A new offensive coordinator!!

As Charlie accepts his new job in Pioli's new organzation, I can hope that we will have as good a coordinator over the next few seasons as KC does.

I have seen coordinators come and go. I have seen all kinds of quality in game plans. I have seen many coaching staffs try to make up for weaknesses. I've seen success without receivers, success without a running, a AFC Championship with Tony Eason as our QB. For me, this day, I not recall a wider difference in so short a time as the difference between Charlie and Obrien.

Now that Weiss is off the market, do you have any suggestions?

Actually, I don't. If Belichick want to bring in an experienced QB coach or an OC or assistant OC, he knows the coaches better than anyone. He has brought in experienced coaches in the past including our current ST coach Obrien in 2009.

I don't like the idea of Obrien being acting OC and QB coach. I didn't like it whan Josh was in those roles.

It is NOT that Obrien is so horrible. After all, the offense generally played very well this eyar. Obrien is simply inexperienced and trying to perform at top level in two positions. IMHO, the patriots would have greatly benefitted from having one more exp[erienced head working on the game plans and most importantly in the half-time locker room and on the field in the second half. There were clearly second half breakdowns. Did we fail to adjust? Did we fail to adjsut to the other team's adjustments? Did we simply fail to call upon the plays that might have worked better in certain situations? Did we not know when to trust Brady to call all the plays and when to call plays form the sideline? I don't know the answer. My gut says that a full complement of coaches would have helped.

Should we just accept that we will lose a couple of games while we train up an OC who has 2 years of nfl experience and is expected to do two jobs?

HOWEVER, there is considerable danger in bringing in a high-profile OC who would want to change the system and make his imprint. I don't think the patriots need that. Certainly Brady, Moss, Welker and the well-coached OL don't need that.

One of things I would like to see is better personnel decisions in the off season. I believe the decision not to resign Gafney has really hurt there offense more than anything. Not only did they miss his 10-15 yard patterns he could also go deep. Endleman is at best a slot reciever but definetly next year recievers and pass rushers are the priority it has to be. I have already come to the conclusion that Wilfork will be franchised and then he will be gone in 2011 probably the same with Mankins. The players know if you want to get paid you have to go somewhere else which is fine with me but sooner or later there business model will catch up to them. In their system they can draft players to replace All pro and very good players in a pure business sense it's a great deal for these owners but there is a huge variable which athlete's aren't all the same so you have to consistantly draft well which I don't think we have done well the last four years. Brady is in his prime time to maximize.

I see disappointment in the future for folks shopping a new OC.

It's the same need we've had for the past 5 years...

Linebacker

Linebacker

LINEBACKER!!! :bricks:

I would as well but has BB ever fired any of his coaches before?

Gaffney had 38 catches all last season. He wanted way too much money for that production. The WR situationn was delat with in many ways.

Belichick shouldn't have counted on Tate and an injured Edelman (who is only a slot back in any case). We had two other viable options: Galloway and Lewis. Apparently our well-qualified OC, who was previously our WR coach, was unable to develop plays to use the skills of either of these players.

The system of allocation of funds does not catch up with you. It is a reality. There are not unlimited funds available. Any monies paid to one player are not paid to another.

So we need a new OC because Bill Belichick needs someone to run the offense. I laugh whenever i read these things. I'm sure Bill needs coaches as running a team is a huge chore. But on game day ... other than having eyes in the sky Bill doesn't need any of these people. to think that he does is nuts.

I guess we're even. I think that anyone who thinks that Belichick can be the GM, HC, OC, DC, run the offense, run the defense all the same time, and also call all the plays on gamed day is nuts.

Belichick is the best coach ever. That doesn't mean he can do it alone.

I was just tellling a co-worker today that the Pats best years were when they had the best coaches,,Weis, Crennel, a couple of guys who had been thru the wars. And they may have had some good younger coaches at the time, also.

The NFL is definitetly a coaches league, just rememeber the Pats of the eighties, Pete Carrol eras. Wanna go back to that??

I am also amazed at how much turnover our coaching, front office has had, seems like every team in the NFL wants a Patriot in their organization. Peyton Manning has had the some OC forever, and it seems he gets to throw to wide open WRs alot more frequently trhan any other QB. Off rant.

As far as #1 need , I think it's going to be D-line to get someone to replace Seymour as best as possible, I think their "order of want" goes DL, LB, OL, WR. I think BB wants to get back to that dominating front seven, yesterday.

A young talented pass rusher. Whether it be a defensive end or outside linebacker. Someone, anyone... New England needs serious help in this area of the defense. Because if you can get consistent pressure on the opposing team's quarter back in most games. You'll help out your secondary immensely.

Our biggest needs are RG, DE, OLB, and WR in my estimate. People tooting the "new coordinators" horn should remember that McDaniels sucked in his first year as well. O'Brien hasn't exactly set the world on fire, but he'll improve. He's called a great mix of run and pass this season. If Brady was himself and healthy throughout all 16 games, we wouldn't be calling for his head as much as we are.

I also believe New England needs help at inside linebacker. I've been thinking, would Tatupu become expendable since Hawthorne did well this season in his place? My logic is that Tatupu tends to get injured and Hawthorne is somewhat younger. Or could Hawthorne have trade value for Seattle.

Keep in mind that we're still not sure what we have in McKenzie...

The fact is that the Patriots are very frugal with regard to their
coaching staff. When they were here, Crennel and Weis were paid
less than their peers. Except for Scott O'Brien, when a positional
coach has gone to another team he has been replaced by a young
coaching assistant.

Don't some other teams have any many as 17 coaches on staff?

BB is such a control freak however, that having a lot of coaches around could be too many for him micro manage at the same time.

Clearly "trust" is hard to earn from BB; and once you have it, you only have to deal with being micro managed.

When Pees was brought in, he had experience.
