This is the first time anyone in the New York media has come right out and called the magic helmet win a "fluke."

Of course, we've known it all along but the Colts' wussing out yesterday makes what the Pats accomplished in 2007 all the more remarkable. As time goes by, NFL History will write that Pats season for what it was, one of the greatest of all time, if not the greatest of all time.

"Pitiful loss to Carolina Panthers shows New York Giants' Super Bowl run in 2007 was a fluke"

Pitiful loss to Carolina Panthers shows New York Giants' Super Bowl run in 2007 was a fluke

WOW, first the Colts are getting ripped for laying down and now the Giants are getting called out. What a glorious morning. :D

I would say the Bears 1985 season is still the most dominant in history.

Hard to believe those meatheads couldn't put together another season.

Maybe so, but that's the kind of debate the Pats' season belongs in.

It took the NY Media two years what the rest of the country figured out a while back. The Giants came out of nowhere to win the Super Bowl in 2007 and were one and done in 2008 and will be lucky to make the playoffs this year. They were just a good, not great team that caught lightning in the bottle in the playoffs in that season and had a few lucky breaks.

That flukey catch along with two dropped easy INTs by the Pats were the difference from making Eli being shipped out of NY after this season to a $100 million man who is uncutable by the Giants. Ok, I am being a bit harsh. He hasn't been horrible this year, just wildly inconsistent.

Who said Christmas ended on the 25th? ;) We got some late gifts with a division title, Colts loss, and now NYG ripped up @ home :D

At least NE won their stadium finale game ;)

Yeah, that was pretty enjoyable last night.

What's next? The Colts game being overturned after further review making us 11-4 :D

Even more good news to brighten your morning, the Giants were eliminated from the Playoffs this year by Dallas' win last night! So, Christmas just keeps on giving!

No, you're not being harsh. Gary Myers and others in the New York press saw through Eli some time ago. He's a solid starter, but not worth the cap money that the Giants have tied up in him for the next four or five seasons, which will hurt their ability to rebuild an aging Defense. Oh Happy Day!

Manning's hostile body language towards Caldwell was even better. Nothing like a little locker room dissension to start the last week of the Regular Season!

Yeah, in other news water is wet.

What a great weekend. :)

I remarked in the late game thread yesterday that it felt like one of those Godfather montages in which all the family's enemies get it in the neck one-by-one. Fisher, dead. Colts streak, dead. Manning face, alive and looking older than ever. Giants, dead. Del Rio, dead. Phins, dead. On and on.

He was wildly inconsistent that year too, but for the SB, he had all the luck the football gods could give him. He should have been int'ed twice, He should have been sacked on that final drive, Tyree should not have made that catch, but Manning wasn't and Tyree did and it's still the most painful loss I've witness since the 1986 World Series.

Not to go off topic too much, but everytime I see "that catch", I see all those defenders near Harrison...lord, if one of them could of given Harrison some help.

Winning a SB this year would help cure me of that thought! :singing:

Ian is God and I do respect his judgment 99.99% of the time here and do appreciate all he does for the Board and the grief he takes for doing it.

:youtheman:

BUT, I do think that a thread on the Patriots SB loss to the Giants and the changing perception of it in a usually hostile national media arguably (politely arguably, of course) belongs in the main forum.

However, our's is not to wonder why, our's is but to do or be moved to another forum. :)

Couldn't have said it better. The Manning face comment made me :D

This was a good step in acknowledging the improbable nature of the Giants SB win.

This give me hope that, sometime in the future, the media will question the impact of the Specter sideshow and the false Rams Walk through taping story.

Both of these distractions were avoidable. If Goodell bothered to read his mail, he could have dealt with Specter much earlier. And if the media (not just Tomase, because other outlets were ready to run with the story) bothered to fact check the walk through story, they'd realize they only had an unverified rumor.

Instead, the Patriots organization had to respond to both of these stories instead of focusing solely on the game. History has shown that teams involved in a negative story on the eve of the Super Bowl (The Bengals and Stanley Wilson, the Falcons and Eugene Robinson, the Raiders and their center who flaked out) do not fare well.

In a game that turned on so many small things, I can't help but wonder what would have happened if the Patriots only had to worry about the Giants.

My sentiments exactly. My two least favorite squads. Being exposed for what they really are. :D
