We have won 3 SB's and have a chance at a 4th in a decade.
We have 7 division titles this decade.
We have won at least 9 games in each of the last nine seasons.
We have the best organization in the NFL.
We have a relatively young team, with relatively few free agents.
We have extra draft choices in the next two drafts.
We have one of the top QB's ever to have played, and he wants to stay long-term.
We have no major controversies within the team or coaching staff.
We have a fine stadium and fine faciolities.
We have sold out every game since Kraft bought the team.
We are well set for the future.

and we like to complain

Amen to that sir.

We have the best coach in the NFL.

The glass is 7/8's full... we are lucky to be witnessing this run.

I'm guessing you're the glass half full type.

:D

But you do make a convincing argument

AND......We are better off than 31 other teams in the league with Brady and BB....

Go PATS!!

All that you say is true and, yes, Pats fans have witnessed a great run. Let's hope the Kraft family and BB are willing to pay out the money necessary to keep it going. Losing great players every year, though part of the game, can be devastating over the long run. Those who make these decisions have to be smarter in talent evaluation than those running the other 31 franchises, but they also have to be willing to pay it out when there's no reasonable alternative. Let's hope the Pats' talent evaluators get it right more often than not.

I think their track record to date has been pretty good and shows that they get it right more often than not.

mgteich, your threads are always inspiring and I've had a good feeling for the game all week and your post makes me wish it was sunday NOW...:singing:

Do not understand you comments, the Kraft family usually pay right up to the salary cap...

Evaluating college talent is a crap shoot, and have to consider that something like 23 of our 53 are udfa's....

I dunno. Having Al Davis or Dan Snyder as Patriots owners would make it an interesting ride.

Thanks. That's a nice way to start the day.

Who cares? All that matters is the next game.

How pumped are you for this game!!
I put ooooooooooooooooooooooooonnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn!

How about this one...

November 12th, 2006

That's the last time Tom Brady lost a home game.

We also have the most expensive tickets and parking of ALL teams! ... uh ... oops.

The only game that matters to me is the next one....but yeah, we did ok last decade...:)

Let me explain by example.

This year it seems the Pats skimped on the defensive backfield at a time when the game is transitioning quickly into more and more of a passing game.

Combined, Wheatley, Butler, Chung, Wilhite, Meriweather and Sanders have a salary of $2.475 million this year. Bodden earns $2.25 and Springs earns $1.75. Thats a total of $6.75 million for the Pats' entire defensive backfield.

To put that into a little perspective, Reveis earns $7.5, Samuel earns $10.0 and Champ Bailey earns $12 million.

Just seems to me the Pats value the DB position somewhat less than other teams, and this year in particular, this is hurting the Pats' overall success. While I think Samuel and Bailey are overvalued, I also think there is a middle ground somewhere.

BTW, the Pats are currently $3.2 million under the cap

Who would have thought this back in 2000? I would have NEVER guessed a decade like this in my wildest homeristic dreams. Drew Bledsoe had peaked early in his career and was only getting worse. Hard to see him ever taking us back to the Super Bowl. Terry Glenn looked like our only true talent on offense and wasn't even on the field half the time. No running threat let alone running game to speak of. The defense seemed okay with a talent base of Willie Mac/Bru/Ted Johnson/Law/Milloy but weren't nearly good enough to carry the team as they were in '96. Nobody knew what Belicheck was capable of, though I was always fond of Weis from his Jets days. It was truly a hopeless situation aside from the fact that this is a parity league and any team can make a run at any time.

So, your issue really isn't with the Kraft family not spending, it's with BB not using that money on the correct players and emphasis. Not saying you're right or wrong, but that's a VERY important distinction to make.

Also, 3.2 under the cap I think is pretty par for the course when you consider the flexibility it gives you through the season, and there are tricks to contracts that allow you to use the space at the end of the year that will ree up a little space next year, etc. I think anyway, someone better with the cap can say if I'm on the right track.

I am very grateful to have been able to watch the Pats this decade. They have been a great team, and back in 2001, when Boston had been devoid of any championships for more than 12 years, this really seemed to turn around Boston sports as a whole.
