Re: Your favorite Patriots play of the decade - One on Offense, Defense, Special Team

All of my favorites are from Super Bowl 36.

Offense: Brady to Patten TD pass.

Defense: Law pick-six of Warner.

ST: Vinatieri game winning FG.

Re: Your favorite Patriots play of the decade - One on Offense, Defense, Special Team

My favorite play is the next one.

Re: Your favorite Patriots play of the decade - One on Offense, Defense, Special Team

Very good question. I don't know if I can come up with individuals.

On offense:

  • TFB's "Statue of Liberty" TD to Welker against the Jaguars in the 2007 playoffs
  • The "Shut up Anthony Smith" TD (Brady to Moss to Brady to Gaffney) against the Steelers in 2007
  • Vrabel's "wrapped up in Eagle" TD catch in SB XXXIX.

On defense:

  • Bruschi's "Snow Game" INT.
  • The goal line stand against Indianapolis in 2003.

On special teams:

  • Vinatieri's TD to Troy Brown against the Rams in 2004.
  • Flutie's drop kick against the Dolphins.
  • Vrabel's onside-kick recovery to win the game against the Giants in 2004.

Offense: 2001 vs the Dolphins, Kevin Faulk throws a 23 Yard Pass to Tom Brady. I'd never seen a QB catch a pass before.

Runner Up: 2005 Divisional Playoff vs the Donkeys, Ben Watson running from one corner of the field to the other to knock Champ Bailey out of bounds. Even though the play was not called a touchback as it should have been that's not Ben's fault.

YouTube - Ben Watson Tackle

Defence: Bruschi's Interception of Jay Fiedler for a TD and the subsequent snow throwing.

Runner Up: Troy Brown's first INT.

Special Teams:Vinatieri throwing a TD against the Rams.

Runner Up: Troy Brown's Punt Return TD against the Stealers in 2001.

Edit: The Pats should poll fans for their favorite plays of the decade and then put the tops ones in a DVD.

Great question, and to do it justice I'd probably have to go back and watch some DVDs - there have been so many great ones. But without doing that

Offense: Brady to Moss 50th
Defense: Ty Law Interception vs Rams in SB
ST: Troy Brown punt return vs Steelers AFCG

Re: Your favorite Patriots play of the decade - One on Offense, Defense, Special Team

Offense: Brady's 60 yard TD bomb to Branch in the 2004 AFCCG against Pittsburgh. In the anticipated showdown of 14-2 defending champ NE and 15-1 Pittsburgh, that play totally took the crowd out of the game, and deflated the Steelers.

Defense: Adalius Thomas' sack of Brett Favre. Not the biggest defensive play we've had, but none ever gave me more pleasure. It was the way AD threw Favre and Leon Washington around like rag dolls, and the look on Favre's face.

Special Teams: The blocked 33 yard field goal attempt by Pittsburgh in the 2001 AFCCG, which Troy Brown recovered and lateraled to Antwan Harris, who went all the way for a TD. Put the Pats up 21-3 and put a knife into the Steelers.

Honorable Mention: Already discussed in this thread, two of my favorite plays of the decade were defensive plays by offensive players: Troy Brown's strip of Marlon McCree in the 2006 divisional game against San Diego, and Ben Watson running down Champ Bailey after the Brady INT against Denver in the 2005 divisional game.

Re: Your favorite Patriots play of the decade - One on Offense, Defense, Special Team

My favorite play is the next one.

what if the next one is a pick six by Brady?

Anyway,

Offense: 2004 against the Seahawks? In a close game, Corey Dillon breaks free for a huge gain while barreling over several defenders...

Defense: Rodney Harrison game clinching pick vs. Jags in 07 playoffs, followed by Samuel pick six of Manning in 2006 AFCCC (despite loss)...

Special Teams: Ellis Hobbs record-breaking kick return week 1 2007, tied with both game winning Super bowl kicks...

Re: Your favorite Patriots play of the decade - One on Offense, Defense, Special Team

Offense:

-2007 Steelers screen pass to Moss, back to Brady, down to Gaffney

Defense:

-Ty Law INT of Kurt Warner in the SB

Special Teams:

-Blocked FG against Steelers, lateralled to Antwan Harris for TD

Re: Your favorite Patriots play of the decade - One on Offense, Defense, Special Team

Favorite Offensive play - 2003 - OT in Miami (after Miami misses 2 pretty makeable FGs on a dirt surface, then the Pats intercept Jay Fiedler) Brady to Troy Brown for about 60 yds. Cartwheels around the room. My favorite Pats play of all time.

