ProFootballWeekly.com - Belichick not receiving much coaching resistance

Well, I didn't see it in so many words. Not happy to see in print what I've feared for a while, but happy to see BB's self awareness.

Contrary to some opinions, we haven't prospered with a group of home grown coaches. Our championships teams were dominated by three pros from the Parcells tree. Seems like Parcells delegated, or maybe challenged hi coaches to be individuals.

Besides that, there were don't rock the boat lifers like Scharneccia and Fears. Maybe BB the detail guy has been trying to micromanage and his coordinators have been rubber stamping.

Interesting.

This article should be a sticky. So many many have supported the coaching staff. He is the last paragraph from the article. The staff needs new experienced blood, especially on the offense.

"This is not to condemn Belichick's staff, but it is an interesting admission by the head coach that there might be an element of this going on in New England. And it's impossible to say whether this had anything to do with the Patriots' relative failures this season. But it wouldn't be surprising to see Belichick dip into his past with a former co-worker to add to the staff — or at least someone he knows will be willing to stand up to him — this offseason."

I'm just disappointed these things weren't addressed after the 2008 season. Why now all of a sudden? Letting Pees hang around was foolish--and I would be shocked if he's around next year. You can tell him Jessica Alba is male, and he'll agree with you and just go up to the press box and sip on his diet coke and keep playing his CBs, Meriweather, and Mayo 20 yds off the line of scrimmage

bb wants to build his staf like players...u can get a jim bates or domcapers for 1 yr but then you have to keep finding another one every year. its hard to replace good coaches and he has done the best he can i think

Why did the Pats have to get rid of Capers? They decided do keep Peas.

Why do people keep referencing this and ignore the obvious:

"And then there was a point in time where I would, whether it was Bill or — mostly Bill," he said. "There's a point in time where you reach a point or you have a relationship and you feel more comfortable saying things that you just wouldn't have said — even with that guy — a few years earlier."

Experience isn't just for players

Exactly! I agree 100%

Belichick has directly confronted a major issue that has limited the patriots in the past couple of years. He is one of the best coaches to have ever coached in the nfl. If this has been somewhat of a blind spot for him, it is a blind spot no longer. I fully expect some coaching additions.

his and BB's system dont match. he was offered a DC job and he took it. if they had made him DC , he would employed his system , had some sucess and gone elsewhere again as a HC which is what BB wants to avoid at least for short term .its like a graduation at patriots .you do your time and then move on instead of coming in and out for 1 yr and finding something else .

Interesting.

"Do your job" must apply to all.

I don't know why any such "admission" by words or deed should be a surprise to anyone.

Many have lost sight of the fact that what makes Belichick great isn't the lack of mistakes he makes... it's his willingness to move decisively to correct mistakes when he makes them.

If he drafts a player in the 3rd round and determines it was a mistake, he cuts them.

Any other coach or GM would keep that player on the roster out of hubris for making such a high pick. Not Belichick. Once drafted they're all the same... they either deserve a spot on the 53 man roster or they don't.

He doesn't view coaches any differently.

Agreed. BB makes mistakes, but I think one of his strengths is his willingness to reconsider and review everything, including himself. Very few people are willing to do that, and very few coaches especially.

I hope to see some additions, but I wouldn't be surprised if there's a re-organization. Maybe part of it is challenging some of the existing staff and pushing them. I wouldn't be surprised if we see only a few new faces.

BB may have hit the nail on the head about familiarity fostering the confidence to question authority, especially a legendary one. He says this about first joining Parcells:
Belichick spoke further about how gaining a level of respect with a coach such as Bill Parcells took time before he felt he could stand up to a Super Bowl-winning authority.

Just imagine how BB's new coaches feel about questioning The Man, The Myth, The Legend?

BB definitely misses that kind of input though, the critiquing. Everybody needs that no matter how genius you are. BB's so insightful, he's even talked about it with other "larger-than-life" coaches.

I wonder if Brady is experiencing any of that too? He used to call Charlie in the wee hours about plays and scheme ideas; I'm sure there were a few times Charlie told Tommy he was nuts, asked him wtf are you thinking with THAT scheme, etc. I wonder if he gets any of that critiquing now?

The Pats didn't get rid of Capers. He left on his own to join the Packers.

:)

Belichick knows every coach, avery cordinator and every position coach in the league. He will find the best fits if he recognizes the need.

Me, I don't have the names. I don't pay attention to the coordinators, coaches and position coaches of other teams.

Give me some names...
