The running game was pretty much Faulk on the inside draw. Where did the running game go? We played crappy, but was anyone else bewildered by the game plan?

They used the play action a number of times. On at least two occasions it caused the play to be slow-developing, allowed the rush to get to Brady, and forced one of the many throw-aways (or throw-downs) he had on the day.

You didn't happen to notice the inept playcalling that was occuring throughout the season? That's the only way I could see being bewildered by the "game plan".

Ever since the giants we have been exposed. Our offense isnt versatile as it once was during our superbowl years where we had WRS who could do more than one thing and we had a good running game. Although our schemes maybe complicated the offense is still vanilla. All we have is Moss who can do one thing really well (go deep) and welker who can do one thing real well (short yd gains). and we cant run well so play action is gone. So how do you beat us? BLITZ LIKE HELL and bracket moss. welker may get his but o well - this is why we havent had the same success.

Teams of old we have WRs who can go deep OR run the short route, we had RBS who could go for 1000 yards (antoine smith, dillon) so if you blitz you die and if you dont blitz you die. Not the case here anymore.

LoMo, Taylor and Morris had a grand total of 4 carries. I just can't get why such a departure.

Point taken.

They use play action at the worst times - 3rd and long. Also, no teams buys it when you rarely call running plays while under center.

playaction is kind of pointless when your o-line is playing like **** and you have no running game.

Play action works better when there is a reasonable expectation of a run. Baltimore being up 24-0 before the Pats had any chance to get some rhythm on offense really hurt the ability to run play action.

You can't sell the play action if you're not running well or are behind and passing a lot.

Yeah when you're down 24 points its tough to use play action when the defense can pretty much assume you're going to pass.

With that being said I would have liked the Pats to run the ball with Maroney, Morris and Taylor. There was still 3 quarters left, we didnt need to panic and go shotgun every play and run draws with Kevin Faulk all game long. Play calling was dismal, just like it was all season long. New OC, ASAP.

anyone who saw how green bay ran the ball down 21 pts would agree. but balt is different defense. lot of those blitz's brady missed welker to bail him out .

Yeah, they were terrible. I was sure they were going to use allot of two TE's with 2 backs at times. But, when faced with adversity, they went empty. This team , is patty cake soft on offense. You don't even have to run the ball well. You just need attempts. I don't count shotgun draws as rushing attempts they don't serve the same purpose. Running draws is an attempt to slow down the pash rush. Running the ball is designed to put people on their heals. Big difference.
