Re: 98.5 The Sports Hub: Welker has torn ACL

Worst case, PUP, unless there's setbacks in rehab. Braylon Edwards tore his a few years ago the last week of the season and played in the following preseason.

You really think there's not a decent chance he gets ir'ed next year? I don't know anything about it, but hearing that from a pretty solid poster makes me feel a little better.

Until something is confirmed I won't take it as anything other than rumor.

Looking it up, Edwards tore his ACL a month before this but he returned for preseason. Deion Branch tore his two weeks later than this and was PUPed.

So . . . yes, I think there's a very good chance he will NOT be IRed. Although re-examining the Edwards timeline, being PUPed seems more likely than I thought although sports medicine gets better every year.

fol...two years in a row with this ****.

Re: 98.5 The Sports Hub: Welker has torn ACL

Tanguay at top of hour (6 PM): "Sources tell us that Wes Welker is gone. ACL blown out on that play, freaky cut on that turf."

Re: 98.5 The Sports Hub: Welker has torn ACL

you got of wonder if Wes just got worn out this season. Big Heart in a little body

Surgery in 7-10 days - then back to football in 6 months.

IF it's an ACL, and depending on if/when Welker has surgery, the clock starts at 6 months Post Op. But every person is different. And it also depends on whether there is any meniscus damage.

Re: 98.5 The Sports Hub: Welker has torn ACL

Didn't Brandon Tate suffer an ACL injury? Or was his much worse than what Wes possibly has?

Re: 98.5 The Sports Hub: Welker has torn ACL

depends on what the MRI says. at least it's not a full reconstruction. Welker is young at 29 in May. He will bounce back. It stinks that we don't have him for the playoffs but we won the super bowl with Patten, Brown and such.
Yes but we had a defense that didn't surrender 2 touchdown leads (or more) in the 4th quarter and special teams that created short fields.

Re: 98.5 The Sports Hub: Welker has torn ACL

Don't forget about Carson Palmer, his injury looked much worse, and happened in the playoffs. I think he returned in time for the next season.

Entirely different position. Palmer doesn't have to cut in and out of routes the way Welker does.

Good point, all we can do is hope he heals up quickly and is able to play at some point next season.

Re: 98.5 The Sports Hub: Welker has torn ACL

Sorry to hear it for Welker. I doubt he will miss the entire season next year. He might be PUPed or he could be out there in training camp. An ACL tear is not nearly the injury it was 10 years ago or even 5 years ago. With no setbacks, it is a 6-9 month recovery time these days. I saw a study by the Sports Science for Health Medical Journal that says professional soccer players return from ACL surgery 4-6 months after the surgery. I know it isn't a football WR, but you gotta assume a similar recovery time.

SpringerLink - Journal Article

This journal says that the return rate is between 7 and 18 months depending on the method of surgery and damage. It also said 68% of the players studied returned to their pre-injury level near immediately.

He HAS to get all teh way back. Is there anything our FO does worse than find WRs?

Re: 98.5 The Sports Hub: Welker has torn ACL

It always seems like the Patriots have more serious injuries to star players than any other team. They probably don't in reality, but that is what it feels like.

Let's not go overboard. The Pats have found some pretty good WRs during the Belichick era including Welker, Moss, Branch, Givens, Gaffney, and possibly Edelman. They have been hit or miss, but they have had a decent amount of hits.

Find linebackers and cornerbacks.

Re: 98.5 The Sports Hub: Welker has torn ACL

At least edelman played pretty well afterwards. Still this just sucks, and welker is my favorite player to watch. I hope he can recover
