I haven’t seen any congrats to Mike Wright and his play during Wilfork’s absence. We just held the Leagues number 4 rusher to 63 yards on 18 carries (3.5 YPC). Coming into the game he averaged 89 yards per game (which includes two games where he was eliminated by the score and had 18 carries total in both games) and had 1246 yards for a 4.5 YPC. And before someone brings up the score to yesterday’s game, Garrard had only 25 pass attempts. In the two games mentioned above where MJD was held to 18 carries (6 in one and 12 in the other) Garrard had 68 pass attempts (37 and 31).

Not to mention his effort last week against Buffalo without Warren as well. Mike Wright is without a doubt our unsung hero on Defense.

So here is to Mike Wright :eat3:

I agree, I think the guy is so underated!!!
He is way better than keff green in my opinion, and should get more snaps

Since he got here whenever he makes a play or I notice someting he did I yell out thats right (Wright)....This year I have been saying that more and more. I really liked him the last few years as he is a charlie hustle kind of guy and it is always fun to watch those guys overacheive. Well he continues to get better and better and we have a really good player there.

Indeed. I love Big Vince, but no way are they going to break the bank for a pure run stuffer when Wright and Pryor give them solid play against the run and more of a pass rush for a fraction of the cost.

Last week BB went out of his way to acknowledge his strong play of late in his press conference on Monday. I think he even got a game ball last week.

Mike Wright is on a new team next year I think as his contract is up and we have Wilfork,Green and Gostkowski contracts to deal with :(

Wright does deserve a starting job somewhere...as long as it is not in this division.

Yeah I was about to say the same thing also I think something needs said for Kyle Arrington's play on special teams he has been excellent since being signed off the practice squad..

Nope.....:)
3/14/2009: Signed a four-year, $7.5 million contract. The deal included a $1.8 million signing bonus.
Another $2.5 million is available through incentives.

2010: $1.2 million
2011: $1.24 million, 2012: $1.28 million
2013: Free Agent

Great thread. I agree that Wright deserves lots of praise, and also find it interesting that Wright/Pryor + potential draft pick may not equal Big Vince staying around.

I think odds are that VW will stay, but Wright and the emergance of a decent rookie showing by Pryor has made it more of a debate than many think.

I think Pryor has to be the biggest surprise of the year. I think you could swap Pryor's production with Brace's expectation. Hopefully Brace can figure it out, I remember Big Vince had similar issues with getting blown off the ball by double teams his rookie season too. Smerlas showed how he corrected it, either late in his rookie season or early to midway through his 2nd season (forgive my memory), on NE Tailgate, basically Vince lined up farther off the ball, giving him more momentum and leverage, to withstand the double team.

I think Pryor's success is mostly due to how fast he is off the snap. It almost looks like he is offsides sometimes, which allows him to penetrate and engage the double team, ultimately resetting the LOS. I remember his first preseason game and not really paying attention to who was in the game on the DL and asking my brother who the hell was that, he just jumped offsides, but yet no flag. Then I rewound it and realized that he was just that fast off the ball and saw that it was Pryor. He is quick!

i don't understand in the base 3-4 why they just don't use warren, wilfork and wright... the 3w's

Even if his contract had expired after this season, he would have been an RFA, since he joined the league in 2005.

I hope they sign up Kyle Arrington to long term extension. This kid knows how to tackle and be at the right place at the right time. I wonder if he can play safety on defense ??

In Wilfork and Warren absence, it appears as if the front seven are shooting the gaps and putting more pressure on the opposing QB and tackling RB behind the line of scrimage. It almost appears as if they've become less predictable.

I suspect Wright of being a guy who'd be worn down and pretty mediocre consistently getting a starter's reps.

I.e., he's thisclose to being a fine NFL starter, which even though he falls short still makes him a heckuva football player.

Wright's so good, they should name a chicken farm after the guy.

They did...

But if he was really good they'd make it an all-you-can eat place.
