By the way, if they worked things out with Branch, or at least got In Season value for him (i.e. another receiver that was better than bug eyes, gabrial or AARP brown, they would have held on against Indy and smoked chicago two weeks later.

there is also a term out there used in finance called 'time value of money'. it has relevance in the football world too when valuing an asset (i.e. player).

I can't recall that happening before. By "that" I mean one player replacing another player on the same team.

For you history buffs....is that a first? Even if not a first it must be pretty rare that a team would have two pro-bowl caliber players in the same position.

Every team has one or more fans who say they would have done this or done that if only this player or that player hadn't been hurt or hadn't been cut/traded, or this call or that play or whatever hadn't happened.

It's beyond lame.

If we had kept Brandon Mitchell instead of going for Steve Martin, we would have won the division in 2002 and gone on to the superbowl.

If the refs had correctly called Watson's strip as a fumble through the endzone would would have won the superbowl in 2005.

If we had kept Branch we would have won the superbowl in 2006.

If we had thrown screens in 2007 (or made any halftime adjustments) we'd be 19-0.

If Jabar Gafney makes that easy catch against the Colts we make the playoffs in 2008 and as hot as we were at teh end win the superbowl.

If we keep Jabar gaffney in 2009 instead of going for Galloway we get a bye in 2009 and win the superbowl.

Only 6 plays or personnel decisions have kept us from winning every superbowl this decade.

I get your point that you can't play the what-if game (I did for a bit after the 2007 SB and nearly went nuts), but it still is amazing to point out that was a pretty short list of pretty realistic occurrences that COULD have given us a SB shot in pretty much every year of this past decade. Most every other team, (maybe except for Indy????) has had some dreadful years where a very long list of different outcomes would have been required to have given them a shot at a SB.
Just a bit of a reflection on the positive side, I guess.
