So being a 3rd seed is now meaningless?

If the 3rd and 4th seed end up in the AFCCG, the 3rd seed would host that game. Why is that meaningless?

In 06, the Colts (3rd) hosted us (4th) and we lost the game.

Also, isn't Brady undefeated at home in the playoffs?

Can we still get the 3rd seed if the Bengals lose?

Wilcots says we can still keep the 3rd seed but Cincy has to lose and some other things have to happen also (forget what they are).

If the Bengals lose, the strength of schedule tie-breaker will come into play, but that won't be finalized until all of the games are played.

I think the way things are set up, the 3rd seed is meaningless. I'd rather play the Colts than the Chargers in the second round, assuming we can win a playoff game. Of course this could come back to haunt us if the Bengals manage to upset the Chargers and get to host the AFCCG.

Who cares if the Patriots get the 3rd or 4th seed? With Welker

gone, the Patriots will probably lose the wildcard game. This

would save the Patriots from a blowout on the road.

I just don't see how the 3rd seed is meaningless if it means that we could host the AFCCG if the 3rd and 4th seed advances.

Any team can beat any team in the playoffs. I feel like we lost an opportunity to put us in a better situation to advance.

This of course ignores the general judgement that Cinci has a much better chance to beat SD than they have to beat INDY.

I think Cincy has just as good shot to beat Indy as well. They have a great running game, good passing game, a QB that is very good, a good scheme on defense with two corners that are very good. They've got the best running game going into the playoffs (except for the Jets, who might not make it in).

Belichick likely agrees with you. Otherwise taking the injury risks he did would not seem warranted.

At this point, I would take my chances against the Colts....Honestly, they are not as good as their record...But I just can't see Phillip Rivers leading any team to the SB.....

I think the cross country road trip is better for the AFCCG rather than the divisional. If the Pats play SD and miraculously beat the Chargers in the divisional, they would fly back to NE all jet-lagged and then have to fly out to Indy and beat the Colts? I'd rather have the Pats play the Colts first which is a shorter trip and then play at SD and then hopefully chill out before Miami. But this is all pipe dreams at this point. This defense has serious issues man.

LMAO! Ben Roethlisberger and Eli Manning both won super bowls and Rivers is better than both of them. Rivers can and will lead the Chargers to a super bowl this season; he's a top 3 QB in this league and has proven countless times that he's tough enough to get the job done. Did you forget that he played in the AFCC game a few years back with a torn ACL? That's a real leader.

I think we can still get the three seed if the Bengals lose. On the Oakland/Baltimore game Jim Nantz incorrectly pointed out that Baltimore automatically plays at NE next week if they win because the Bengals have the three seed clinched. Not so if the Bengals lose. With Carolina and Buffalo winning, this clinches strength of victory for the Patriots over the Bengals, but that will happen only if the Bengals lose to the Jets, which they in all likelihood will. Both losses would be conference losses, and common games would not be affected.

I was thinking about Rivers playing after having a surgical procedure a week before playing the Pats...But, he is not in the same class as Brady, Manning, Roethlisberger and I think you can add Brees to that list...QB's that are at another level...Rivers has heart...not sure if he has the head to lead a team to a championship.

Rivers has much better stats than Roethlisberger, who is a mental midget. Roethlisberger road off of a good defense to win those super bowls, whereas without Rivers the Chargers are nothing as now we've transformed into a passing team. You think that Rivers can't win a super bowl even though guys like Trent Dilfer and Brad Johnson have won a super bowl this past decade?

I absolutely think Rivers can win a Super Bowl. Norv Turner is another story...

Exactly. I think a dark cloud similar to the one that haunts Wade follows the Norval around.

Ok, at least that makes sense. I'm also not 100% sold on Norv Turner yet; if he leads the Chargers to the super bowl this year and wins it, then I'll give him props; until then he's still an average at best coach. I think the talent that the Chargers have is enough to get us a championship, regardless of who the coach is.

You're thinking it's a Barry Switzer kind of situation huh?

Yup. We're smooth sailing towards a super bowl; Norv just needs to not rock the boat. It's the same with Jim Caldwell; he inherited a great team with a proven system still in place; all he had to do was not tamper with it and so far he's done just that; leaving everything about the offense to Tom Moore and Peyton Manning.

We shall see. I, personally, really hope we meet you guys and BB does something that makes Norv "rock the boat".
