The New York-Boston hatred factor would make it tough for network to turn down.

No NBC would rather have Lord Farve, or tony romo, then a team that actually won more than 1 playoff game and championships..

IMO it would be a hard sell to the NYJ giving them a road playoff game (all be a short distance) on a short week after a Sunday night game where they were playing for their playoff life.

Besides, a Philly-Dallas game as the night game would be a nice way for NBC to wrap up NFL coverage. That would allow for Cincy vs Whomever to be the early game.

I would assume that whomever the NYJ play, it would be on Sunday. If they are playing Cincy, the Pats likely play at night on Saturday while the Dallas-Philly game goes to Fox on Sunday. GB vs Arizona would be the early game on NBC in this scenario.

That game will definitely be played on the 12th....

... of Never.

It can't happen.

Patriots-Jets is an impossibility in the first round.

Key words: "If the season ended today."

Season ends next week.

It can't happen.

If that is true, and I have no reason to believe it is not, I would assume the following schedule:

Saturday:
Green Bay vs Arizona early

Pats vs Whomever late

Sunday:
Cincy vs whomever early

Minnesotta/Philly vs Dallas late

The Pats can't play Saturday because I might not be able to watch the game

I'll have to call Mr. Goodell tonight and make sure he takes care of that

Please explain. Right now the seedings are #3 Pats, #4 Cinn, #5 Den and #6 NYJ. If Pats win (locking up #3) and Denver wins and Jets beat Cinn ( who would be #4, why would the seedings change? If Balt lost, it knocks them out of contention and it would appear then that the 3-6 matchup would be Pats-Jets......
-------------
If the Jets win and Denver wins and Pitt, Balt and Houston all lose, there will be only 2 of the 9-7 teams (Den and NYJ) and they will make the playoffs.

PatsFaninPhilly it might be easier for you to see the thread about "Patriots Wild Card Opponent Will Be.." The scenarios are all played out there very well.. Bottom line IF Jets win they are #5 seed and we are #3. That is why we cant play them round 1.

Seedings change for a number of reasons.

For one, the head-to-head tiebreaker comes into play between Den and Baltimore and Pitt (Den lost to both teams). I don't know why the link isn't accounting for this tiebreaker right now since it's the first one.

Secondly, after conference record comes common opponents (minimum of four common games). This comes before strength of victory. As of week 16, some of these teams only have three common games against one another, but Cincy-Jets and Balt-Oak creates four common games among four different teams, and the Jets come out ahead in those scenarios.

The Broncos have a problem. They really need Houston to win so that any tie with Balt and/or Pitt is a 3-way or 4-way tie that would eliminate the head-to-head tiebreaker. If Houston loses, then Den loses ALL tiebreakers to the Jets, Baltimore and Pittsburgh.

Oddly, though, Den is the only team that can make the playoffs with a loss.

I went through all the scenarios in my "Patriots wild card opponent will be" thread.

EDITED: there are scenarios in which multiple teams tie (4 or 6 AFC teams need to tie) in which the Patriots host the Jets, but I refuse to consider ties.

It seems worthwhile to mention the common opponents tiebreaker. For the Jets and the Broncos (and the Ravens, after next week), the common opponents are the Raiders, the Patriots, the Bengals and the Colts.

Assuming the Jets and Broncos win next week, their records against common opponents will be 4-1 and 3-2 respectively.

Even if the Ravens win next week, they're 1-4 against the same opponents, so they're out, right? Wrong!

If the Jets, Ravens and Broncos all win, the Jets get the number 5 seed based on common opponents.

The Ravens and Broncos are then tied for the 6th seed at 9-7, but it's a two-way tie. The number one tiebreaker for a two-way tie is head-to-head, and the Ravens beat the Broncos in their only meeting of the season, in week 8, so they're in.

JMHO. YMMV. :)

Thanks Brono, you have the stats to back it up!

You've become a real seed-master, eh U?

I'm possessed.

I refuse to go into variable strength of victory scenarios and tie-game scenarios as some have, so it's good to know I'm not the most insane person on this board.

It's really interesting, I dn't remember a season with this many bunched up teams going into week 17.

Also, it's MUCH more relaxing than it was last year, praying for other teams to lose so the Pats could back in.

So true, and ironic that last year we couldn't even get in at 11-5, yet both AFC WCs this year will be 9-7 at best.

Also a helpless feeling last year, 11-5?? And the NFL didn't exactly schedule the games in a way that would get the Jets to care about the Miami game.

Whoever the Pats play, I hope it's a sunday game. I know for a fact I have to work wild card saturday so I would have to tape the game and watch it when I get home. Not a easy thing to do when there is a TV in the building...:)

Fear not Pats fans... Here is what looks like is going to happen... Since Lord Farve has choked in dec once again, and if Philly beats dalllas, and Minn wins.. the playoffs will be on sat

Jets vs bengals

Cowboys vs Vikings..- for the lord farve and prince romo match up...

We will have sun

Ravens vs Pats

GB vs Zona
