Firstly....Welker has not be officially IRed..they could just keep him on the roster knowing he can not play..THAT is a possibility.. AND in any event..there is still an opening on teh Practice Squad...as when Wendell was moved up, that spot was not filled.
If/when Welker goes on IR, will they bring up Jenkins to the 53 as he's the only WR they gave....If they do that..what will they do with the two open spots on the Practice Squad? They could keep those open..or bring in some youngsters who could be given 10 contracts if they show something.
I am thinking maybe another WR to the PSquad...and maybe a linebacker...but who knows???

I think Jenkins would be the choice, since he's been learning the system. They're not going to throw smoeone in there for a playoff game who doesn't know the system. Some names people have mentioned - Troy, Caldwell, Bam, C.J. Jones - have all been away from the team/system/game for at least a year, in some cases more than two.

It's Tuesday night, and a move has yet to be made. That probably means that this is going to be a late-week PS callup thing. They're not going to sign an outside guy on the Wednesday before a Sunday playoff game.

I tend to agree...Jenkins on the move up..still a few hours left in the day..BUT...I see Jenkins in...and 2 others to the PSquiad...that may happen...time running out on a REAL FA addition...

Believe it or not but somebody I work with said they should bring in Marvin Harrison. I laughed in his face.

trade for Deion Branch

trade for Deion Branch

A) We're long past the trading deadline.

B) Branch will be cut by the Seahawks once they are able to in February. If we want him, we can't get him then. Doubt it though.

i was j.k.

I would guess that Belichick would only feel comfortable adding a special teamer at this point. I doubt he would be comfortable with anyone being able to fit into this offense at this point in season. Perhaps a TE that would allow Watson to split out some.

Would've been nice if we still had Nunn around in the practice squad.
Showed glimpses of talent during the preseason.

I agree Jenkins will get the call. He was a third down machine at the U if I remember correctly. Didn't have great speed but found a way to get open and with good enough speed. Another gutsy guy that isn't afraid to go over the middle and fights for yardage.

I'd give him a shot. Typical move by BB waiting to sign him to the active squad and waiting to IR Welker. Doesn't want to give away what the plans are.

My guess is whoever can contribute on special teams the best but Jenkins makes some sense...whoever it is most likely won't be active or part of the gameplans but then again I could be wrong :D

Bring back the magic!

can someone familiar with cap and other nfl rules explain what benefit, if any, there is in delaying putting Wes on IR?

No benefit but until he is put on IR the Patriots cannot replace his roster spot. So instead of 53 players they have 52 and a gimp.

Jenkins was wearing a boot on his foot yesterday according to the Herald. I'd cross him off the list.

No, there isn't any. They don't even pay the replacement player; the NFL does. For all intents and purposes, the cap number freezes after the end of the regular season.
