It was the big difference today. The entire Ravens' OL, Ngata, Suggs, Ray Rice, Johnson. They were all making plays for them. You compare it to our recent draft picks like Maroney, Merriweather, Mayo, and the ones that couldn't even get on the field. Flacco didnt' even need to throw today.

The talent drain and the mediocre draft classes brought in to help was really in the spotlight tonight against a team that has had good draft classes recently.

Dude, Mayo is a stud. I'd take him any day. It's just a little weird to think that they had Seau playing.

Re: Our recent draft picks vs the Raven's recent draft picks

the Patriots need to beef up their Personnel department it is so obvious..there has been a complete failure of bringing in great players

and no Mayo did not have a great year

He's a young player and needs other to perform around him.

Ray Lewis made a number of plays today, while Mayo had a hard time getting off blocks and missing on tackles.

Mayo is a solid player and could develop into a stud, but not right now.

Re: Our recent draft picks vs the Raven's recent draft picks

Stop this Mayo is a stud stuff.

He's a good player. Solid, young, and hopefully not plateaued, but he is not a world-beater. This guy has been totally over-valued on this board. Where are the big game changing plays by him, for that matter by anyone on this defense? A complete shadow of its former self.

I think the Dline needs to do a better job of keeping him clean. He will be a great player in this league.

Mayo had a really bad injury this year and may have never fully recovered. He was great his rookie season. Let's see what he does next year before we call him a bust.

When you loose Vrabel, Bruschi, Harrison, Seymour... Thats a big deal! Don't you guys have a boatload of picks next year? Maybe the thought was there that this was going to be a tough year?

Re: Our recent draft picks vs the Raven's recent draft picks

You cant recover to a Maroney -Meriweather Draft back2back . Its like Raiders picking McFadden and Haward Bey or Jets wit a Kicker and a TE in 1 round (Oh wait... BB does)

Can't really ever call a Defensive Rookie of the Year a bust, even if he is a one year wonder.

Re: Our recent draft picks vs the Raven's recent draft picks

Look at a replay of the first play of the game where Rice takes it 83 yards. Mayo gets completely held up and can;t get off his block. Rice goes right by him. He's good, maybe above average, but no more than that.

Re: Our recent draft picks vs the Raven's recent draft picks

Could take a while to turn this thing around

look at the Redskins...lots of money and bringing in boatloads of fancy free agents ahas done nothing

The best teams win through consistently excellent drafts

A dry spell is ahead

id be hard pressed to find a more important player to this defense (aside from wilfork) than mayo. He led the team in tackles, again, with almost 20+ more than the next player (meriweather). He has one other season to compare to this one. Shadow of his former self? check the stats and consider he was probably forced to come back early after the knee injury.

Not since he hurt his knee
Played soft since

Re: Our recent draft picks vs the Raven's recent draft picks

ironically Harbaugh just praised the Patriots drafting and said the Ravens model themselves after the way the Patriots draft

Not that anybody cares or likes Merrill Hodge on this board, but he exposed Mayo on NFL matchup and said Mayo is too late reacting to running plays. He's not a stud right now. He makes too many plays after the damage has already been done.

Exactly.

No one called him a bust. He is a solid player.

But for a lot of people with rose-colored glasses, they see this guy as an elite talent, which he isn't. Not yet anyways.

Really? Like BB said, stats are for losers.

Did you watch the game? He was a complete non-factor and the Ravens ran right at him!!

I was referring to the defense being a shadow of its former self.

Anyway, Mayo is supposed to lead the team in tackles as a MLB in this defense. The entire defense is designed to lock up blockers and flow the ball carrier to him. There's a major problem if he doesn't have high tackles. That stat doesn't mean anything if all his tackles are 4-5 yards down the field. Where are the tackles for loss, the forced/recovered fumbles, a pick now and then, maybe a sack. Is this too much to ask from a top 10 pick who is described as a beast on this board daily.

If he's hurt than that's one thing but this was a sophomore slump otherwise and does not bode well.
