Per RealPatriots Twitter. Williams has been a frequent PS Player of the Week according to PFW in Progress.

Nick Moore and Robert Ortiz have also been officially signed to the practice squad, while Darnell Jenkins has gone on the Practice Squad/Injured list with an ankle/foot injury. That leaves one opening on the practice squad, once you factor in the promotion of Wendell last week.

Belichick rewards another Practice Squad player and continues to build the 80 man roster.

Who knows? I am expecting to see "Limited: Aiken, shoulder" in a few minutes.

Thomas Williams Scouting Report

Height & Weight: 6'3 - 235 lbs.
Drafted 5.20 in 2008 by JAX

2008 NFL Draft Prospect Scouting Report:
Thomas Williams, ILB, USC
Thomas Williams is a solid middle linebacking prospect out of Southern California. Don't overlook Williams just because he didn't start for the Trojans. After all, he sat behind three players that are potential first-round draft picks and likely could have started for most other teams in college football. Williams is a bit undersized for a middle linebacker in the NFL, but more than makes up for it with his non-stop motor. Although he may not have the power or speed of some of the players on Southern California's All-American stacked defense, Williams has shown excellent instincts and plays with a non-stop motor. Despite not being a starter for Southern California, he was still selected to the 2008 Hula Bowl and created quite a buzz with his play in Hawaii. He reads his keys quickly, rarely taking false steps. He is solid in pursuit and takes great angles. Scouts also took notice of the effort he showed on special teams, as he always seemed to be around the ball and showed the willingness to throw blocks in the return game. Williams will likely be a day two prospect and will contribute immediately on special teams.

Little info on Williams
College: Southern Cal
Height: 6-1 Weight: 238
Position: ILB
40 Time: 4.86 40 Low: 4.74 40 High: 4.94

Williams was selected 155th overall by the Jacksonville Jaguars in the 2008 NFL draft. Williams signed a four-year contract with the Jaguars that included $174,500 signing bonus to go along with the $1.7 million contract. He played in six games for the Jaguars in 2008, recording one tackle. Williams has been a disappointment thus far and is likely headed for the practice squad. The Jaguars were already deep at linebacker so he faced an uphill struggle as it was. He hasn’t shown enough to take a job away from one of the veterans and thus will need time on the practice squad to develop. He was waived on September 5, 2009.
If active he will play special teams that's about it..

He was a ST phenom at USC, nicknamed "hitman" by Pete Carroll. One would think he is being activated to help on ST, with maybe Sam Aiken hurting with injury or playing more on offense with Welker out.

Special teams is important, especially considering our return game hasn't been very explosive this year.

FWIW, only Welker and Connolly weren't at practice today, meaning Aiken was out there. But I did see him get injured on Sunday, on the Pollard INT. On PFW in Progress yesterday, Perillo said, according to a "sideline source," that it wasn't "anything serious."

Good to see. And Morris also was not listed despite limping off the field. Connolly was very effective as the FB against J'ville, so now it will be BJGE (who made a couple of good block for Taylor SUn) and Morris leading the way on short yardage situations.

So, this is one of the best injury reports ALL SEASON!

Well, besides that Mrs. Lincoln....

Re: Officially: Welker to IR, ILB Thomas Williams promoted, Darnell Jenkins to PS/Inj

the injury report is typical of BB every yr. Once in the postseason it dwindles down to only the obvious and potential serious ones instead of a 15 man laundry list in the regular season.

BJGE had a key block for that last Taylor TD. He is getting better at the lead block, but I think we really lost something when we lost Heath Evans because that man could think like a true RB and seemed to always stone the right player at the right time.

With Connolly injured, I guess Green-Ellis is our fullback.

This should maybe have its own thread, but I can't start one.
