Re: Catching up with Branch:interesting audio

If flapping gums = success at receiving, that would be an all star team.

Houseyamama still has the great egocentric receiver quote of all time.

"They can't cover us, that's the reason they covered us the way they did". (paraphrase).

Imagine if we had dropped a fortune long term on "show me the money" Branch. He hasn't exactly set the world on fire since we parted, has he?

His and Branch's comments were so dumb and so argumentative you could almost swear they were intoximacated

BBs decision to send Branch packing backfired in 06. After that is was a masterstroke.

Are you sure? You could have had a masterstoke. I'm just sayin.

It wasn't BB's decision to send Branch packing. It was Branch's decision that he was more important to this team than guys like Brady and Seymour. It was Branch's decision to go back on his word and screw the Patriots.

BB had to send him packing because Branch made himself into a cancer.

Yep. BB did the trade. Branch shot his way out.

The decision did not "backfire", because the alternative was far worse.

WTF happened to Deion Branch.
he used to be humble when he first came to Patriots.
What a loser...he will not accept any personal responsibility.

Bunch of wannabee fake gangsters.

There is no way the Patriots should ever bring him back. What a ****y SOB

please never let him anywhere near the Patriots.

He refused to honor his contract. Not exactly a decision, but a pretty good bargain considering he was being extorted.

I think that he only pretended to be humble. We are seeing his true colors now and I am glad he is not on this team.

In the 06 off-season, BB/Pioli gambled/assumed that Branch would play out his contract or agree to terms on a new deal. The result was a miscalculation when Deion decided to hold the Pats hostage and shoot his way out of town. Because of this outcome, the team was left with a starting tandem of Doug Gabriel and Reche Caldwell. Sometimes playing hardball works out. Sometimes it doesn't.

His personnel strategy at it relates to Branch's set of circumstances backfired.

Did you really just call it a "gamble" expecting a person to honor their contract?

I wholeheartedly disagree, and if you think a better strategy is to focus on having a replacement on the roster for every single player in the last year of their contract, then I don't know what to tell you.

There was absolutely no problems with how they handled the situation, it was just a bad situation.

Branch put us in a tough spot and I think we made out good with getting a 1st rounder. Sure you can second-guess all day whether he'd have helped in the AFCC but he's not exactly the most reliable guy healthwise how do you know he would have even been there. Honestly looks like his body just broke down after '04 and we moved him just in time.

Re: Catching up with Branch:interesting audio

What an awful interview on the radio. Houshmandzadeh, Branch, and Burleson were all unprofessional, defensive and ****y about their 5-10 team. They shouldn't have aired their argument with Hugh Millen about arguing with Houshmandzadeh about how Millen said he can't beat man to man coverage, while Houshmandzadeh says he was double-teamed, and Branch telling everyone he's the only one on the team that has had success and won 2 super bowls. Imagine if that happened here... on WEEI or 98.5... if the Pats were having a sub-.500 team, Zolak was criticizing the team, and Moss and Welker going a radio show defending and arguing with Zolak that he doesn't understand the plays being called. What a joke.

They might have well called out their coaches and Hasselbeck while they were at it.

Depending on how communicative the other side is, yes. They were able to work something out w/ Asante in 07 and Seymour in 05 b/c they was communication. That wasn't the case with Branch and Chayut. Very acrimonious. Here is a nice summary of the whole situation.

Out pattern - The Boston Globe

Not what I said. They drafted Chad Jackson, brought in Caldwell and Gabriel in early Sept. to plug the fingers in the dyke but keep in mind they also lost Givens to TN. They went into camp w/o their two top targets from the previous year and were left with a bunch of 4th and 5th WRs. Not good. Thank god that they picked up Gaffney in Nov. BB got lucky that he worked out so well.

There was absolutely no problems with how they handled the situation, it was just a bad situation.

The contract, no. Branch was not worth the cash he wanted and getting a #1 for him was excellent. They were not proactive enough in addressing the talent level at the WR position. See Moss and Welker in 2007. That was proactive. They learned.
