Will Adalius Thomas be a Patriot six months from now?

I want to see where people stand on this now, versus in the immediate aftermath of the snowstorm incident.

Also, I'm not drawing a distinction between being cut or getting traded; either way, he'd no longer be a Patriot.

however, it seems the last two weeks hes elevated his play...so now im waiting to see what comes of it and if he can find some sort of consistency

In watching a few of his games, I'm not too certain whether this player is giving his all anymore. Honestly, when you fail to block David Garrard as an OLB you've got some issues.

F. too early to tell... one of the problems with this D is the reliance on Stats, in reality we do not know what his assignment has been and what BB expected of him.. recently he has seemed more visible.

How much of his $20 million in guaranteed money was a signing bonus? If there is any guaranteed money left to be paid out on his contract, would that responsibility be transfered to a trade partner in the event of a trade? If there is any guaranteed money left to be paid out, how much is left? What comes off the cap if he is cut/traded? Barring gross misconduct on AD's part, I think this is a 'value' decision that the bean counters will need to give the OK on.

Trade him to the Giants for Osi Umenyiora in a swap of malcontents. The contracts would essentially cancel out. Both guys have underperformed but are talented, and could benefit from a change of scene. The Pats need pass rushers more than the Giants, and the Giants desperately need LBs. Thomas is much more talented than anyone the Giants have at LB, and could do well playing behind their killer DL. Each team would get rid of an underperforming problem player and fill a need.

I think they will trade him for whatever they can get.
He has not performed well for us and its not a good locker room player.
I would be surprised if BB brought him back.

I really doubt he will be on this team next year. Belichick can't keep a malcontent on his roster especially when he is underperforming.

Also all the talk about dead money is irrelevant.

• If there is no CBA, that money doesn't exist at all.
• If there is a new CBA, cutting him might give the Pats a decent amount of cap space. According to Miguel's site, his cap hit next year is $9.4 million and his remaining dead money will be $8.8 million. Assuming the new CBA will allow teams to spread dead money over two season for cut players like the current CBA, the Pats will free up $5 million in cap space by cutting him. In 2011, Thomas has a $10.4 million cap hit and that move would free up $6 million in cap space that year.

I can't see the Pats keeping Thomas on the books with a $9.4 million cap hit especially when they could sign a more productive and more of a team player with the $5 million they would save by cutting or trading him. Assuming Miguel's future cap hits and cap esptimates for next year are up to date and correct, that will give the Pats $50 million of cap space to fix the problems from this year. I can see the Pats making an effort to sign two good pass rushers with that money.

You know you wonder why all these 'completely common sense' types of trades never seem to get done. Osi would be a huge pick up for us

Going completely off the deep end here but Thomas' agent is "Bus" Cook- who also represents Favre and Cutler (and Moss). He is the master at getting his clients to shoot their way out of town.

It could go both ways with AD. If AD and Cook think that the market will be substantial for his services, then he may want to get cut. If they think that it'll be light, then he may request that the Pats trade him and he'll renegotiate his deal with his new team. All depends on how the CBA turns out I guess.

Either way I agree. I just don't see AD staying by his choice or the Pats'. Production has just not been there relative to his contract. Maybe BB and he can get on the same page but form what I've read that ship may have sailed...

He hasn't played that well.

He was 29 when he signed the deal. He came off an All-Pro season. BB has a long track record of getting good production out of OLBs in their early 30s. There was nothing questionable about it. Everyone loved the move. Everyone. Including BB. Since he broke his arm, no question that he been a disappointment.

He turned thirty the July before he played a down. Our linebacking corps was already old.

Spin it any way you want, it was a fairly questionable move on a team that was soon to retire it's entire linebacking corps, given the alternative of acquiring someone to learn from the vets who would just be coming into their prime now.

Hindsight is 20 20 obviously, but this was my thought at the time. Had he turned into a great player and leader, I would say I was wrong.

Tricky move trying to hand off leadership like a baton in a relay race. Harrison yes, AD no, apparently.

I checked and I did question AD's acquisition it at the time, though I remained optimistic. Not like I don't admit I'm wrong. I said TBC was a scum sucking rodent who would never be anything but a fill in at best. I've been doing the Wayne's World "I am not worthy" on that one for a while, and very happy to.
