Polian takes swipe at Pats...

Of course, the Fins haven't done it and the Patriots are tied with the '85 Bears as the only teams to win 18 games in one season.

49ers did it also.

Re: Polian takes swipe at pats..

I feel bad for the Colts. Why does they're owner butt in to the football aspect so much? (just like Jerry Jones). Bob Kraft just owns the team and lets BB do all the football parts of the business while he enjoys the ride.

Polian is the GM, not owner.

That's an incredibly defensive reaction on Polian's part. He must really be feeling the heat.

Re: Polian takes swipe at pats..

16-0 means absolutely nothing.
When you are an elite team, its all about the Lombardi Trophy and nothing else matters.

So the Patriots have only had 3 seasons worth ever being proud of?

Re: Polian takes swipe at pats..

If nothing else mattered, then they wouldn't keep records for things like, most consecutive regular season wins or Most wins in a decade.

It matters, just not in the greater scheme of things.

That being said, the Colts already had a bye coming up. There is no sense in resting your players in that situation. Especially when you have the chance to go 19-0.. A feat that hasn't been accomplished.

Why does consecutive regular season games matter? What's the significance of that? Really.

In baseball it matters for obvious reasons. Because there are no losses when that record is set. But in football, the record is meaningless if you lost a playoff game in the midst of setting the record.

I'm often puzzled as to why people get so caught up in things like most consecutive wins and and most wins of the decade? None of this stuff matters. The media will say what it wants to, facts be damned. And how do any of these "titles" affect us as fans in any way, other than bragging rights in a chat room or bar?
16-0 is only relevant in that is all but ensures home field throughout the playoffs. But if you already have home field at 14-0, it becomes all about staying healthy.

Geez, do they dare show up at Buffalo? Maybe they should just forfeit and let the rest of the team have a 2 wk. blow. Obviously 14-2 is good enough. Schobel must be licking his chops...

18-1 is a dominant season with an unlucky ending. Lucky teams account for a good number of super-bowl winners. Perfect seasons account for dominant teams.

I think 16-0 is awesome. It would be better with an SB win, but it still was an amazing, record-smashing season that will be talked about for years while most people would have a hard time naming every year's SB winner.

watch manning start because consective games streak is important but not 19-0:rolleyes:

I'm pretty sure, Disco, that you understand exactly what I'm saying!
Respects,

I think reasonable people can disaagree aobut the significance of winning streaks and undefeated seasons. But there's absolutely no reason to denigrate the achievement of a rival who did something that no other team has ever done. Polian's lack of graciousness is pretty appalling.

so pats 18-1 are not an undefeated team sure but polian's 23 wins excluding the playoffs is meaningful and actually 'consective' ?

The 2007 Pats are talked about more than the 2008 Steelers. Only a knowledgable sports fan can tell you the Bucs won the SB in 2002. I think 16-0 is a mystical achievement. It's up there with 714 home runs by Babe Ruth, or 61 home runs by Roger Maris, or 100 points by Wilt Chamberlain. It's awesome man....when the Colts took out their starters I was so happy. I can't imagine the frustration in Indy and their fans. They could have been called the greatest team of all time if they went 19-0. If they get lucky and win the SB this year, people will still gripe about how they could have been perfect.

16-0 is a historical achievement, whether bitter ass Polian admits to it or not. How significant that achievement is, that's a different story.

But this does reek of Polian having sour grapes that he couldn't stick it to the Pats with a perfect record for his Colts. **** him.

well..he is not gracious to their own fans according to colts blogs so...

Polian is a turd of a human being. I think we can all agree on that!

That pretty well sums it up.

I don't understand this thinking at all. None of this stuff matters? Super Bowls don't "matter" either. Championship titles don't affect us except for bragging rights in a bar. To the extent sports matter, something like 19-0 matters a lot. Some team wins a Super Bowl every year--theoretically, the team that wins the Super Bowl could suck.
