Welker Leaves Game With Knee Injury

Just spoke to my brother (Head Ath. trainer at state college). He said after looking at it a few times (tivo'd) that it looks like ACL, potentially MCL, and meniscus.
This sucks! I sure hope he is wrong.:(

It's such bad news, but I'm not going to give up hope. Until someone from the Pats says Welker is out for the season, I'll hold out irrational hope. On the other hand, if he is out, then I think this could be Edelman's year. An untested Tom Brady came through for us in 2002; maybe we'll see the same from Edelman.

I'll share in your irrational hope.

I dvr'd the play............Welker's knee gave out before the hit.It looked to me to be a sprain or a hyperextension.Just bad luck...........what a warrior this kid is.

Definately a huge loss if he can't make it back. We still have a good set of targets in Moss/Edelman/Watson/Faulk and hopefully Aiken can step his game up too. Everyone will have to elevate their games somewhat to make up for this loss.

Note to Ian: why not rename this thread the "Official Welker Update Thread?" That way we'll have a place to come as information becomes available.

Either that or the prerequisite.."Ain't it awful thread".

No doubt about it he's done. Edleman is going to have to rise up. I mean it's not like we really expected the Patriots to do much in the post season anyhow. I figured to see a divisional round exit.
I wouldn't rule the Patriots out yet. First, it may not be as serious as it looks. Second, if it is and Welker is done for the season, the Patriots beat the Chargers in the divisional round, and almost beat the Patriots in the AFCCG, in '07 with Caldwell, Gaffney and Brown at wide receiver. Moss, with anyone else, is at least as good as those guys. We'll see.

Here's hoping it's just a bad sprain. At least Edelman's stepped up

Welker is in the bay all hooked up and his avatar is running his routes, never fear

The sad irony in all of this is that Pollard was the guy in coverage making the hit....remember him from last year folks? Now the cut looked to be what did it to welker, it's just odd that Pollard was the guy again!
Except Welker hurt it making the cut.

Now the hit to Hoyer where Pollard launched himself? That was dirtbag.

If its a bad sprian, still absolutely no chance we see him back until the SB at the earliest. Any injury to the knee is serious and he could brely walk on it. ****!!!!!!!!!!!!!

spygate,SB loss, Brady hurt, Welker hurt....why do the football gods hate us?

A huge, unmitigated, absolute disaster. He's not gonna be crying unless he's done, and not having Welker is HUGE. I was of the mind this team was at a point where they were getting to the Super Bowl, and this totally derails that. It sucks and it stinks and it sucks and it sucks.

that was a douche bag move. I really hate that guy, he didn't hurt Welker with a hit but he was there when it happened.

Didn't Harrison go down against Tenn in a meaningless game too? This horrendous bad luck gives that gutless Polian something to point to as well.

It's pretty obvious Wes is done for the playoffs. It's too bad really because there was ZERO reason Wes needed to play today. That little guy takes a pounding all year long and no doubt a day off would have been very benificial for him heading into the playoffs. Same for Moss who we've been told has had a bad back and same for Tom Brady who's had numerous injuries. Why Belichick refuses to protect his key players is beyond me. Just ridiculous!!! Can someone/anyone tell me what the point of playing Tom Brady for a quarter and a 1/2 was??

Not after you see him leave his feet and attempt a cheapshot at Brian Hoyer.

Obviously he didn't hurt Welker, but makes you wonder about last year after seeing what he did to Hoyer.

Is there really a 0% likelihood that Welker's injury is something less than an MCL? I know it doesn't look good, but then again remember in '08 when Bruschi suffered a bad knee injury and was back in a week or two? When we learned he was called Gumby?

well geez isnt it easy to call it a bad move in hindsight. Pats played a great game against Jax and wanted to keep it going. Don't be one to say it was a terrible call after the fact, because I'm sure you werent pounding your fists at it.

I think you're overreacting. I love Welker as a football player and a Patriot. However this is a team sport. And perhaps Edelman will step up his game. The Tight ends have certainly been more involved.

the steelers will prob offer him a contract

I'm guessing ACL by the way it buckled.
