There was a play during the game during which it seemed that Pollard launched himself into the air and hit Hoyer pretty high. I say "seem" because I only saw the play once during the game and I haven't seen it since.

I believe it has something to do with the fact that Welker had a few steps after the ball went by before he got hit. I didn't see the Sanders hit, but that article describes it as a hit as Anderson was falling. As soon as Anderson hits the ground, he is no longer defenseless and it's a legal hit, if I understand the definition of a defenseless receiver correctly.

Watch the replay! There is NO difference between the two hits. If anything, Welker has taken MORE steps than Anderson before getting creamed. BS call on the league office.

God, this league is getting soft. I watched that replay on DVR a half dozen times and, at no point does Sanders lead with his helmet. He put his shoulder right between Anderson's shoulders. The hit was 100% clean.

Not only that, but there was no time for him to react to whether or not the ball was caught. Watched it several times on my HD DVR at the time. BOGUS call. Ridiculous fine.

GOD-dell and the NFL love to screw the Pats.........they all hate us......we get the pass interferences called against us....other teams do the same thing to us.....it gets allowed. Not being ridiculous here......watched it happen many times this year......and when I have watched the 2007 SB, which is very painful, the Gints OL is holding profusely on constant basis......not surprised that pats are taking the high hard one again on this case.....

If it was up to me, I wouldn't have called a penalty, but I can understand the call.

The thing is, Sanders is in a no-win situation there. There is no time for him to realize that the pass went through the receiver's hands. And he has to deliver a hit there. If he pulled up and it turned out the Texan's player actually caught the ball, we'd be ripping him and he'd probably be on the bench for the rest of the game.

As others have said, I just wish the officiating was more consistent with this stuff. Dawkins from the Broncos clearly speared Welker in the back earlier in the season, no penalty, no fine. The Sanders hit, he gets both.

Yeah, I think that was BS. If it had been helmet to helmet, which the ref very well could have seen at the time, then yeah, it's a penalty. But I only saw shoulder to helmet. But I guess the ref has to make that call in a split second, and I won't complain too much. Fine? WAAAAAAAAAAAY over the top...

Watching through that, the real highlight was Edelman 40 seconds in. OMG he's quick!

So, what is the defender supposed to do? Not hit him?

Is the defender not supposed to dislodge the ball?

He didn't hit him in the head, right?

He didn't jump in the air, right?

Do you realize that Clark's hit on Wes Welker last year was not a penalty? On that one, Clark both launched himself AND hit him long after the ball was passed him. I really don't think you want Sanders doing anything but what he did.
