Today is certainly disappointing and the entire first page will eventually be covered in rage. So, for a change of pace I'll end the season on a positive note here and remind everyone that though the decade has now ended for the Pats, it was one of the greatest in NFL history.

New England Patriots (2000-2009)
3 Super Bowl Championships
4 AFC Championships
5 AFC Championship Appearances
Playoffs: 14-4 (.777)

7 AFC East Division Championships
7 Playoff Appearances
9 Winning Seasons
Regular Season: 112-48 (.700)

Also, some individual awards.

Pro-Bowl selections: 38 (All-Pro: 28)

AP Male Athlete of the Year: Tom Brady (2007)
NFL Coach of the Year: Bill Belichick (2003)
NFL Coach of the Year: Bill Belichick (2007)
NFL Comeback Player of the Year: Tom Brady (2009)
NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year: Jerod Mayo (2008)
NFL MVP: Tom Brady (2007)
NFL Offensive Player of the Year: Tom Brady (2007)
Super Bowl MVP: Tom Brady (2001)
Super Bowl MVP: Tom Brady (2003)
Super Bowl MVP: Deion Branch (2004)

As fans we were extremely blessed, respect to the entire organizaiton for an amazing 10 years.

Well said.

Great run guys....See you next season

Just like every year since 1974 -see ya next season :)

...Thanks, Disco, for helping us all keep it in perspective. Methinks a bunch of us got a bit spoiled over that decade. Even though it was an early exit, still better to be in this position than not (like last year).

Gotta admit, I cannot remember Brady playing this freakin' awful at this time of year. That, and receivers that can't catch. What a train wreck.

Anyway, now we can get that target off of our back and build up the weak spots on the team (pass rush, protection, receivers that can catch outside of Moss/Welker/Edelman). Edelman's a monster and plays 'the Patriot way', what a keeper...

Greetings,
Even though there were times this decade that frustrated me like crazy, at the beginning of this decade I would have never guessed this would have happened. I appreciate the Super Bowl's this team has won and the heart this team showed this decade.
Shalom,

I raise my beer in honour of my beloved Patriots, no team will ever accomplish 3 SuperBowls in 4 years.

It was a great decade. The Pats and Colts debate will go on. Without Spygate I think we own it. For people who think it really affected play I still think it's a losing argument to say the Colts were a better total 'football team.'

Nice post - imagine the New England Patriots rising to the heights of team of the decade, us old veterans would have never in a million years thought it possible.

Plus, we have a new decade to look forward to - BB & TB & co. are not done.

Good post and share the thoughts. What a decade with some lasting memories!

Cheers!

I have been a fan since I got hooked at the age of tweleve in 1976 - which to this day I say was the best Pats team I have ever seen. I went through some dark days...very dark days....I am blessed, as a fan, to have seen this decade. We will be competitive until Brady and BB decide to hang them up.

looks like ill be watching 3 games to glory till.....when?

It's been a hellava ride this decade. :D
(pssst, we ain't done yet in this new one)

In the past 6 years NE has ended the season in every conceivable manner.

Missed the playoffs (2008)
Lost wild card weekend (2009)
lost division weekend (2005)
lost the championship game (2006)
lost the superbowl(2007)
won the superbowl (2004)

Time to start the cycle anew.

Actually the decade doesnt end untill 2011

While this is true, this is not the popular usage. For example the 1990's clearly are ten years, with first being 1990 and the last being 1999. No one considers the year 2000 as part of the 1990's.

For football it is easy, the decade we are talking about is runs to Super Bowls from 2001 through 2010.

The decade ends on December 31, 2010. This coming season is part of the next decade since its playoffs and SB are in 2011.

Perhaps we should call the coming season the 2011 season, but that is another matter entirely.

Actually the decade doesnt end untill 2011

Comparison of the greatest teams by decade

Pittsburgh Steelers (1970-1979)
4 Super Bowl Championships

6 AFC Championship Appearances
Playoffs: 14-4 (.778)

7 AFC Central Division Championships
8 Playoff Appearances
8 Winning Seasons
Regular Season: 99-40-1 (.701)

San Francisco 49ers (1980-1989)
4 Super Bowl Championships
4 NFC Championships
5 NFC Championship Appearances
Playoffs: 13-4 (.765)

7 NFC West Division Champions
8 Playoff Appearances
8 Winning Seasons
Regular Season: 104-49 (.678)

Dallas Cowboys (1990-1999)
3 Super Bowl Championships
3 NFC Championships
4 NFC Championship Appearances
Playoffs: 12-5 (.701)

6 NFC East Division Championships
8 Playoff Appearances
7 Winning Seasons
Regular Season: 101-59 (.631)

New England Patriots (2000-2009)
3 Super Bowl Championships
4 AFC Championships
5 AFC Championship Appearances
Playoffs: 14-4 (.777)

7 AFC East Division Championships
7 Playoff Appearances
9 Winning Seasons
Regular Season: 112-48 (.700)

Only the Patriots were able to have winning seasons 9/10 years, very impressive.

I totally agree with this sentiment..who THOUGHT it possible..really given how up an down this team was..and the ups..NOT TOO far and the downs..some really horrible...YES a GREAT DECADE!!

Don't mean to split hairs, but the decade isn't quite over yet. 2010 is technically the end of this decade. We have accomplished a lot but I hope we can really close out the decade with a fourth Lombardi. Raise a glass to it, ************s!
