Okay, the best way to get over our season being done is to start thinking about what we're going to do this offseason. We can address anything in here, from free agency, to Welker's recovery process, to potential trades, and even the draft, even though there's already a draft thread. So, let's get over the fact that our season is done, and focus on returning to the playoffs next season.

Re: The official Patriots offseason thread.

Jerry Hughes, Toby Gerhart, Golden Tate. That is all folks.

Re: The official Patriots offseason thread

We need to quit trading back and take players now.

I see 3 MAIN area that need to be addressed

1 Big needs are OL and someone who can block and push the defense a few yrds off the LOS. Finese doesn't cut it; we need power on the OL imo.

2 We all know we had no pass rush ; the question is how will BB addresss this?

3 New coaches...Its up to Kraft and BB to see if they were happy with them

Also...Resign Ghost and Vince and get rid of those who under performed like Adalius.

Re: The official Patriots offseason thread

Get a new OC
Draft WR/DE/OLB/OG day 1
Keep Wilfork/Mankins/Faulk at all costs
Keep Maroney/Bodden/Burgess at reasonable cost

we need Brandon Marshall and Julius Peppers...no cap this year, this team has no excuse if it doesn't go all-out in free agency...

Re: The official Patriots offseason thread

I'm excited to see how Edelman will develop having a whole off-season to develop with Brady...

I think you nailed it. All I will add is that the coaching was suspect all year, and that includes our resident "genius".

Re: The official Patriots offseason thread

I hope Bodden would stay for another year, doubtful, I'm sure some team will offer him a large enough contract.

Re: The official Patriots offseason thread

On the job training O'Brien needs to go, he belongs at Duke not here.

Re: The official Patriots offseason thread

I'm really intersted in Austen Lane from Murray State.

He's been dominating, but in DII schools.

But he does have comparible workout measurables to Demarcus Ware.

Re: The official Patriots offseason thread

Bye, O'Brien.... Sign a legit #2 WR.... look into finding a running back who we can trust out of ACTUAL RUNNING FORMATIONS.

Issues with this team and fixes

This Pats team was very inconsistent this year, and just not very good at points.

1) Moss and Welker need some help. Moss had a great 07 season because he was single covered a lot, now he usually isn't. Welker does good because of Moss and vice versa, but after that there is no one who can do much. Edelman showed us he can replace Welker while he rehabilitates, but we don't have any other threat. While Donte Stallworth didn't do much while he was here, he was a respectable receiver who could make a play. Sam Aiken, Isiah Stanback aren't useful guys. I'm not saying get a guy like Boldin or Marshall, but someone who is a decent WR, not a srub.

2) No running game. This offense is so unbalanced, and the running game is not very good. We need to draft a good RB who can bang the ball like a Ray Rice or MJD. This team needs some balance so that they can pass out of more formations than just the shotgun and work the play action. Not sure how this could be addressed this offseason.

3) No pass rush. This team just couldn't pressure the QB and that has been the story of the past two seasons. For one reason or another, no one can make a play. Julius Peppers would be a huge addition to this pass rush.

4) No pass rush = bad secondary. Meriweather had a good season as did Leigh Bodden, but there is no real playmaker on the back end, like a Harrison or Law. Shutdown corners are hard to find, but we had one and let him go. Can't do that again. Also, with a lack off pass rush, the secondary is more exposed.

5) No playmakers on defense. This defense has no playmakers, and it shows. When teams have playmakers, even the guys who are scrubs can make a play because people around them are making plays, we don't have that.

6) Minor issue, but Chris Hanson is a terrible punter. When we need a big boot he comes up lame, would like to see a guy with a bigger leg, but he will probably stay because he's the holder.

7) The Oline needs a few tweaks. Neal can't stay healthy, Kazcur is not very good although he did sign an extension. Vollmer is the future at LT and Light could move over to the right side.

Overall, I really think this team is just a few players away from being an elite team again. They have a lot of picks, an uncapped year, and some money to throw around.

My moves personally would be....

Re-sign Faulk
Re-sign Wilfork
Re-sign Bodden
Re-sign Gostkowski
Sign Tony Scheffler as a pass catching/blocking TE
Sign LenDale White as a goalline bruiser back
Sign Lee Evans as a 2nd/3rd WR when Welker is back
Sign Jason Taylor as a OLB
Trade for Julius Peppers to play DE/OLB hybrid
Sign Keith Bulluck to play MLB with some veteran leadership

QB Brady
RB Morris/Taylor/White
TE Scheffler/Baker
WR Moss/Edelman/Evans/Welker

DL Wilfork/Warren/Peppers
LB Mayo/Taylor/Banta-Cain/Bulluck
DB Bodden, Springs, Meriweather, McGowan/Sanders

Re: Issues with this team and fixes

I havn't been impressed with the safties to be honest.

But i agree with what you are saying.

Re: Issues with this team and fixes

the first thing the pats need to do is find an offensive coordinator. all personnel decisions on offense are only to be made once they have an OC in place

the defense needs to sign a free agent who can be a leader.

Re: Issues with this team and fixes

I think Lee Evans would be perfect here.

Re: Issues with this team and fixes

I will always bleed Patriot red and blue, but this is a major letdown. We all have our ideal 'fixes' but there are also 31 other teams trying to get better. Without looking at Miguel's page, how much money do we have for next year?

Re: Issues with this team and fixes

Jason Taylor? Child, please.

Re: The official Patriots offseason thread

Are you nuts? Do you pay attention to the NFL? Peppers has been to not play hard at times and doesn't show up in half of the games. You think we are frustrated with Moss, this guy takes the cake for inconsistent play.

Marshall though he is talented, is a straight out knucklehead and is a bad presence in the lockeroom. Giving him a long term deal at max dollars for someone you don't know who will be on the field every week? No thanks. We shouldn't be worried about getting a 8 million a year wide receiver anyway.

Not too mention that when there is a cap we would be hamstrung and possibly stuck with a couple loafs. No thank you.

Re: Issues with this team and fixes

Light struggle as a right tackle, BB said so himself. Could he move inside?

Re: Issues with this team and fixes

Hey everybody, why not start your own thread about fixes and what should be done. That way we will have a thousand new threads by the end of the day.

I think I'll take two weeks off this board and come back when the 'my points are so important I need my own thread' crew have got fed up and we can discuss things rationally.
