Who are we backing?

Can't see passed the Tide myself, their D is too good and you'd imagine that they'll get enough out of the offense.

I don't much care who wins. I would note that the tide is 0-7-1 against Texas in their past meetings.

From Texas, interesting to see the performances of Shipley, Kindle and Muckelroy.

Hoping for an Alabama win, I've been a fan of this school since 1992. I like defense and Alabama seems to pride themselves on being good defensively.

Players to watch...

Alabama

Mark Ingram So
Julio Jones So
Trent Richardson Fr
Terrence Cody Sr
Rolando McClain Jr
Javier Arenas Sr
Marquis Johnson Sr

Texas

Colt McCoy Sr
Jordan Shipley Sr
Sergio Kindle Sr
Lamarr Houston Sr
Roddrick Muckelroy Sr

Mike Johnson - LG,- Alabama 78 is having a monster game. Dominated his DT on running plays. Looks like he would be a nice 2nd rounder for us.

After Musberger said Saban was running Belichick plays I guess I'm rooting for Alabama.

Some look familiar. Can you add positions?

There ya go.

There ya go.

Well, I guess my name's patsfaninpa.

Anyways, I was starting to get nervous in the second half. But the defense was able to hold strong despite a valiant effort by Texas and their backup quarterback. Alabama should be the odds-on favor in the pre-season rankings next season. And I believe Ingram will return.

Kindle had flashes, but i was rather underwhelmed with what I saw. Muckelroy stood out to me when he was on the field. That 'Bama LG looked like a manbeast at times...

So Jordan Shipley answers the question of whether he can play without McCoy, and does so emphatically. He's a huge part of that offense, and a very good player. Wes Welker MK II? Look at the way he cuts and turns. I'm not sure he's as fast right now, but given time in a pro S&C system, he could be an absolute terror under-neath.

I thought Muckelroy did himself absolutely no harm at all and probably out-shone McClain just a touch who seemed chippy and upset all game.

Kindle showed flashes in the passing game, but he seemed to be targeted in the run game. Still, solid.

Didn't get much chance to see Thomas, Mcelroy was awful and was eaten alive whenever he dropped back.

------------------------------------------------------

Arenas is propelling himself up draft boards, they wouldn't kick to him, and two nice picks.

Cody looked ridiculous when he was in there. They got nothing out of the run game all night long.

Was impressed by that Dareus kid. Nice read for the pick and displayed some moves on the run back. Not bad for a 280lb DE.

I had questions about Johnson, I didn't think he had the truly correct technique or mean streak in him to play LG in the pro's - wrong. He looked like Logan Mankins out there.

What can you say about Ingram? Outstanding vision and feet, he looked like a young LdT out there. He's going to go high when he comes out. Was very impressed by Richardson as well, he looks physically mature. Shades of Marion Barber with the way he was running. That run game of theirs is as good as a few NFL teams.

Missed a couple - enjoyed Peek's run blocking but his pass-blocking was so so.

Really like that Soph LB they have, Upshaw. He's been playing at OLB, but looks like he could maybe play inside.

Deaderick was impressive as well, but he'd need to add a few pounds to play 3-4 DE in the pro's.

I was really impressed by Shipley when he was working out of the slot and matched up on the safeties or Areanas.

OG Mike Johnson and OT Carpenter and TE Peek were animals in the running game, and Jones showed he could block as well. However Carpenter is miserable in pass protection and should move inside at the next level.

The goal line stand on the first drive was an awesome display of what Cody means to a run defense. Texas had to settle for a field goal. The same thing would have happened in the 4th Q except McClain jumped offside.

I am seeing more chatter that KC likes Cody more than McClain. This is going to be an interesting draft.

Deaderick looked strong at the POA. 6'4" 290, he could play 3-4 de. He'd prob. be available late.

Didn't Muckelroy get blasted back on run plays up the middle?

Also the play where AL ran for a 50 yard TD, Johnson's man was on a stunt and took himself out of the play, I believe.

I could hear you banging your head on your keyboard from up here. :)

Mk III, you mean. The Patriots already have Mk II. :D

I wasn't impressed with Cody as most of you were. He's just a big body in there who's good at stopping the run, but the NFL is a pass happy league. He can't play ST either. I wouldn't take him until round 3 as a goal line specialist even if that.
