Re: Bodden: This is exactly why I came here.

Our best cornerback since Clayborn and Law IMHO. Sign him. I think he's more complete than Samuel.

Asante's playmaking makes him better than Bodden. It's not even close. Asante is top 3 in the league IMO.

I think the world of Asante, but a qb like Brady or Manning can expose him. He can be beat for big plays since he tends to go for double moves and jumps routes looking for the big play. I too think hes a top 3 or 4 corner.

I think Bodden was looking at breaking the bank next year after a rehab year at the Pats....but....I also think he recognizes a good thing and will stick around if the Pats offer him a "fair" deal....not a bank breaking deal....but not an embarrising deal either.

If the Pats step up with a decent offer....he will stick around.

I think the pats offered between 6 and 7 million a year, do you think he would take that now?

Wasnt it like 4 million a year? I dont think they offered him that much.

I don't think Bodden is lacking in that category. He's much more physical.

Don't really care, as I always liked Asante.

Yep your right it was a four year $16 mill offer. I still remember something about 6 million, could it have been a signing bonous? don't know it doesn't matter. I think an offer of $6 million a year now wouldn't be an insult. I don't think hes worth $9-10 mill per.

I haven't seen him do much this year. He gives up short stuff and doesn't or can't look back to break up balls. 7M? Are you high? That's why they draft young guys...they pay them 1/10 of that.

Yeah no way Id pay him 9-10 million, 6 million a year sounds fair to both sides. I wouldnt go past 7..

It'll be interesting to see if they'll sign him long term.

I don't know if they'll want to go much past 4 yrs/20 mill, and if he turned down 4 yrs/16, they may end up being too far off.

I think if I had to give him an offer it wouldn't be any more than 4 yrs/22 mill, which is 5.5 per/yr. Of course my opinion means nothing, but I am simply putting my guestimate value on him.

I don't know if he's worth 6 1/2 to 7 million, considering how they generally have felt about CB's. Who knows what the front office values for each player, as we can only speculate and guess.

Well to this point Bodden has 54 tackles and 5 int's. In 07 a samual had 44 tackles and 6 int's total for the year and turned that into a 9-10 mill a year contract, so 6 to 7 million for Bodden doesn't seem out of order.

Re: Bodden: This is exactly why I came here.

Maurice Hurst was also outstanding. A neck injury cut his career short. I'd put him in front of Asante too.

Love Bodden. If the Pats make him a fair offer and he genuinely loves it here, maybe they can figure out a long-term deal.

The early 90's was my dead zone for watching the Pats. I'd just moved to Texas and game watching options were limited, plus they weren't exactly likely to be the game of the week back then, so I'll take your word on that.

The did beat the Oilers, in one of the rare TV games, so I got bragging rights with my neighbor.:D

Asante is a play-maker, but he's not a "shut-down" corner. He's much better on one-side than the other, and can't play close to the LOS. Those are significan't limitations.

Plus the 'playmaking' has it's downsides when the corner bites on the wrong route. Asante's gotten toasted plenty times doing that. Not to mention his failures on the final drive of sb42. If you're a corner worth $9 mill a year you make that pick, or you don't blow a coverage on a key 3rd down. Bodden is more consistent IMO, doesn't make as many plays but doesn't hurt us as much.
