colts, too. It just doesn't last forever. It can't!

Hopefully, we'll still get a decent team while we rebuild and not have to fall back into the ranks of the 4-12, 5-11 teams again. (This is something I DO NOT see happening with Brady on the team, btw).

Tough season. It's over. I think this will be one of the more interesting offseasons in recent memory, so we've got that to look forward to. Uncapped year coming with a LOT of holes to fill and garbage to take out (Get your bags packed Adalius Thomas & Laurence Maroney).

Re: Who was the biggest cause of the end of the dynasty??

I stipulate the end of the decade. Not quite there on the dynasty. Talk to me a year from now.

Re: Who was the biggest cause of the end of the dynasty??

I don't BUY your premise or your poll...Frankly all I have to say is BOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!

Re: Who was the biggest cause of the end of the dynasty??

End of the dynasty? We've made the playoffs for the last 10 seasons except for 2 seasons where we lost out on the last day of the season to tie breakers, one of those with a back-up QB. End of the dynasty is when we go 5-11 two seasons in a row and BB and Brady retire. I'll believe it when I see it.

:yeahthat:

Last time we went 5-11 was 2000, and posters are now saying it's all over. This despite a young, rookie defense that managed a top-five ranking despite non-existent pass-rushing.

Re: Who was the biggest cause of the end of the dynasty??

dynasties need to end so new ones can begin

the pats are in a good spot to continue to a playoff caliber team for a very long time. with or without brady

Re: Who was the biggest cause of the end of the dynasty??

Lets rephrase, there was opportunites, to win 2 more super bowls in the past decade, which was failed to do.... The Pats have one of the best QB's ever, a great Wr, and the best HC.. Maybee I should have said was the cause for not reaching potential the past 3 years... Ive been around for some bad teams, but its frustrating when they could have won more...

As Belichick said , "Stats are for losers"...

Re: Who was the biggest cause of the end of the dynasty??

This is why fans of other teams hate us so much. We complain about seasons that fans of most teams of this league wished their team would have. Seriously, over the last four years only Pittsburgh, Indy, and the Giants have had what I consider more success.

Yes, it sucks that we can this close to two more Super Bowls and failed, but people on this board talk about losing to the Colts in an AFC Championship game or the Giants Super Bowl like the Pats went 2-14. Yes, we got a little spoiled with the three Super Bowls in four years, but the fact of the matter is that no team in the Super Bowl era other than the 49ers kept their Super Bowl run going longer than 5-6 years.

As long as the Patriots have Belichick and Brady, the Pats have a shot to win again. But winning Super Bowls is not a birth rite of this team. I am tired of all this biatching about the last four years and "wasted opportunities" or complaining that the Pats aren't trying to give Brady the best team to win the Super Bowl every year he is still playing (I've got news for you people. If the Pats did what many suggest, Brady would have nothing around him in about 2 years time).

The first decade of this millenium was an awesome time to be a Patriots fan. Why not celebrate that the Pats went to half the AFC Championships of that decade, went to 2/5 of all the Super Bowls of the decade, and won 3 out of 10 of them? Why do we always have to focus on the negative. We are the only fans in the league that complain when our team goes to the Super Bowl.

Look at it this way, the Colts have had several future lock HOFers and a few more potential HOFers including Manning, Harrison, Wayne, Dallas Clark, Freeney, Tarik Glenn, and Jeff Saturday and as of right now, they have one Super Bowl to show for it. Yet, I don't hear Colts fans biatch nearly as much as we do.

From what I've seen, whenever someone says to be thankful for the Pats' success because most franchises would kill for it, someone else comes in and says "we aren't other franchises so don't compare us to them", which is a bunch of crap and makes Patriot fans look like spoiled, elitist idiots that can't appreciate anything but a Super Bowl win.

Re: Who was the biggest cause of the end of the dynasty??

It's not on there. The answer is HUBRIS. BB forget was one us the first 3 and tried to get cute and go another route.

Re: Who was the biggest cause of the end of the dynasty??

It makes sense. You lose a Super Bowl 2 years ago by 3 points and the following year lose the starting QB for the season and it's over.

The difference between titles and losses has been 3 points every time. If Adam misses the kick against the Rams and they get the ball in OT with the way the game was going, it's a loss. The Panthers were trading punches and ended up losing by 3. The Eagles had the ball and McNabb folded, losing by 3. No title was the product of a dominating win. While stats are for losers, perspective is for realists. Even in the best years, there is a degree of good fortune that gets a team to the promised land. If you have some picture in your head of the dominating machine that was past teams, lose the halo effect. There has been bad as well as good every single season since 2001.

And what were you saying in 2005 after the loss to the Donkeys? It's over? And you'd be right I guess because they only went to the conference championship game and the Super Bowl after that. Successful franchises compete for titles, they don't necessarily win them every year. If you have not figured that out yet, you may want to study the great teams in the history of the game, prove it for yourself, and get some perspective.

This team has plenty of offseason issues, much like every NFL team dealing with age, injury and contract issues. The hope is they identify the issues and properly address them, whether coaching or players.

Think about who posted this. What else do you expect him to post? A leopard doesn't change his stripes.

Re: Who was the biggest cause of the end of the dynasty??

I like where you're going with this, Sean,
Aren't you the guy who was upset we didn't keep grammatica and called our kicker Gost-Miss-Ski?

This prediction of yours and Seans are in the same percerptive vein.

Re: Who was the biggest cause of the end of the dynasty??

Champ Bailey.

Re: Who was the biggest cause of the end of the dynasty??

I think the choice not up there is the loss of Romeo Crennel. I think his loss hurt more than Weiss and he may have be able to coach up this defense if he were still around.

But that is only an assumption.

Why this pressing need to declare "the dynasty is over"? As far as I know, nobody has even defined what "dynasty" means for an NFL team. The Patriots haven't had a losing season since 2000 and have dominated the AFC East. I'd say these are still good times.

Re: Who was the biggest cause of the end of the dynasty??

Same thing that's caused the downfall of every other dynasty. Aging players, coaching staff getting raided, and we have a salary cap to deal with that they didn't. Instead of blaming a person/player, why don't you give credit to the Pats for still being in the mix, if anything they're BETTER than what other dynasties have sunk to by this time.
