What is the consensus on how far this team can go ? There are no wrong answers..

I think we win Sunday and that will be it.I will be sad when they lose but not disapointed because they are not the caliber of Colts or the Chargers IMO..

I think this week will be tough the weather is going to be real cold so running the ball will be key and if the Ravens get the running game going that could spell trouble for tha Pats..I still think we win I would be disapointed if we lose that game.

For some reason we can go to San Diego and win, hey that will be icing on the cake and by no means is it impossible to win either at the Chargers or at Indy it's just not likely..Thoughts

There was a poll on here last week which members voted on how far the Patriots would go,you might want to check that out - Divisional Round was the guess as to when the Patriots would fall out of the playoffs.

Re: Patriots Playoff Expectations..

I never have "expectations" for the playoffs. However, I do think this team CAN go all the way. I think we are on par with the elites of the NFL, and if we lose it will be a close game. There's not a single team in the NFL that we can't hang with, and it's pretty much been that way for the last decade.

As much as we like to sensationalize 03-04, neither of those teams went into the playoffs as a lock and they fought through tough games and battled for their Superbowls. It's the playoffs, and a lot of things need to go right for any team to win it. We certainly have as good a chance as any other team, so long as we have BB and Brady :D

I say their misery will end against the Chargers in the 2nd round.

I have no doubts that this team can get to the Superbowl and win it all. None. Nada. Zip.

That's not being a homer. that's looking objectively at everything in the p;layoffs. There is no reason to believe that the Patriots CAN'T win it all. The regular season is done. It's what it is. None of that matters now. No statistic, no ranking, no injury, no nothing. Every team is now equal. All start out 0:0 and it is what it is.

Whichever team wants the win the most will win that battle. The Patriots have as good a shot as anyone, and I fully expect them to win it all this year.

If we play our game (and that strongly depends on Brady and another receiver stepping up in Welker's place), we could go to the big dance. However, we haven't really played our game all season long. Going by what I've seen, I'd say we exit the playoffs in the divisional round in San Diego.

No one outside of the Patriots organization or fans will predict that the Pats will win it all.

Many give them a chance, however no one thinks they will.

The Patriots lack talent on both sides of the ball to compete for 60 minutes with the Colts or Chargers - The only hope is that teams turnover the ball often like it was in the January 1986 playoffs

I expect them to go far. It's a cliche, but it's a new season when the playoffs start. Whatever happened in the regular season means nothing now.

I think for once as fans we dont know what to expect from the Pats this postseason. Any of the possibilities would not surprise me. I could see us losing to the Ravens this week and then I could see us winning the SB. It all depends on what Patriots team shows up. If they play a complete and full game they can beat any team in the league.

I'm not overly optimistic. A better question for the board would be how would we all evaluate this team if it were the Colts instead of the Pats. Hall of fame quarterback who had an off year, 2nd half collapses, suspect D? I'd venture to guess many of the apologists would be brutal toward this team if it were the Colts.

If they saved their best football for January, they can go all the way. Welker's loss hurts BUT for the first time in a while we are fully healthy on both lines and Brady has had plenty warmup time. The playoffs are won in the trenches and even without Welker this team is equipped for playoff football.

You already have your answer. See the 2008 Colts.

I have said this to people and got laughed at but we can win it all..there have been alot worse teams to win it all(not saying we are a bad team by any means)we have Brady and Billichick and as long as they are there we have a shot at winning.I enjoy being somewhat of an underdog we are dangerous and the other teams know and they will dread playing us weither it is at Foxboro or anywhere else..

Wow.

If a year of misery is advancing to the 2nd round of the playoffs, what labels do you give to the 24 teams that don't get that far?

Pats 24, Ravens, 20
Pats 31, Chargers 28
Pats 30, Colts 27
Pats 31, Vikings 27

If if wrong, life goes on. If I'm right, its a helluva great ride.

I don’t agree. The 2008 Colts had at least 5 solid regular season wins: Vikings (10-6), Ravens (11-5), Patriots (11-5), Steelers (12-4), Titans (13-3) and also beat the Texans twice (8-8) and the Chargers (8-8). What are the Patriots good wins this year? I count two: Ravens (9-7) & Jests (9-7). You want to throw in the Falcons (9-7) and the Panthers (8-8) to make it four?

My point was more or less that that team didn't start out so hot, even going on a losing streak. They certainly didn't look like the Colts everybody was used to, and they got raked through the coals on this forum. Even when they went on the winning streak everyone still said they sucked.

That is telling as that team went 12-4 and had strung together plenty of what would be considered "solid" wins going into the post season. This team has not been as good as the 2008 Colts heading into the post season - but it is a new season now.

This year reminds me so much of the Reche Caldwell year. That year we had no receivers(really). This year we have 1. That year we were kind of "so-so".
This year about the same.

But with all that said, we were 1 first down, then 1 stop from beating Indy.(and we would have beaten Chicago in the Super Bowl.

So I think this team CAN get to the superbowl, but it is going to take a really clean mistake free effort for 3 games.

The difference is that year we had a much superior defense than the one that we have now. We had an experienced group on the defensive side of the ball that knew what it took to win a SB. This group probably isnt nearly as talented and doesnt have the experience that that group had.
