OT: Joshua Cribbs demands trade

Are you guys serious? Why wouldnt you want a player of his caliber if he can be had?

ST's ACE!!! WR and RB who can also take snaps from center.

How many of you love Kevin faulk again?

I'm glad you brought up Faulk. He's going to need a replacement soon.

Pats would be fools not to make an effort to acquire Josh Cribbs. I'm sure that they would contemplate this.

Well, if you want Cribbs, pray that Holmgren fires Ratgini, because I can't see Belichick making any deals with the Rat.

I'm not worried about Rat-man. All final decisions on personnel go through Holmgren now. I'm sure he'll try to salvage Cribbs anyway.

I do like how Cribbs has been improving offensively. Hes not close to the kind of receiver Faulk is but he ran the ball a few times and caught some passes. He had 6 TDs this past year. I guess he seems worth $3m a year?

You also have to remember what great QB has he had to work with? NONE.....Bring him in, give him a complete offseason with Brady and i am sure with his speed and athleticism he will be effective on offense.....Plus the kick return aspect is just SICK

Sure, as long as it's a package deal that includes Jerome Harrison.:D

I say go for it... with a big grain of salt. If you're able to nab him for a 3rd rounder, and can get him for around 2.5 per, that's probably good. Any more than that, and you're spending a lot on a fair number of unknowns:

1) Can he play consistent on offense? Remember, it's not only CAN he, but WOULD he in our system. Galloway, Hayes, Lewis, Gabriel... there's no guarantee even a more regular WR will catch on here.

2) How effective a returner is he really? Kick returns are as much about the blocking in front of you as it is about the returner's ability. No doubt he's got great speed, quickness, and vision, but how will it translate to our ST unit?

It would seem that BB's relationship with Mangini and the browns in general would make completing this trade difficult.

Cribbs is a dynamic player, but like others have mentioned, will he fit in this system? What will he bring to the table with the Patriots?

If it's just his return abilities, then 2.5 mil over 3 years and giving up a 2nd or 3rd rounder is too much. If he is able to run routes, stretch the field, can also be a wrinkle in the run game, and return kicks, then yes, do it. What helps him is that he is a former QB and unlike Hester, develops his offensive skills quicker then most. Not a knock against Hester who made the transition from return specialist to WR and a pretty darn good one.

But if the Browns put him up for trade, they are idiots. And there will be a couple of teams with younger or newer offenses where Cribbs might go and develop with that offense. Chiefs, Dolphins, Redskins, Texans, Packers, and Bears.

Oh, and greatest (and saddest) comment for a Browns fan:

Great he will going to another team and win the super bowl on a returned kick or punt. I have seen this before. Earnest Byner goes to the skins after the fumble, wins the Super Bowl. History of my favorite team.

BB and Holmgren have done business before- see Branch to Seattle.

I'm not aware of any discord b/t/w Holmgren and BB. They are both old school.

I wouldn't trade much for a returner no matter how good he is

He is far more than a returner - He might be one of the 10 best players in the entire league – Maybe top 5.

Saying that, yes I want him here - However, there is 1. No way we can pay him what he wants and 2. No way Cleveland trades him to the Patriots.

We pay Springs the same amount Cribbs is demanding and Springs hasn't been lights out by any means.

What makes you say Cleveland won't trade with us? Holmgren is the one in charge, not the owner, not the coach.

from

Josh Cribbs

55 touches for close to 400 yards. OK so the receptions aren't great.

But 39 returns over 20 yards with 3 td's. and one punt return td

The guy can see space. He can get through the cracks. I'm a certified admirer.

Brandon Tate will be one of the best special teamers in the league, and he is a way better WR

Holmgren is the head honcho now in cleveland, ratgini wont have much of a say when it comes to personal decisions.

3M a year for the best return man in the game today? Yes please. Will the Browns take a 3rd round pick for him?

Probably not a 3rd round pick, I think a 2nd will do it though since the Browns have so many holes to fill up and down the roster. And seeing how the Pats are in possession of 3 2nd round picks next year, I think for a 2nd round pick and the amount of money Cribbs is asking for makes it a very tempting deal.

This guy might be a great wr but they have noone to throw him the ball.

Hard to say.

Tate is gone. Two back to back knee injuries, think he's done. Nice waste of a 3rd round pick.

To add to what I posted above, he can't play WR, but yes he can do these things:
–*return kicks
–*run the wildcat
–*break tackles
–*cover punts

Now, I don't want us to be running the wildcat but for say a 4th round pick and 2.5M per year? Heck yeah, I'll take him.
