It turns out, last week, Polian told Manning he felt it necessary to address the team about what happened against the Jets. Polian must have sensed what the rest of us surmised (although he never will acknowledge as much): There were a lot of very angry players in that once-placid locker room, especially veterans who felt betrayed by management.

Manning told Polian this was a players' issue and he, not Polian, should talk to the troops. Polian agreed. Led by Manning, the players talked, hashed it out, spoke about moving forward and refocusing themselves on the larger goal. It might rate as one of Manning's most important decisions all year.

Have you Ever seen caldwell speak, i haven't. I've watched the colts twice this year, i don't recall ever seeing caldewell utter a word even over his headset. I've never seen a coach not say anything either to the players or the other coaches.

This is good...of 16 games, you watched two. Of those two, did you watch the entire game? In those games, how many times did the camera focus/show Caldwell?? Your right...he probably doesn't ssay a word all game. In fact, I heard he makes a game of it where he tries not to speak for the 60 minutes of clock time. Good one.

“First of all, personal milestones are important in that they play a vast role – perhaps too much of a role – in Hall of Fame, All-Decade teams, things of that nature,” Polian said Monday on his weekly radio show on 97.1 Hank FM in Indianapolis.

“So, for players and for posterity and for that player's individual ranking within posterity, it plays a role.

It seems like whenever Polian speaks on the topic, he just digs a deeper hole for himself.

This, I agree with. I am also torn by it. Had the team decide to play their starters 60 minutes in games 15 and 16, these guys would have gotten their "naturally" anyway. Blatently "going for it" in such an obvious manner makes the whole thing feel a little dirty. In the end, the results are the same as they would have been anyay, and maybe you have to credit the organization for just being hionest and not trying to hide it. After all...do we think it is just a coincidence that Brady ended with 50 TD's in '07, ONE MORE than the record of 49?? Seriously. Flip it, if Marino's number were 49, and Manning needed 50, don't you think that effort to get to 50 in game 16 in '05 would have been made??

This, I agree with. I am also torn by it. Had the team decided to play their starters 60 minutes in games 15 and 16, these guys would have gotten theirs "naturally" anyway. Blatently "going for it" in such an obvious manner makes the whole thing feel a little dirty. I've seen quite a few games (as in more than 7) from the Colts. I try to follow the Pats closest competition/rivals just as much as our team. I have never once seen Caldwell open his mouth, outside of postgame pressers where he's forced to. More than just Pats fans have noticed this as well.

Wayne and Clark are great players. On one hand you could say it's cool that Polian is looking out for their best interests by trying to help them reach a milestone that could help them immensely later on. But by going public and saying that was the team's intent, it counteracts that by drawing attention to the fact the team was trying to pad those player's stats. And that's a shame for those two guys, because (a) they would have hit those numbers anyways, (b) they don't need any help, and (c) now voters are more likely to scrutinize and question their numbers.

Polian is a stooge for saying he doesn't care about 16-0, a team accomplishment, but does care about personal stats.

I hope people don't project that on the players, who I think we all realize wanted the team accomplishments plenty.

That being said, ALL players will say they don't care about personal stats, but it's complete BS. They all do.

Anyone who wants to point to the Colts and criticize that should think back to the 07 season and remember how obvious it was that Brady and Moss were going for the single season records. Which is completely fine. The difference is, they also went for the 16-0. Something Polian took away from his players and that they may never have a chance to get back.

Polian might be a fantastic football executive, but for all this and the way hes been running his mouth, hes also unquestionably a stooge.

I think it was pretty dumb for Polian to mock 16-0 as an unimportant milestone and then try to explain how important personal milestones are. If I was a colts fan, I would not be happy with this. And unsurprisingly, most from what I see feel the same way. If the colts do not win the championship this year, they will be absolutely skewered by their fans.

I don't know that voters will hold those few last game set up catches against them. What voters are we talking about anyway?? HOF voters? Each has a ways to go before any serious consideration. As a Colt fan, I would have much rather seen these guys play an extra series or two against the Jets (and win the game), and then just play a single series at Buffalo (to maybe get that last catch or two that either might have needed) and then sit (and lose and go 15-1).

I would have been able to stomach these last two weeks much more easily under this scenario.

Finally....the exemption to all this was Marvin's last game last year. Colts fed him the ball to ensure he got to #2 all time in catches. Although there was a chance he'd play again this year...Colts were aware enough to make certain he got to that milestone...which I think he earned and deserved...regardless of how he came by the last few catches.
