Minus the 2007 Season this has been Brady's most productive season since joining the NFL. Not bad for someone getting older. ;)

Productivity, IMO, is measured by wins. At 11-5 (or 10-6), I would certainly NOT put this as his 2nd best season. He did, for the most part, have a very solid year though. Played a couple "meh" games, but overall, he was good.

Brady cannot win a game by himself, to measure the success of a QB by wins alone is extremely short-sighted. Brady's productivity has been the 2nd best of his career, and with the 2003 defense this team would probably also have 14+ wins. Productivity for a single player is most certainly not measured by team wins.

With the 2003 defense this team might be 16-0. I think people over-estimate how good the pre-moss/welker offenses were because the overall team was so much better.

And before I get comments from either side, not saying the D is that bad this year, just that 2003 was special.

I wouldn't say this was his second best season even if the stats say so. Stats in football are deceiving especially since Brady had monster numbers against the Titans. Brady had a very up and down season this year.

I would say he was better in 2004, 2005, and 2006 than he was this year despite what the numbers say. I would say that 2006 was an MVP type of year for Brady considering the talent around him.

Brady's struggles this year are for a number of reasons including rust, a new OC, injuries, etc. But despite the the overall numbers, Brady was inconsistent this season and made some uncharacteristically bad decisions at times.

C'mon .... I specifically stated that it was statistically his 2nd best year.

I am just pointing out statistics can be misleading. Overall, I have been disapointed in Brady's play this season. Again, I am not putting all the blame on him, but he has done a lot of things uncharacteristic for him like making poor decisions and over relying on Welker and Moss without even looking at other players like Faulk and Watson.

I guess expectations should have been tempered because he was coming back from injuries and has missed a year, but I figured problems would be early in the season not later like the games vs. New Orleans and the second Miami game.

I agree that Brady hasn't been consistently at his best, but the main point to note is that the passing offense as a whole has produced better than any other year aside from 2007. Whether Brady has personally played at 80% of his 2004 self or whatever, the offense as a whole is better.

This offense in 2009 has played better than any other Brady-led offense aside from 2009. And don't forget we have played a lot of tough passing teams, which might skew your views on Brady a bit. Just check out the great Brady/Manning comparison thread with the details.

I just really care about the COMP % and the INT's both are very good and better or on par with previous seasons

I'm sorry; I just read in another thread on this board that Brady was on the downside of his career.

:D

I'm glad that Brady's statistically doing well. But my eyes tell me that he's had a lot of off games and a lot of off throws to go along with the great games like yesterday.

I dont know if you were using this comment to hate on the defense, but clearly they arent the cause for our record only being 10-5. Currently they are 4th in the league in points per game (16.7) and 9th in yards per game (312.3). In 2003 they were 1st in points per game (14.9) and 7th in yards per game (291.6). By no means am I saying that the 09 defense can be compared to the 03 defense, but stats wise they arent that far off. An average of only 1.8 points difference and 12.8 yards per game is not going to turn 5 losses into wins.

I think people have a tendancy to romanticize their recollection of the past. Brady always had his share of clunkers (as does Manning) despite playing at a consistently high level. And he almost always battled things like injuries and inconsistent effort or lack of sufficient talent within his surrounding cast. I also think people subconsciously struggle to seperate 2007 from the comparison where Tom is concerned.

I agree that Brady has always had a clunker or two during the season. I think his first four years, he would have one 4 INT game a season. The difference between this year is that he is making the wrong plays in places where in the past he has made great plays in the past. This isn't happening all the time, but it has happened far more often than any season I can remember.

I look at 2006 and his numbers were not great by his standards. His completion percentage sucked for his standard. But I also look how he made chicken salad out of crap for WRs. Except in the AFC Championship game, he still made most of the key plays even with Reche Caldwell, a way past his prime Troy Brown, and Doug Gabriel as his receivers.

I look at this year and many of his passes are off, he is forcing the ball to Moss too much at the wrong time, he isn't checking off receivers, and he isn't making the plays in the clutch especially in the second half of games. Not all his fault, but then again those don't show up in the stats.

We are talking about a guy coming of a potential career ending injury after missing an entire season with a banged up line and a rookie signal caller. Brady deserves some of the blame for his poor performance at times, but he also deserves the benefit of the doubt at others considering what he is overcoming.

I don't look at the past with rose color glasses. I remember the Denver game in the 2001 season where Brady almost single handily gave away that game after the Pats pretty much had it locked up. I remember the Bills game in 2003 where Brady threw a pass right a fat DT who ran the ball back 30 yards for a TD. I remember all the three and outs that season. I remember the miserable second half Brady had against San Deigo in the regular season of 2005. I remember his mediocre game against San Deigo in the playoffs in the 2006 season which he did bail it out late in the game. I recognize that Brady had clunkers over the years.

Well, it's hard to measure QB's stats to. A lot goes into them. Brady didn't have Moss or Welker in those early years either and having them certainly skews them to his favor. Stats......... be they team or individual, are always limited in what they can show.

C'mon .... I specifically stated that it was statistically his 2nd best year.

Okay, Can't disagree............ as for 2nd best season....... Nope, I won't agree.

That's nuts. I guess if he was playing defense as well then you could make that arguement.

Thats surprising coming from a colts fan

Stats are what they are. I'm not trying to interpret them to say Brady is playing his best this year. I just pointed out that his production has been the 2nd best of his career. So Brady playing how he is this year with the current weapons makes a better offense than Brady playing how he played in 05/06 etc... with far less talented options. We all expected the bumps with Brady coming off that devastating injury, but overall this offense is still playing very well.

Looking at stats for the year is fun, but it means very little going into the playoffs. I'm glad I'm not a Vikings or Saints fan right now.

The D (and possibly the O, too) is the best in the leage RIGHT NOW without Wilfork for the last 2, and that matters most to me going into the playoffs. For instance, I could care less how good the Broncos were in September. That does them no good right now.

Woah woah woah, best in the league??? There is no way that our offense and defense is the best in the league right now. Our offense looked awful the past 2 weeks until yesterday and our defense is good but not even close to the best defense in the league. SD is the best team in the league right now. Our team is making significant strides and is definitely a solid playoff team but not the best in the league. Lets not get too far ahead of ourselves.