Runner up - Brady to Branch in Pittsburgh during the 2004 AFCCG for an early 50 yd. td that silences the stadium and sets the tone for the blow out win.

Favorite Defensive play - Willie McGinest fakes an injury to get an unscheduled time out then stuffs Edjerrin James on the one two plays later when (he says) he saw Peytie Pie tap his @$$ and he knew that was the signal for a hand-off to James.

Runner up - Ty Law intercepts Peyton Manning 3 times in the 2003 AFCCG

Favorite special teams play - Pats block FG in Pittsburgh, Troy Brown laterals to Antwan Harris. TD against those !@#@#!@s in the 2001 AFCCG.

Thanks for the thread - look at all the great plays we've gotten to witness over the last 10 years!!

Here's to hoping we can make a few more before the season is out!!

.

I don't remember that. That would be funny to see. Highlight anywhere on the internet?

Re: Your favorite Patriots play of the decade - One on Offense, Defense, Special Team

Offense
2007 season - Tom Brady's 65-yard bomb to Randy Moss to simultaneously break the passing and receiving touchdowns record, and give the Patriots the lead for good in Week 17 against the Giants, capping the only 16-0 regular season in NFL history.

The only pats game ive been able to see live (live in western canada was down in montreal for holidays drove 5 hours to get tickets)

Feel truely blessed i was able to witness that play and game such a magical moment that will never be forgotten

I will go to my grave believing that was a touchback, a play that would have changed the complexion of the game, and possibly the fate of that season for the Patriots. And that the referee robbed that from us. Absolutely a touchback. Hell of an effort by Watson, and I'm always grateful for that.

Indeed. Of all the calls that have gone against the Patriots, that one absolutely hurt the most, because it wasted such an unbelievable effort, and also because we were dead at 17-6.

Yeah, if you look on his stats on NFL.com under receiving it shows it.

Tom Brady: Career Stats

I think the video of it is on one of the Pats DVDs, can someone help me out with that? I've never seen it on the net though, I wish it were.

Re: Your favorite Patriots play of the decade - One on Offense, Defense, Special Team

My favorite play is the next one.

A run up the middle for no gain?

Re: Your favorite Patriots play of the decade - One on Offense, Defense, Special Team

Offense:
--Brady's spiking of the ball before Adam's winning FG in SB XXXVI. He walked up to the line like it was pre-season. It was just around then that John Madden said of the Pats drive (after he had said earlier that the Pats should run out the clock and play for OT) "What Tom Brady just did gives me goosebumps."
--Brady to Moss in the 2007 Season Opener when Moss seems to come out of nowhere to run past the Jets defenders to catch the ball for a TD near the goal line. I knew the season was going to be special from that moment on.

Defense
--Willie's tackle of James in 2003, as has been pointed out.
--Brewski's stripping the ball off of Dominic Rhodes in the 2004 Divisional game in the sleet in Foxboro and saying afterwards, "I guess I just wanted it more than he did."

Special Teams (tie)
--Adam's 45 yard rope into a blizzard that dropped like a rock a few feet past the upright and sent the Snow Bowl into OT. Greatest kick under pressure in the history of the NFL and maybe the greatest single play in the history of the League, IMHO (OK, Alan Ameche might have something to say about that...).
--Adam's 48 yarder to win SB XXXVI.

Just want to say "awesome thread." What a nice set of memories to read through on the last day of the decade. I don't usually get into the "Star Thing," but I gave it Five.

Thanks!

Re: Your favorite Patriots play of the decade - One on Offense, Defense, Special Team

Offense: JR Redmond on the 3rd down screen, jukes a Ram dead cold and stretched out of bounds to preserve the clock a few plays after Madden infamously said he would kneel and roll the dice in OT.

Close 2nd: David Patten becomes 1st player to pass, receive and rush for a TD in the SAME half.

Defense: Big Willie "miraculously" re-enters the game and the defense stops Edgerin at the goal-line on 4th down

Special Teams: punt on 3rd down down to Buffalo's own 1 in windy as hell buffalo game. Wind just takes it all the way, perfectly planned. Has anyone ever seen a punt on 3rd down before?

Re: Your favorite Patriots play of the decade - One on Offense, Defense, Special Team

2001 AFCCG Troy Brown's punt return.

I was there and that SHUT the crowd up.

2006 Troy Brown strip in SD.

For defense, my favorite play was last year, week 17, in Buffalo. Buffalo was driving as the half was ending. The defense started pushing and scuffling. Buffalo retaliated and the clock ran out with the Bills around the 10 yard line.

As soon as the half ended all the Pats players ran into the locker room while the Bills players were standing around.
